GoPro

That's correct. There is no flash with a gopro. There are some after market lights that are relatively inexpensive but they are pretty much marketed and designed for diving.
With that said, both cameras have a low light setting for taking pictures of say the fireworks at night. On the Silver, you manually have to put the camera into low light mode where the Black its automatic.
The other true down side other then a ttl flash or a flash in general, is that they don't zoom. So in some instances, it will not replace a DSLR or a true video camera.
Ill try and post a video of the MNSSHP parade I took last year when I get home tom and thatll will give you a pretty good indication of how it does at night.

Where I find that that Gopros come in real handy, is in a parade setting, where on a monopod I can run it out to its full length, and not block anyones view and still get good video.
What would you recommend for divers? Black?

Depends. It truly comes down to budget and how much editing you want to do. Personally Id go with the silver since you already have the LCD backpack built in. It comes with the waterproof housings to fit. Depending on how deep you plan on going, I would also suggest the appropriate color filters and or the Flip filter pack, along with a monopod of some sort, (not to be confused with a selfie stick) and a Gobe Light or 2. The tray from I want to say backscatter, works really well for diving and mounting lights.

When you buy the Black, you have to buy the LCD backpack separate, which is about 80 over the price of the camera. Either way you still get the housing covers for the appropriate sized backpack, and they are both rated with the waterproof housings to 130' the max recommended rec depth.

For diving, and I did this the last 2 days on vacay in the Keys, trying out our stores latest acquisition, the LCD is worth its weight in gold.

What does everyone use to edit their videos. I bought one for our last cruise and have a lot of footage but now I don't know what to do with it. I would love to make a movie with music. Is it best to buy software for that or is there a good free product out there?

I'm no expert by any means - we bought a GoPro two days before our last Disney trip last October. I used Windows Memory maker for editing. I combined the videos and pictures, and then added music. It was pretty easy. And we just have the $129 Model. The only things I don't like, which are mentioned, it doesn't do great in low light, and no zoom. Best purchase though for our trip :) Here's the video I made

Wow, if it is not it's strength- it still did amazingly well. I am going to have to buy this!

Yeah I don't think the GoPro is bad, but it just doesn't pop like daylight videos. Here is one I took of the Fesitval of Fantasy Parade. What is interesting about this is you can hear the difference in the beginning when the camera is in its waterproof case. So you can get a feel for just how muted the audio will be with that case. For the parade I wanted to enjoy it with my family so I just set the camera on the ledge and let it records.

No one's mentioned it yet but for our first DCL cruise last week we bought the no frills $129 GoPro Hero. For what it is, it did amazingly well during our first snorkeling session ever, which was in the snorkeling lagoon at CC. Here's a clip I made a couple of days ago using GoPro Studio.

I recommend getting the flotation accessory if you're taking it in the water.

Sidenote: me being dumb and careless didn't secure the GoPro securely to my trunks while snorkeling and we lost it in Serenity Bay. DCL sent it to us a couple of days later, so again, flotation accessory worth it.

I have a gopro and would like to add the pictures from memory maker to my project. Currently I am using gopro studio as software and it's not recognizing the memory maker pics. Apparently they are JPEG and not jpg. Can anyone help?

With everyone talking about gopros I thought I would give my 2 cents I have purchased a waspcam tact this has the same video quality of a gopro hero 3 but is a lot cheaper. the up sides to this is has a little lcd screen on it so you can see what you are shooting it also has two led lights on the front for lo light shooting. when you buy this camera it comes with 5 different mounts in the box plus a wrist controller for shooting video and pic from a distances for getting that group selfie with out having to ask some one. also all gopro mounts work with this camera. this camera is also water proof down to 98 feet with out the need of a case. I love this camera better then my buddy's gopro and the battery last a lot longer then his. this is just my 2 cents hope this helps people looking for a cheaper but good alternative.

In the folder that they are in, open a picture. Under the files tab select save as. On the drop down for type, it should give you a choice of jpeg, jpg, bitmap etc. Try changing it to jpg. Then save to a new folder so you don't get confused. There's also some free transfer apps.out that can do multiples simultaneously.

I am considering a GoPro myself and feel that the Hero 4 Black would be best since it will probably be something we keep for awhile. Not to mention that gadgets usually get better and better every year or less. I am also into clarity and since I went with a 4K TV, it would be nice to watch actually 4K "home" videos on it.

Thanks. But I tried and the gopro studio had issues with importing it. I haven't bought any programs to convert it. But I'm probably not going to include them. Might try another program for editing overall. Thanks again!

I looked last night and there's a few free online batch conversions. You don't even have to download the program. What's the message that it's giving you when you try to import the converted pics? I can get with our rep and see what he says.
