Got a Nook!

How did you do it? When I click on it, it takes me to where you enter th cc info. I dont see any other way????:confused3

I'm not sure Lisa. I already had a Border's online account so I just went in through that. I never had to enter a cc number or anything else to get the books.

No clue. I did it through the Borders reader software tool, though - not on the website. Not sure if that makes a difference. I hadn't created an acct before, and I don't recall it asking any CC information when I created this one.

I think it may be down because even the search function on the website isn't working nor is contact customer care working.

I just hope it's easy to use. I love to read and always carry a book with me. I am seriously running out of room in my house. But I can't seem to part with any of the books I buy. And some authors I get signed copies of the book too. So this would save me space.
I'm just hoping it fits in my lab coat pocket. :)

Our Best Buy has displays of 3 or 4 different e-readers, the Nook, a couple of different ones by Sony and one other who's brand I can't think of right now. I have a Kindle and a Sony pocket reader. The pocket reader is much smaller (more like the size of a paperback) and does epub also so you can use it to check out library books (that's why I bought one). The Kindle can be seen at Target also; you might want to swing by and check them out in person to see which one may fit your lifestyle best.

I need to go check them out in the store. Do you hold it with one hand or two? Strange question but I have tennis elbow and when it acts up reading is a pain if I need to use both arms/bend in the elbow to hold book or turn a page.
thanks

Anyone else haveing problems downloading the free ebooks from Borders today?
THey are giving 5 free books if you download their ap, but it wont accept my credit card or another one I tried. You need one to set up an account to get the free books.

I tried three - won't work for me either.

Does anyone know anything about the Kobo from Borders? It looks like you can't download wirelessly...but I'm not sure that I really care about that. Just wondered if anyone has any experience with it?

I read the review on Cnet and it does not have wireless downloads. You have to either download to a computer or a smart phone first and then transfer to the device. It didn't really give it a bad review, but they did not recommend it at the current price. Instead they recommend the nook or a kindle.

I got my Nook as a Mother's day gift and I love it. It took a little while for me to get used to it but now I am hooked. I frequent the Nook sight on Facebook for free books on Friday and have gotten several free books online from B&N. There is also a group there so you can borrow books from each other.

My DD got her Nook as an early birthday present and wished that she had registered hers on my account, you can have up to five Nooks on one account. Then we could simply share books.

I bought the protective screen from B&N for $14 and while it was expensicve I feel it was worth it so that I did not scratch the screen, I also bought a cover for it (wish I was a talented crafter) so now I cart it everywhere with me without the worry I had before.

can't you share books anyway? my dad and I didn't use the same account, as long as we entered each other's cc number associated with the account we were able to share our books that we bought on B and N. We had each bought a book that didn't have the Lend Me option.

I know this is not a strange questions. My friend undergoes dyalisis 3 times a week and can't use one arm during the sessions. He has a kindle and uses it with one hand. The same goes for the nook.

Yes. there is a forward page and back page on EACH side of the nook. So you can use one hand without an issue.

Thanks everyone who responded regarding using the Nook with only one hand. One more reason why I think I need one. I must have been dropping more hints then I realized. My husband just mentioned something about a Kindle commercial so I made sure to saying I am now thinking of a Nook. I just wish my library had the "books".

If you know someone in a different area maybe you could use their library account. I just did this with my sister, she lives in Tampa and they have a lot more e-books than my library in Wisconsin has. She just sent me her card number and password and I am able to use Overdrive to check the books out. She doesn't have an e-reader and since the books automatically are returned after the 7/14 days there will never be any late fines. I have read three books from the library so far(10 days) and it really is easy to use.

I'm going to join the Philly library.

You could try mine- Upper Hudson Library System. Decent selection and you can check out 10 at a time. I didn't think we had many until I looked at DBFs, he's in the Adirondack system and they only 100 ebooks and every single one was checked out. To me, it's worth the fee to join a bigger library.
