Not sure if this is the right place to post this question-

Has anyone used a GoPro at the parks? We're going with my mother, and she mentioned the thought of using one there. She's treating us to this vacation, so I thought that if anyone had good feedback, that we'd buy one for her as a gift to use during our visit.

If you did use one, what rides/attractions did you use it for?

What model did you use?

What attachments did you use?

Any other suggestions appreciated!!

I rode Soarin' a couple of weeks ago and they actually had an announcement DURING the ride asking someone to cease using their Go Pro.

Quite a few people have done that. Here is a good one that was posted on Sat. ::yes::

yes certain attractions have a no video no photography restriction. Its mostly show/film types ones like soaring, COP, etc. But not any of the ones you would expect like EE.

I saw A LOT of these over the last week, not quite sure what the point of it is though.

I guess the point is to have a real-time video record of everything you do at WDW, including of the rides while you are riding them. So you can relive the entire vacation instead of just looking at still photos. Appeals to some. I don't see the appeal personally.

I've gone so many times that I bring mine to be able to capture video. We bought it for other purposes and decided to use it on one or two trips. It is definitely not our go to camera though and if it gets left at home we don't care.

The issue I saw with the Gopro, is that if you have to be fumbling around with a camera on a stick, or something you have to constantly pack, unpack, focus on, you're going to waste a ton of your vacation NOT appreciating the vacation itself.

You're not on a shoot, you're on vacation, why would you want to focus on anything other than being absorbed in the moment?

That being stated, I also enjoy many pictures, videos and for my upcoming vacation in 2 weeks, I decided that I wanted to be able to capture a bit more, but not worry about holding a camera.

So, I looked at google glasses, way too expensive for video needs, and then I ran across Pivothead Camera glasses. It has interchangeable lenses for clear, gold, grey polarized, and would allow me to naturally enjoy the vacation without too much additional distraction worrying about video lineup. If I'm looking at it, it's in the picture.

I found one used on ebay, and it's 1080p. I also found footage from an older model on someone's website showing them riding Thunder Mountain, and it looked great.

It's an experiment for me, but I'm hoping it will give me some great additional footage without much hassle.

Here's a video of a guy using both the glasses and a handheld camera (so you can see the glasses, slightly bulky, but I wouldn't care): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So9VTRk8_W4

Yes, saw tons of them on sticks. I don't see the appeal of capturing video of rides, parades, etc. I can watch the same show on youtube with what is surely a better quality video than what I could take myself.

Its just fun for me. We also don't use the stick. I have the wrist strap and so on some rides I can film myself and friends riding with out having to worry about losing anything. They make cute memory slide shows later. Like I said I go at least 4 times a year so when I go we try new things.

I also use it while running sometimes to show family members the course and such.

I kind of think it is akin to the slide projectors I was subject to as a child or videos if my grandparents cross country drives. Yes we could have rented tapes commercially produced or rented slides about where my grandparents went or we could watch what my grandma went through the labor to capture and hear her narrate it.

The ones on sticks are annoying. People were sticking them up on rides and for parades, blocking the view of others. And I saw people whack other people with them because they weren't paying attention.

Some moron hit me in the head with a Go Pro on a stick when we in line for 7DMT. He kept swinging it around trying to video everything and nailed me in the forehead with the camera.

used Hero 3+ a few weeks ago, had a lot of fun with it. GoPole is a must have accessory IMO. Certainly does not replace a DSLR, but the video quality is outstanding.

Never had a problem on any rides or complaints from others.

Why would anyone complain *to* you about it? I'm sure many were complaining about it, but what's the point of talking to a user about it?

I was being negative about it near a sales kiosk (where it's OK to state an opinion about something for sale) and the employee heard me and got all up in arms about it because he loves to use it at themeparks like his use of it was going to convince me that suddenly I didn't mind it. Didn't work. I don't like it, I think it's a liability, and when are people watching all this video? I wouldn't have complained TO him if I saw him using it, though. Until someone sneezes and loses control of it and it hits someone. Which is inevitable.

I don't use mine on a pole so I might take offense if I heard someone say all gopro users are jerks or are annoying. Mine is strapped to my wrist so no real chance its going to come flying off or getting in someones way.

took mine on almost every ride, never once had a close call with hitting someone - even sneezed a few times too.
