Grad Night 2008 Thread

Grad nights could affect hours of operation & also Magic Mornings. This thread is posted so upcoming travelers can quickly determine how Grad nights might affect their schedule.

Edit on 6/3/08. Updates (taken from info in posts below):

- S.S. Columbia has posted the dates & the DLR link which lists the hours of operations for DL on those dates.

- Thursday 6/12 MM has been moved to Wed. 6/11. There will NOT be MM/EE on Thursday 6/12. There WILL be MM on Wed. 6/11.

- There will apparently be no other affect to MM (due to Grad nights). MM will continue to be (for those who have MM privledges) Sun/Tues/Thurs & Sat (except for the one instance mentioned above).



All additional comments & tips are welcomed.

Interesting that on Thurs, June 5th, there is no "Remember Dreams Come True" Fireworks. But on Wed. 11th, Thurs. 12th, & Thurs 19th, the wonderful Fireworks Display in DL will be at 8:45pm (instead of the traditional Summer time of 9:25pm).

These days might be good days for families & visitors with todlers to enjoy the RDCT Fireworks at an earlier time.

So does anyone know how MM will be affected on 6/5, 6/12 & 6/19?

Just did DL on Thursday 05/29 and it too was a Grad Night. The park closed at 9 PM. Exiting the park and attempting to get through Downtown Disney is a bit of a pain. All of the Seniors are making their way to DCA where they wait for DL to clear out and get transferred over to DL. The security process for this is extremely rigorous for them. As a result they block off most of the open areas between DL and DCA and this creates a jam of people attempting to leave DL and head into Downtown Disney or to the shuttle areas. Just something to keep in mind as you exit on a “Grad Night”

We've had a poster indicate that Wednesday June 11th will replace Thursday June 12th for Magic Morning (formerly known as EE).

Are there any other days where MM is changed due to Grad nights?

We are staying at DL June 18-21. We just received our documents this week and enclosed is a calendar for June and July. The hours for June 19th show the park hours at DL are 8 a.m. - 9 p.m. However, it also has an asterisk on that day and the legend says that it stands for MM. I thought that if there is a Grad Nite they do not have a MM that day. I can understand no MM a day following a Grad Nite since it would take so long to get the park ready, but seems that opening an hour early the morning of a Grad Nite would help guests feel that they are getting more out of their day. Anyone know if this calendar I have is accurate?

We are there Grad Nights as you know are the 11th and 12th. What a cm told me was that MM will be tuesday the 10th and Wed. the 11th.

We now have confirmation from 4 posters (i think) who've checked with DLR & have confirmed that Magic Morning for Thurs. 6/12 will be moved to Wed. 6/11.

(& good info from SFBayDon on avoiding DTD if possible at 9pm on Grad nights....good to know if you have toddlers &/or are staying on Harbor Blvd. It might just be best to call it an early night on Grad nights.)


Question to all......would DL be MORE busy say between 7pm & 9pm because Grads are moving into the park? Would the Fireworks be harder to enjoy?

Or would they keep the Grads out of the park until the park is cleared?

(But what about "Grads" with APs?)

I am heartbroken that the June 12th MM is being moved to the 11th...

That's the last MM before the major summer crowds hit...

The 6/5 and 6/19 Magic Morning's should be fine, barring any other circumstances.

The reason that the Magic Morning for 6/12 has been moved to 6/11, as mentioned earlier, is that there is a Grad Nite on 6/11, and there's just simply not enough time to clean the park in order to facilitate early entry. It's just easier to have Early Entry on that day of the first Grad Nite since there's nothing going on the night before.

The Grads are held at DCA and should not be a factor for the regular guests. Some may have AP's, but this should not impact the park.

Keep in mind to check the schedule for fireworks. On my visit on a Gred night day there were no fireworks or Fantasmic shows scheduled.

For the most part, Blast Off events are over at DCA. However, there is another Blast Off event at the ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney, and some Grads do come from over there.

I've got this mental picture of several thousand 18 year old kids in "holding pens" at DCA.

I wonder where those "holding pens" are???

Sorry to cause any confusion. Yes the Blast off events were at DCA and with the main courtyard between DCA and Disneyland roped off for crowd control this was my main point. Also hearing about the blast off event at ESPN Zone would help explain some of the additional traffic. Sorry for any confusion

We were staying at the HOJO with a park view on 5/29. The room was actually vibrating from the bass of the music that they blasted ALL NIGHT LONG. I think I woke up around 3am from the instructions blaring over the loud speaker. Not the best night to have a park view.

Question on how Grad night affects the "riding Nemo" strategy.

When would someone be able "line up before closing" on a grad night?

8:55pm? Earlier than that? Is it worth doing?

What if the Fireworks are at 8:45pm & DL closes at 9pm?
