Recently they've had a thread here or on the community board about what funny/crazy/stupid things CMs have heard. Well we got our chance this past week at WDW. We were headed into the Fast Pass lane with our FPs in hand when we got stopped behind a rather clueless couple. The CM asked her for their FPs. Well the woman handed her their park passes. THe CM said nope, it looks like a little receipt like piece of paper. Then the guest handed her her actual receipt for her park passes! By that time, I just had to turn my head to keep from laughing out loud! I don't know how the CM kept a straight face, especially when she saw me turning my head and my shoulders shaking, but she did. The obviously confused couple finally turned away and we went on. The CM just grinned at me as we went on by her.:) Who knew that park passes would bypass any line?!

Hmmm ... I would have expected the CM to do a better job explaining, in order to help the guest out. If you've never been to Disney before, things like FastPass and Priority Seatings can be confusing. Hopefully some other CM or a frequent-Disneyite was able to help them out at another ride!

That reminds me of something that happened to me last year. I was in the line for Goofy's Barnstormer with DD and got chatting to an English family behind (Im from England, so it was kind of natural to start a conversation!). We were saying how busy the park was today (it was the week of July 4) and how bad the crowds were. I said "Thank goodness for Fast Pass though".

The English family had no clue as to what Fast Pass was, so I explained it to them and they were grateful as they didnt know about it. Then an American lady in front of me asked if I could explain it to her as well, which I happily did! Funny part of the story was though, she lived only 3 miles from WDW and had assumed for years that those "things" next to the big rides were special Disney mail boxes for the tourists and people were posting stuff into them!!! Fortunately, she thought this was as hilarious as I did and we had a good laugh about it. She couldnt believe that someone from 4000 miles away knew more about the park than she did! It was the best 30 mins line I had ever been in!

You don't have to be a frequent visitor to WDW to understand fastpass- the guidemaps that most people are carrying around have all the details about it- people just don't take two seconds to read about it. That's o.k.- just means the fastpass line is shorter! :D -Stephanie

Yep, you can tell the folks who don't read the guidebooks or surf the websites.:) What gets me is, there are literally dozens or more of people standing there when this happens. I would definitely ask about something that said FAST PASS, before I assumed anything!:)

I've discovered, in my travels, that most people don't really take it upon themselves to talk to strangers, even if it's a relatively safe place like WDW. I don't know if it's a cultural thing or simply learned behavior, but I've seen people wandering confused in parking lots, standing and trying to sort out a map, trying to figure out a menu ... all sorts of things ... and the people nearby don't help or offer a suggestion, they just shake their heads or laugh and walk away. I'm one of those, "Hi ... you look lost. Can I help you find something?" people, particularly at places I know really well. Now, if I'm in a mall parking lot at 11pm and some guy I've never seen before comes striding towards me and no one else is around, I'm probably more likely to fly into my car and lock the doors than to say, "Hi ... need any help?" But if I'm at line at the parks and someone near me is debating between attractions or trying to figure out the entertainment schedule, I'm probably going to butt in and help. No matter how easy FP may be to understand, if you've never been to a theme park before, it's all a foreign language. And if you speak a foreign language to begin with, it's even more frustrating!

It's up to folks like the DISers - those frequent WDW travelers - to help out the more confused!

I agree- all the CM had to say was- "Go get a fast pass from the machine and come back at the time on the ticket to bypass the line."

If I remember correctly, that's pretty much what the CM told them to do. She definitely tried to help them out. Me, of course I was still shaking with laughter too hard. Kept remembering that other thread....;)

WDSearcher I'm like you. We were in line for RnR during EE and the line was stopped at the FP area and my DD went to get FP so we could ride again. The ladies behind us couldn't understand why people were getting FP this early so I explained how FP worked and thet if they got one now the FP time would work out that they could ride again as soon as they finished this ride. They were so happy to know about it.

I also offer to take pictures for others so the whole family can be in them.

:rotfl: Thanks for the laugh! I really needed it today!!!
