Grand Californian Super Thread

My former employer did weeklong training, and one year they choose a vendor who utilized the GCH. Honestly… it felt no different than going into the office everyday.

The food will vary based upon the package the host purchases, but don’t expect the quality, selection and presentation you would as a GCH guest.

For example, we received a continental breakfast. It was always fruit, yogurt, donuts, etc. The donuts weren’t something you’d find in the hotel or parks, so I suspect they had alternate catering for conferences. We then received a hot snack - sliders, tenders, etc. in the final hour, we’d receive a sweet - usually cookies, and again, not the type you’d find outside the hotel.

Most years the conferences were in Las Vegas and the food was amazing…

Stopped by the parks to check out the 70th merchandise that was released today. We went into the GCH the lobby didn't look as dark as it has the past few weeks. Maybe it was the time of day (5 pm).

I also checked out the new entrance into DCA. They have three security checks and four gates.

Scott Gustin is reporting that the Pixar Place entrance into DCA is going to be closed through mid-June while they install new entrance gates.

Has anyone here attended a professional conference at the Grand Californian Hotel?

I have the opportunity to attend a 3-day conference here in June (yahoo!), and I'm completely unfamiliar with the business side of the hotel. It looks like they have a SECOND registration desk nearby the conference side, and a 24 hour business center. Is that right? Does anyone have pictures of those? This will be fun to explore a whole new side of the hotel, and of course the yummy conference food!
I took these photos yesterday to give you an idea of where the conference center is located. If you have stayed at the hotel before, I'm sure you have walked past it several times without realizing it was there.

This was taken as I walked into the hotel from DTD.

This is leaving the hotel and walking towards the DTD exit.

These look great but it's a bummer about the Pixar Place entrance. I was planning to use those if we end up at DLH.

Staying at the GC next month for the first time in forever. So excited. Can someone tell me what toiletries they have in the rooms? Not staying DVC. Just a regular 2 queen room. I can't find the information on the DL website. Thanks!

Shampoo, conditioner and body wash in pump bottles within the shower, bar soap and small bottle of hand lotion. Same thing a $99 room at WDW’s All Star Resorts gets you, sadly.

(All toiletries are the former H20 stuff they’ve been giving out for years).

Ok thank you. I have seen videos where they have more in the room like toothbrushes and other things but that may have just been in there for the youtubers sake.

I've only been in the DVC rooms for the past couple years, but they do include a few extra things like Qtips. cotton rounds and a shower cap. I feel like there might have been something else, but it wasn't a toothbrush. It might be mint lotion for feet. The DVC rooms at the Disneyland Hotel just have the basics mentioned above.

There were spa sandals in my room last November. Cheap disposable sandals, but surprisingly comfy.

I’ve heard of people getting toothbrush and mouthwash at GCH, as well as the Grand Floridian in WDW. Seems more like a hit-or-miss thing, but mostly miss. Maybe if you call the front desk they’ll have some available?

They use to provide more spa amenities in the room but no longer do so.

I asked housekeeping where I could get a toothbrush once when I found I'd forgotten to bring one and saw the cart near my room. They just gave me one, which was nice!

I've gotten various things in the room at various times. For some reason, I always get a shoe mitt :D. I can't imagine that many people need a shoe mitt? Do you often buff your shoes at DLR? I actually really like the hair care products though I liked them a lot better when they came in bottles and not dispensers anchored to the shower wall. I also prefer bar soap to the liquid kind they provide in the dispenser so I'm glad they give you a bar, even if it is small. There's a shower cap with a hair tie and I've gotten a comb as well but I'm not sure if they still have those. When I was there, in December, there were 2 little bottles of lavendar soothing oil left for us on the nightstand. We didn't get that last month.

I've usually gotten the spa slippers.

We're booked at the Grand the beginning of July. What kind of construction should we expect?
Curious about this, too! I saw some reviews where room balconies were blocked off and there was scaffolding all over the place. Does anyone know what section of the hotel is being worked on right now? Is it the standard rooms, or only DVC?
