Gourmet Pantry closing.

Oh joy. We always picked up a few grocery items there since we normally go to DD on our first night. And I pick up something to eat before I take our son to McD's. Oh well, McD's has good salads now at least.

Thanks for the link.

:( Yea, I heard this from Diznews site. Well, that will just about eliminate the last disney run food service in the marketplace . Ghiiradelli's replaced the ice cream store named after disney c haracters, Rain Forest pushed Chef mickeys out of the marketplace, The Empress Lily was knocked out of the box by Fultons crab house. Wolfgang Pucks replaced a disney run eatery, I think it had Minnies name on it, can't remmember the exact name. Oops, my error, Captain Jacks is still there. Will that be the next to go?

Puck's replaces Minnie Mia's Italian Eatery, one of my favorite places to eat in the Marketplace.

:( Sorry to see it go. I just wonder if they really need an 8000 sq ft sandwich shop that seats 220? They could have subleased half of it.

As someone asked over on the Restaurant board post, when exactly is the Gourmet Pantry closing?

It's one of those weird things; while the vast majority of visitors won't really miss the Pantry, lunch here somehow became traditional for our family. This is one of only a few shops left which can trace it's roots back to the Walt Disney World Village of two decades ago. It will be missed, and I'd only hope it's still there in 30 days...

Every trip, I'd spend between $10-$20 on chocolates from the GP. I loved getting the Mickey pretzels, those macadamia nut turtles and truffles. While both the wallet and thighs would probably be better if that candy counter didn't exist, I will miss them.

Minnie Mia's Pizzaria. Ahh Nostalgia. And it wasn't even that long ago.:( Slightly off topic, but while searching for info, came across this excerpt of a review from an old 90' WDW guidebook. Remember these places:

MK: Penny Arcade, Main Street Cinema (ok - it's still there but not a full store front as it used to be), The Walt Disney Story, Magic Journeys, Skyway to Tomorrowland, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Skyway to Fantasyland, Mission to Mars, Circlevision 360 "American Journeys" and Dreamflight.

Epcot: Listen to the Land (now Living with the Land), Symbiosis, Kitchen Kabaret, Journey Into Imagination (now Journey Into Your Imagination), Captain E-O, World of Motion, Horizons, Universe of Energy (now Ellen's Energy Adventure), and Communicores East and West.

MGM: Superstar Television, Monster Sound Show.

At the Disney Village Marketplace, it's easier to list which stores are still there: Gourmet Pantry, Cristal Arts (now part of Eurospain) and Team Mickey's Athletic Club.

In Pleasure Island: Baton Rouge Lounge, Neon Armadillo, XZFR Rockin' Rollerdome, and Videopolis East.

Discovery Island is long closed and River Country as well (possibly permanently).

If you're looking for a place to eat, don't use this guidebook! You'll slowly starve to death as you search for the Adventureland Verandah, Egg Roll Wagon, Sunrise Terrace Restaurant, Stargate Restaurant, Land Grille Room, Character Cafe, Pueblo Room, Top of the World, Papeete Bay Verandah, Coral Isle Cafe, Flagler's, Garden Gallery, Fireworks Factory, Spinners, Merriweather's Market, Sweet Surrender, Fisherman's Deck, Steerman's Quarters, Empress Room, Minnie Mia's Pizzeria.

 Wow, thinking even further back, there was The Verandah restaurant, Village ice cream parlour and bake shop, Heidelbergers deli, and Village restaurant. Thats going back to 1984.:smooth:

The Egg Roll Wagon is still in Adventureland. I saw it 3 weeks ago. :)

Oh no. I love GP!!! We always grabbed at least one meal and some snacks from there. How sad. :(

Thanks. The article must have been written during the time it had been removed.:)

That stinks. I have good memories from there! My fiancee bought our cake topper there. (I hope that's not a sign ;) )

DTD does need another less expensive sandwich shop...I agree!
BUT....no....please don't get rid of GP!!!:(
We ALWAYS stop in there and grab cookies and cakes from the bakery!!! They have the best Mickey brownies!
After a day of shopping that was always our treat to take back to the resort.:(

First Tapestry of Nations.......:( ........now this!!!:( :( :(

How sad that this great little store will be closing. I also loved grabbing a cookie and cup of coffee and sitting out by the water. I get sad thinking of what use to be there and what is happening now.

I hate to hear that the GP is closing. It was always a place we visited while at DTD. They had great bakery items. It will sorely be missed!:(

Just sent my e-mail.

No one has mentioned a closing date yet, anyone know for sure?
