Got a massive itch I need to scratch

How about Biltmore House Estate? They usually have better rates in February and 1/2 price tickets for the tour. It's a great place to visit in the off season. The only thing I wish they had at their Hotel is an indoor pool.

Thanks soccermom. I just picked the first room that popped up and was the cheapest. Maybe it was so expensive because I picked Friday and Saturday night. DH won't take time off of work for GWL. Last night he said that he keeps thinking of possible places and then he thinks if he is going to drive somewhere that is 4 hours away he might as well just drive a bit further to Disney. We are still in the brainstorming process.

:thumbsup2 It sounds like your DH is at least giving you a little input, and that's a step in the right direction! It's pretty tough to try to make someone happy by doing what they'd like to do, if they won't tell you what it is they'd like to do, lol. ;)

I agree with your DH, too much driving for just 3 days. Make it a week long vacation then I would consider the drive.

We talked about Biltmore but I'm not sure if DS would enjoy it. He's 10. I definately want to go there someday. I'm dying to see it at Xmas. Looking into the homestead thing. Do you know if they have snow? Our mountains don't really have snow right now. Our original idea a couple months ago was to go to the mountains.

How about a short cruise? Maybe out of Charleston, SC or Jacksonville, FL?

I understand your "jonesing" to go somewhere. We left last Thursday for a 3 night trip to Wisconsin Dells. It was about a 4 hour drive, and we have 3 kids (10, 5, 3).

I know the drive can be a deterrent, but getting away for a weekend and burning off the winter blues can be worth it. I guess it doesn't matter where you go, just plan something. It is so nice to get a winter break.

Also, if I lived 8 hours or less from Disney, I would probably be there 6 times a year or more. Have a great time with whatever you decide!

Trust me I would love to be there that many times a year but we only have 200 DVC points and we very rarely use them on a Friday or Saturday night to stretch them to the max. If we hadn't blown more than a year's worth of points on DL and Aulani DH wouldn't be having such a hard time. He's not used to paying for a room at Disney. Today bonus amounts are announced at his work so that might put him in a good mood. He did a rough draft of the taxes last night and wasn't very happy. He seemed to forget we paid last year. This year we are getting a small amount back but not the amount he was hoping for. I think he blocked out last year's tax season because of the amount we had to pay. If we end up going away I think we will end up at Disney because everything else I price is coming out much higher.
