Well, I did it! I booked the Wishes Dessert Party.

YAY!!! I think you'll really like this!! Especially to try out the new camera- congrats on that by the way.

Ok, back to the cake. I am going to get white almond with amaretto butter cream. That I know, the rest, who knows. I have a call into Pat at the GF Bakery so I need to make up my mind before she calls back.

Anyone have any ideas?????

It is cheaper now but it's 1/2 the cake! Last time I had an 8 inch on top of a 10 inch. Now it's just the bottom piece!

Look at it this way... how many pieces will you cut from it? Divide that by the $140 and you get the price per piece. Does it equal like an entire meal at Cali Grill?? LOL!

Well, I did it! I booked the Wishes Dessert Party.

I made a last minute decision yesterday to just do it. It was so much fun last year and the view of Wishes is outstanding so I figured what the heck!

Joe got a new video camera that we want to try out and that seems like the perfect time to do that. There won't be people bumping into us, etc. and we can test it out then.

We can cancel 24 hours ahead so if anyone decides they don't want to go, etc., I can get a refund and just reduce the party size.

Yay for booking the Dessert Party, I think it is a great idea, esp if you want to test out the new camera in friendlier settings

Yesterday while shopping at our local Giant Eagle I found Disney gift cards. We can't get Disney dollars anymore so these are the next best thing. As a bonus, for every $50 you spend at the store, you get fuel perks. They also have gas stations so you can get 10 cents off per gallon for every $50 you spend. It was like hitting the jackpot! Each time we shop I plan to get a gift card or two (they have them in $25, $50, $100 and $500) and put them away for our trip.

Sounds like a great deal and Disney gift cards always come in handy

Pat called me back today. Get this...........

I wanted a 10 inch white almond cake, amaretto filling, white fondant, stamped Mickey's and who knows what else.

She tells me today that she doesn't think that they can do the amaretto filling and that they only do it for wedding cakes. I told her that I got that last year. She pulled the order and said "yeah." So I asked her why I can't get it this year. She said that they make it only in large batches for wedding cakes. She asked me for a back up filling and I said strawberries and custard or cream or whatever it is that they use.

Moving on...........

We got to the stamped Mickey's. Last year I got silver. Since I had such a hard time thinking of what to put on the top of the cake, I just decided to go with peachy pink and yellow roses (my favorites). Given those colors, I asked for gold stamped Mickey's.................wait for it..................


THE MICKEY'S ARE NOW $40!!!!!!!!!!! She said that they went up dramatically because they use real silver and real gold. Here is the price comparison for the cake from last year and the cake for this year:

10 inch cake base
8 inch cake on top of 10 inch
white almond cake
amaretto buttercream filling
buttercream frosting and fondant on top
silver stamped Mickey's
white bow (i think it was gum paste or something)

After we compared the two cakes she said that she was going to check on the pricing and call me back. I really, really, really want the cake but it is killing me to pay that much considering what I paid last year.

What would you do?

It is ridiculous that they want that much for a cake, it really is. Thats part of the reason why I cancelled my order, just not worth it for two people.

I hope she can sort something out for you though as I know that you really want to get a cake to celebrate. Otherwise, what date is the Dessert Party booked for?

I received the final price from Pat. She said that she talked to the chef and that the final price is $115 for the cake. I still can't get over the $40 for the Mickey head stamps.

Anywho, after talking to Joe, we're going to go for it. Even though we don't know if the cake will have the filling we want or not. Pat said that the chef said that if they have a wedding cake going out with amaretto filling that he will do that for us. If not, it's the strawberry cream stuff or whatever it is.

We're just going to go for it since it is our 10th anniversary.

Here's a twist though.....

She said that they will just add it to our bill at GFC. Well, we have TIW card so does that mean we will get the 20% discount on the cake????? They are a participating restaurant so.......................

Giant Eagle is a grocery store chain. They sell a zillion different gift cards. I don't know when they started selling the Disney cards but geez, that's a jackpot for us. Cash off of the price of gas on them!

I have some awesome news! My cousin is joining us for part of our trip! We grew up very close and we are still close today. I was so happy when she said that she was coming down for a few days. I asked her about it around the first of the year but she said that she did not think it was possible. Well, yesterday she got her ticket!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! She will be there for the last 5 days of our trip.

I got super excited for a minute there yesterday because my friend at work was also going to join us. We have an office near Disney and she was going to do some business there then come over for a day or so. Well, she realized that it was the same weekend that they celebrate their anniversay and figured that her hubs would not like the idea. I totally understand but man, I have to admit, I was sooooo looking forward to having her there. It's ok though because our trips will cross for a couple of days next year and I am really, really looking forward to that!

That's so exciting! There is something about sharing our favorite place with people we care about. In 2008, my girlfriend Kit and her family overlapped with us for 2 days and it was great. My DD17 was so excited to have teens there her age, and I loved that they could do their thing and we did our thing before meeting up for meals. I tried to talk them into coming this year, but they are building a new home and there just isn't extra funds
