Grand Californian Villas to be announced 9/18!

Woohoo!!! DH and I will be staying at the Grand Californian Sept. 16th through the 19th. We'll keep our eyes and ears open for any news. How exciting!!!!!!! It will surley be a magical day if they annouce it.

So the GCV announcement will include the projected opening, size and any added amenities right? I know we'll have to wait for sale date, price and points.

Is it Tuesday yet?

As was originally posted by SocalKdg & Mtnman44, AL Lutz at MiceAge is reporting that on Tuesday September 18th Disney Vacation Club will be making an official announcement that work has started on Disney's first Vacation Club property in California at Disney's Grand Californian Hotel. MiceAge has proven to be a very reliable source in the past.

Well No desire to buy on my part as LA and Orange County are places I can only stand visiting every 3-5 years, but it will be nice on those trips to be able to use my points. And if I ever move back to the Pacific Northwest, I'll probably go a little more often.

Great, I knew it was going to come at a time where I didn't have a lot of extra cashflow and I don't want to finance anymore! Oh well, I guess I'll just deal with the 7 month window. We probably won't be going out to Cali more than every few years anyway so it wouldn't necessarily be prudent for us to add on there.

Oh I am not concerned about the building itself. What concerns us it wont have the spread out resort feel like the DVC resorts in WDW have.

I understand your concern. You will be surrounded by a Theme park on 2 sides, a pool on the other, and the Entrance of the hotel on the 4th side. However, I don't know if you have been to the GCH before, there are alot of courtyards, and wonderful lanscaping that hide the fact that the property is relatively small. Some people like alot of activity outside their room, I think this is some of the allure of BWV.

I think this is exactly what turned my family onto GCV. We own at BWV because of its proximity to lots of stuff to do. At GCV you get even more!

Have you been to DLR? We're DLR AP and love the "coziness" of the resort.
The 3 existing Disney hotels are close to each other and have 3 different vibes. My feeling is that it will be more like BWV/BCV feel than SSR/OKW.
So when you say "spread out resort feel" are thinking SSR/OKW? DLR is VERY different than WDW.

GCH entrance from DTD is in a semi- hidden hallway, if you don't where it is, you will walk right by it. There is a special event courtyard and their convention center right next to DTD. The "supposed" DVC will be across the lobby area where the valet parking used to be plus some, next to CA with views of Paradise Pier. You can enter CA from the back hallway near the pool. So there's lots of activity close by. You could say it's like a "monorail resort"(monorail goes by/through GCH) and an "Epcot" resort (close proximity to DL and CA)

Should this come to pass, I might have to add on but in smaller contracts.
We only live 30 minutes from the park.

Yes I have been to DLR 4 times now. I have never stayed onsite however. I have been to all three hotels and we are staying at GC in a couple of months. We love DLR for the park experience but love WDW for the resort experience. You described it perfectly. We are staying at OKW on rented points and touring SSR. We have it narrowed down to those two. WE love POR and love having a resort like SSR/OKW so we can stroll around. There is a resort for everyone. Those just happen to be our needs.

Where exactly will they build the DVC? Please don't be smart and say the GC.

Thanks.

Stupid question but we will be able to use our VB points in California, correct? At 7 month window? This might be my way to get DH to the West Coast!

If it's A DVC resort you will be able to. I'll use mine to go at the 7 month.

And should you pick SSR, let me be the first to say, "Welcome Home, Neighbor". A little OT, we love the SSR paths, and coming from a family that runs marathons, take morning walks and bicycle everywhere, it fit our family. When we go to WDW, we like the spread out feeling also.

I hope it's true... That's my wife's birthday, and it will make a great gift! :smokin:

MG

It's also my DH's birthday, and I was thinking the same thing! Of course, it's probably more of a gift for me ;)

So can someone point out on the map where this will be built?

The only open space I see is SW of the pool.

You are correct on where it's being built. SW of the pool you'll see a grassy area, and west of that is a parking lot. As of now, the grassy area and parking lot are gone, having been cleared, grated, and leveled to begin construction of the DVC addition.

Someone posted some recent pictures of the site. I'll see if I can find them and post them here for you.
