Ok, so dd is 3 (in august) and since spring of 2008 we have been working on the whole potty training thing. We went to Disney and tried to pull the "Mickey Mouse would be happy if you used the potty at WDW and not a diaper." No go.
But about 3 weeks ago MIL was talking to dd about Santa and said "Santa would be so happy if you would use the potty before he brings you toys and candy"
And I swear, she had a "ah-ha" moment, asked to put on her big girl panties that afternoon and she was done with the diapers!
Which in turn she says "I use the potty like a big girl, I gonna get toys and candy from Santa!" Yes she is!! LOL And some new big girl undies!

YEAH! No more diapers!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Oh my gosh, please please send some of your good luck my way. My DD will be 3 in March and no matter what I do I can not get her trained.
What are some of the things you've tried? Maybe you've done some things that I havent and I can try them on my daughter.
BTW I've already done the bribery thing and it hasnt worked on her so that ones a no go. LOL :confused3

Congratulations! I'm already worried about potty training our new DD when she gets here, I sucked when doing it with DD4 and DS6. :rolleyes1

When my third child finally pooped in the potty, we took her to Disney (we live right here) and went straight to Mickey's house and told him. He was quite thrilled, bless that mouse.

A funny thing - someone I know had a son and she bought him underwear with dinosaurs on it. She told him if he had an accident, the dinosaurs would bite him!!!! Poor kid - but it worked!!!!:rotfl:

My DD(2) trained back in October.. She did NOT like those little potties- she liked sitting on the regular potty. The backyardigans seat helped A LOT. It took 1 day once I got all of this together. I gave her iced tea in a sippy cup every 1.5 hrs and it made her GO. It helped her learn the sensation. For the next 2 wks or so I would have to ask her if she had to T.T because she would not tell me, and then it all came together for her. She is dry every night in her pull-up. I'm really proud of her, and thankful we got rid of her di-di's because I could not handle the dirty ones any longer!

My DD was a fluke. She was completely poop trained by 2.5. (I didn't do anything). Then AFTER I had stocked up on pullups and swim diapers for our Dec WDW trip (at 2 years 8 months) she just decided she was done with them. Year later, still got pullups and swim diapers...anyone need 'em?

I'm here to celebrate with you!!! Our DD, who turned 2 in July, has been going pee pee on her potty for the last 2 weeks and she started to poo poo on the potty this week. She even wakes me up in the morning, or at night if she has to go. (I still put pull-ups on at night though, just in case!) My only problem is she only likes to go on her little potty and won't go on the regular toilet. I'm happy she is doing great and will eventually get her on the big potty!!
It happened pretty quick for us. I bought her some big girl panties to wear and after 2 or 3 accidents, she got the idea!

When DD9 was being trained, my mom bought her a TON of stuff from the Dollar Tree (coloring books, wands, crayons, you name it she bought it.) Probably spent less than $30. Then she wrapped everything individually and every time she went on the potty, she got to get a present. We did it a little weird tho. I would load her up on juice or tea or water and she would watch cartoons and we would color all while she was on the little potty. HAHAHAHAHA Looking back at the pictures, it's kind of a "what were we thinking?!" situation but it did work. When it was time for DD5, she would go but then sometimes forget. We were potty training right around the time I went back to work and I started paying my friend (who has 4 kids!) to watch her 2 days a week and she potty trained her in a day. She used a guilt method tho (and I didn't know about it til after it was already done, so I don't know how I would have felt about it beforehand...) and would say "oh poor whoever is on the panties, how sad they are that you peed on them!" and then after they were changed she would say how babies go in their pants, not big girls and blah blah blah. It worked, but it might not have been my choice....hahahaha

Congrats. My daughter has finally potty trained as well. We've been trying since she was 2.5, she's 3.5 now, finally last we after talking to her preschool teacher she started wearing underpants to school (was wearing pull-ups) she's had a few accidents but spends most days dry. She tells me it her responsibility to go to the potty and clean herself up if she has an accident. Actually by us telling her it was all on her to remember to potty on the potty she had her ah-ha moment and now only wears pull-ups to bed which she hates, she's knows if she wakes up dry for a week she can wear undies to bed and after I get a rubber sheet. She's working on it.

Yay! My nephew is 3 and STILL not potty trained. Though my brother and SIL are working on it. He's been showing signs of being ready to potty train since he was 18 months old *big old eye roll*.

Anyhow. Yay for her. :D

Congrats to you and your DD. I know what a huge accomplishment that is and how exciting it is to not have to carry around diapers in your purse/car. However, I do still have a pair of undies in my purse/car.

For our April trip, DS3 was in diapers. The night we got back from our trip, he started peeing on the potty. For our October trip, he was potty trained. How great was that!

YAY!! Congratulations!! I know how great you are feeling right now. DS just turned 3 in August. His birthday was on a Sat and that Mon we went to Daycare (I work there) in big boy pants. For the first couple of days, there were a lot of accidents. Day 3, one of his little friends who was also potty training said he had to go pee. I told the friend that if he went on the potty he would get a cookie. I made a huge deal about the friend going potty and getting a cookie, I even did a little dance and made up a song for him. Well, DS immediately decided that he wanted a cookie and a song too so he would pee on the potty too........AND HE DID!!! Over the next couple of weeks, there were a few more accidents but it has been smooth sailing since. After 5 1/2 years of diapers, my house is finally diaper free. Congratulations to all the recent potty trainers (and the moms) it is a huge accomplishment!!!

Congratulations! Let me just give a word of caution. Pretty much every bathroom in Disney has automatic flushers, which can be terrifying to a child if it happens to flush while they are still sitting! Your child's little body will not be big enough for the sensor to recognize that they are still sitting down. Trust me. I speak from experience. At one point in our vacation, the toilet flushed while my DS was still sitting, and it set him back about 6 months before he would even consider using a bathroom with an automatic flusher. He would walk into a bathroom, check to see if it was an automatic flusher, and turn right around if it was. He'd rather hold it! It was torture! So be prepared to cover the sensor. The best thing to do is bring some small stickers or sticky notes to cover it, which will free up your hands to support your child on the seat. I also carried around a child size portable/foldable seat in a ziplock baggie.

Good luck and have a great vacation!!

we're waiting to potty train the soon to be 2 yo till after our disney trip. She's been ready but 'I'm" not ready!

my 3rd was sooooooo stubborn. The only thing that worked for her was at 3 1/2 finally just throwing all the diapers away and not buying any more. Accidents or not! It took 2 or 3 weeks to finally go accident free. She's STILL stubborn :haha:

I am soooooo jealous. MY DD turned 3 at the end of August. She has awesome days then she has terrible days. We have tried everything to get her potty trained, but nothing works!

Congrats! It is such a great feeling.

My youngest will be 3 in March & early October she finally got it or I should say is still getting it as there are still accidents.

I did the total opposite with her. I actually used a potty seat vs the toilet. And I kept it in the living room.

Ahh..the next time I go to Disney I will be diaper free..but that is in 4 years.

I had to look at your location since this is my exact situation. My DS has been ready since he turned 2, but has had many bowel issues and we were advised not to potty train by the doctor until they had it all worked out. Now he is 2 and 10 months and we are finally ready to go for it. Except that he now is refusing!!! :scared1: How frustrating!

Congrats to the original poster!!!!

Sorry to highjack the thread, but have any of you had problems with your child be afraid of to sit on the potty? DD(21 mos) says she wants to sit on it, but then she screams when we try. We have a seat for her, but it still scares her. Any ideas? I do not want to use one of the small potty seats or pull ups because our daycare provider thinks that prolongs the training, and I want us to be on the same page. I am going to switch her to training panties, as soon as I can get her over the fear.

The daycare providere suggested letting her play with cheerios/froot loops in a clean potty for a week or so, but that seems gross to me.

Thanks,
