Here is a thought , when you are not working maybe you can find a bakerie who would be willing to let you come in and volunteer and gain some experience that way.

See, I don't really have that as my goal. I just want to bake and decorate cakes and get better at what I'm already doing. If that happens, fantastic, but it's not my goal. My goal is just to be happy with what I'm doing.

Well your goal may not be a chef, but it is just a way to say that is an awesome way to gain experience. You can have all the degrees or alot of schooling, but the best way is by working with someone to give you the experience.

I've actually tried that. The bakeries near me don't have anything like that. One specifically said that they can't have people volunteering in the kitchen without them being employees because of insurance.

How about someone who does some catering? Try getting to know one owner of a bakerie and ask them how to get a job to gain the experience.

I am tossing some ideas at you, to think about. I dont know what you may have to offer some one. But maybe you can find someone for a barter and trade in the industry. Maybe you could clean for them and they can teach you some of the trade and how to do it.

I have absolutely no idea how to find anything like that. The only people I know who work in catering are on the server aspect, not the actual cooking aspect.

I looked under your p/t craigslist and there is a position for a bakery clerk. That would be a way to get your foot in the door.

Humbolt park - bakery sales clerk 29 hours a week . Under p/t I typed in bakery and it brought up all the ones that are highering.

sometimes there will be ways to do things without you going into debt.

I have no intention of going into debt to go to school.

I'll look at it, but I'm not really fond of the idea of having to go to Humboldt Park every day. It's not a good neighborhood. I applied for the other one, as well as one further down on the list.

Are there any forums for bakery things? If so you maybe can get to know someone in your area.

The two best ones I've found are the Wilton forums (not helpful) and Cake Central, which is mostly for people who are pros with their own businesses.

A good pie or pasty requires no adorning with a sauce.
Only crap ones.

That is why Australian cakes don't have icing, and pastas doen't have sauce right?

I've put in a lot of applications, but the interview was at Target. I also put in at a couple of bakeries yesterday.

That sucks, why wouldn't Target Hire you unless they filled the spot already. Perhaps you should work as a prep cook for a while to get that kitchen experience.

I didnt see you post, Well where are you in helping push it over?:lmao: By the way what settings did you change?

I tried, a little.

I'm not sure I did anything in the setting that I hadn't. But I did make my computer go offline and changed the setting through the Control Panel instead of while in IE. That is when things worked.

I'm having a big problem with FB, it won't remember me or my password. I've had to reset my FB password each time I try to log in. On other sites I've had to set up new accounts because I don't know the passwords, and then I have to rebuild my preferences.

The bakeries I've looked at want baking experience, not cooking experience. Besides, every position I've looked at for prep cook has requirements that I don't meet.
