So I was booking a hotel through Hotwire and I booked a 3.5 star hotel for $47 a night. For those of you familiar with Hotwire, the only you get before you book is the price per night, amenities, hotel category, and general area in which hotel is located. It is not until after you book (pay in full, non-refundable) that you get the name and exact location of the hotel. Well, imagine my surprise (and delight) when it was revealed that the hotel I booked was the Regal Sun Resort (formerly Grosvenor) in the Downtown Disney hotel complex. It's basically right across the street from DD.

I'm really excited!!! Has anybody stayed there? l Any reports, good or bad? I'm kind of surprised that I got a hotel in that location, this far in advance (we're going in August), for so cheap. Any info is greatly appreciated.

You'll get some replies if you post this on the Orlando hotels board. :)
This board is for the Disney owned resorts.

that is a great price. I have never stayed there. Trip advisor is also a great site to use to read hotel reviews and see pictures.

We stayed there for one night this past Jan. I loved how close it was to DTD, we just walked across the street. They have a great pool, with new spray thing which is fabulous. We did not get a tower room, our room was in the old part which had no interior hallways, it was open to the outside and behind the hotel where it was not pretty like the pictures. There was the service entrance witht the loading dock right there. The website said it was newly redone so I expected more but the old part where we were was just repainted. I was not in love with the room but it was only one night so it was fine. I suggest you request a tower room. That way you will get a nicer, newer room. The pool area really made up for it though, you will have a great time.

I moved this to Orlando Hotels and Attractions, where you'll find more information about the Downtown Disney hotels. :)

That's a great rate! I've never used hotwire do they charge an extra fee on that? Are you staying for one night or longer? Linda :)

Hotwire is great. I've found great deals there.

The other thing you need to know is that full payment is made prior to know the name of the hotel, and it can't be cancelled by any means. Its great if you're sure you won't cancel.

I'm not sure I would use it for long stays, as the hotel might not be that great.

I also wouldn't use it on two star hotels. The savings just aren't worth, and the chances of getting a bad hotel are greater

I have found that for 3.5 or more, some extra charges might apply (parking, etc.).

That is a great rate! I haven't stayed there, but we did stay at the Courtyard Marriott at DTD (not CM anymore). We had a nice time and the hotel bus shuttle worked out fine for us! I think you will have a great trip.

By the way, you can go to biddingfortravel or betterbidding and you can get a pretty good idea of what hotel you will be getting before you bid.

The Regal Sun has a daily resort fee. When we stayed there in 2007, we were charged an additional $11.25 per day. We never used any of the amenities that were covered by the resort fee, but we had to pay it anyways.

Hi,

I needed a hotel for one night June 8-9 for our last night and got the regal sun (formally the grosvenor) as well. :cool1::banana::thumbsup2

They do charge the resort fee but I will need to use the internet becuase I do teach ( :teacher: ) online and I have class that night :surfweb:. So that is not a problem. I actually reserved this hotel on last week at 103 after taxes. AS soon as I got it I cancelled that one to keep the hotwire one

As far as staying there, we have stayed there before before the name change. It was ok at that time, but I have read the reviews on trip advisor and it is pretty good. Hopefully the pool will be functional so that the kids can swim. BEing across the street from dtd helps too.

Thanks again OP

Resort fees are very very common in the "usual" Orlando zones that folks might be using in Hotwire and Priceline. Primarily they are to make the listings look more competitive in the internet search sites (e.g. expedia) but they pay an extra dividend in PL and HW as well...

Yeah it just depends on which place. I know westgate doesn't charge for resort or parking although it is considered a resort. A lot of people don't like it though.. I don't know why; I loved it.
