Got a Nook!

I know what you mean by protection. That's the reason why I made the covers. Too worried that I'd somehow scratch the screen or something while carrying it in my purse.
Here are the DIY covers I made:

I just wished I had it when I was still working/traveling years ago. It would've saved me a lot of $ and time while I was in the airports/planes.

BTW, for all you new nook owners. If you haven't bought a warranty and are interested in it. Check out square trade. They have excellent coverage for a LOT cheaper than BB/BN. And great reviews.
I bought a 3 yr coverage including accidental stuff (water, drop, etc.) for $28.
Look around for a code, I think there is a 30% one out there now. I got mine with a 40% code.

Hmmm, I'll have to check out the warranty. I've dropped mine 4 times so far (well, the kids have :sad2:) Luckily I have a really really sturdy cover so it hasn't been damaged.

BTW I love your cover sooo cute.

I just set up my dad's and at first trading books (once we bought from B and N)between our nooks seemed like a PITA but once I took my time, it was easy. You have to enter the other persons credit card info in order to open their book on your Nook. No biggie since we're family but if you didn't want to do this, you can lend the book.

But apparently you can only lend a book once and you can't read it while it's out on loan.

Being able to share books easily has convinced me (almost) on gettting them for the kids bdays.

Its so nice to read how much everyone loves their nooks! I work at B&N and I love selling them to people because I think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. I read even more now (which is saying something) because i can literally get a new book anytime I want. Its the best.

:hippie:
I have the Kindle and love it. I didn't like the touch screen on the nook, and the screen is better (IMHO) on the Kindle. Better contrast. Also, not all libraries support epub books to download, and mine does not. Also, the lending feature of the nook is a joke. You can only lend a book once and it is only for 14 days. So that wouldn't sway me away from the kindle. I think it depends what you want to read and if it is available for your device. Another thing to keep in mind is the customer service for the Kindle vs the Nook... Amazon has set up a special CS Center for the Kindle, and they will pretty much replace any Kindle once in the first year. I have heard horror stories of people trying to get good CS from B&N....
Another Kindle owner here..I don't hate the nook though. I think choice and competition are great..keeps all the companies on their toes. Amazon is wonderful with customer service and they have plenty of free books, if that floats your boat. Me, I don't mind spending money on books and they're still cheaper than buying hardcover.

I have an iPad too(typing this on it actually) and I primarily use it for web browsing email and media, not ebooks.

do you get free e-books? that would be so cool

You can. It depends upon what you want to read. Most classics are available free from a variety of sources. A few more recent former best seller e-books are available free (I recently downloaded Karen Marie Moning's Darkfever and Debbie Macomber's Blossom Street for free). There are a lot of short stories that are also available free. Many, many of the more recently published titles availabe as free e-books aren't the best stuff, but if you're looking for something to chase away boredom while waiting in line they're good filler.

I meant, do they give you free ebooks as an employee? that would be such a great benefit

also, there are free ebooks on the site on Fridays. Yesterday's looked like a good beach read

Do you get any books with it? You guys are convincing me I need one. I read mostly used books but my shelves are so filled even though I swap them back. I brought my current book with me the other day and it took up 1/2 of my purse.

I don't think the nook is coming with free books now amyy, other than the usual Public Domain books that are available widely for all the readers. But there are tons of free book resources for nearly every digital reader and also can be read on your computer and many cell phones/pda devices.

Borders just opened their eBook store this week and they are giving away 5 free ebooks (these are ePub and can be read on a nook btw)

I can't remember them all but there's Jillian Michael's book, a Jack Reacher novel, a Dean Koontz novel .... if you go to the Borders website you can see them and download them to your computer.

my dad told me that borders has a deal right now on their version- it begins with a K, I forget the name. He got an email for $20 off and it ended up being cheaper than a nook

Anyone else haveing problems downloading the free ebooks from Borders today?
THey are giving 5 free books if you download their ap, but it wont accept my credit card or another one I tried. You need one to set up an account to get the free books.

Where are the free books on borders? I downloaded their ap, but I don't see them... Thanks! :)

Go to the top 50 and you will see them. Dean Koontz, Jillian Michaels, Lee Child, Julia Childs and 1 more.

I didn't have any problems downloading the free ebooks from Borders, and I didn't need to enter a CC number when I created my account! I'm actually reading the book I downloaded (The Alchemyst) on my nook right now!

I still like B&N for convenience on my nook, but Borders is great because they're pretty much eReader-agnostic - you can read their stuff on anything but a Kindle. I downloaded a handful of their free eBooks (which are actually public domain books you can find elsewhere) when the opened. The only thing I wish they'd do is improve their free book list so that you can filter it by genre, etc. like you can the rest of their eBooks.

How did you do it? When I click on it, it takes me to where you enter th cc info. I dont see any other way????:confused3

This is probably a dumb question, but does it cost money to download the ebooks (I know some books cost money)? Meaning, on the nook website it says you can download for free at any at&t wifi hotspot. We don't have at&t wifi at home...I think I'm not understanding how these things work at all. Sorry!

The way I understand it (my nook is in the mail!!) is that you can download at home for free w/ whatever internet connection you have OR at any att hotspot if you're not at home. :)

Thanks! That is what I thought...but then you never know. I'm doing some reasearch and I am kinda disappointed with the selection of ebooks at our local library. This thinkin' about this purchase. :)
