Goofy Support Group (AKA Goofy Challenge 2010)

What a difference a week makes in attitude! Woo hoo.

I am taking tomorrow off for my long run. Looks like a cold (for Houston) and rainy day with a possibility of white stuff. No not dandruff! I am looking for a nice mid teen run.

My midweek runs were spot on this week, almost. I hate to say this but I broke my treadmill list night. We are in a new house and my DW and I have not come to terms on the need to make the treadmill a centerpiece of the last bedroom. So it now lives in the garage  Anyway, given the cooler weather this week and the fact the coefficient of expansion for the deck material is greater than that of the belt on the treadmill (if you did not do well in physics, the bed of the treadmill shrinks more in cool weather than the belt) the first 2-3 minutes of any run below 60F is a little dicey on the unit. Literally, the run feels like ice as the belt slips on foot strike. I got the brilliant idea of starting the mill up and letting it warm up while I changed clothes. When I got back out the thing was in siren mode alerting me to a dead sensor. I played around with the unit and I think that the speed sensor failed or needs reset. The unit starts fine but never stops at a speed; it just continues to gain speed until the unit faults out to protect itself.

Fortunately, the repair company will be in my part of town tomorrow afternoon. I am sure the tech will admonish me for selecting the garage. I will tell him to put it in writing and then use that as ammunition for our new exercise room.

Just a few more weeks, HANG IN THERE! We're going for that special medal - a one of a kind medal. The 5th anniversary medal! We can do it! Get those long runs in, don't shorten them unless you absolutely have to. It's only a few hours out of a day. No biggie. We spend at least that much time on the DISboards sometimes.

The above is what I keep playing in my mind. I'm having to convince myself that it will all be worth the effort I'm putting into this. I'm scared at times, too, Tricia. I had a dream the other night that while I was in the process of taping my feet for blister prevention, I heard the gun go off for the WDW half-marathon. By the time I made it to the start line, I was told it was too late. I remember thinking (in my dream) that if I had to miss one of the races, I'd rather it be the full than the half. ;) What's really odd about this dream is that I never have panic attacks or rarely even dream about races. I just go out and do them. However, this dream seemed soooo real to me. I'm not sure what it means. I'm hoping it just means that I need to be sure to set my alarm clock a little earlier the night before.

Thanks - I too had a dream about the Goofy but it was a few months ago. And I normally never have dreams about the races. Like you said this one was odd - well besides my brother in law being at the race - which unfortunately will never happen :sad1: - I woke up before I finished the races so I don't know the outcome but I know I got my Donald medal - the wierd thing is that right before the full I wasn't dressed in my running clothes and had on my Donald medal and I was getting ready to sit in the stands with my brother in law. Funny how the mind thinks when we are sleeping.

Charles - glad to hear you got your motivation back - I get it back and then lose it quickly. Hopefully I will get it back in time for and 18 miler Sunday. Sorry to hear about your treadmill - hopefully it can be fixed quickly and inexpensively.

Charles - Guess your wife probably doesn't want to hear that our TM is the centerpiece of our living room, huh? There's a whole list of reasons, but that's where it ended up, and it hasn't managed to move yet. I'm sure our friends think it's strange, but hey, we're runners, so we have a TM beside our front door... :lmao:

Susie - The dreams haven't started yet. I'm sure they're coming. The panic attacks are already here! I'm just trying to decide if and when I'm going to do another LR. Originally my Galloway leader told me I really didn't need to do another one after Richmond, but he said it wouldn't hurt to do a 16-20 miler sometime in December. It would be really easy to forget that piece of advice.

Diane - It was 62 when we went out today for our run. The forecast for this Saturday's run is for rain, snow, and/or sleet. I'm thinking we've seen the end of the good weather?

Tried to run Monday night and failed - my legs just refused. I basically walked 2.3 miles just to say I did something. Took a couple of days off, and went out tonight and had a great 5 mile run. Scheduled to do 10 on Saturday, may do something Sunday but don't know depending on how the weather goes. Then we're doing a very hilly half next Sunday. I guess that means I need to try for 20 the following weekend. Ugh!

My chair lives by the front door too!!!

It moves from side to side so its either by the dinning table or piano.

If I have to use the indoor trainer then it moves in to the lounge so I can watch TV.

I told my DH that there was no way that it was going in the garage.

I fell off again today:rotfl2: my neighbour parked there car outside and I was trying to go around the corner fast without hitting it, I couldn't make it so I hit the disk brake and fell off....at least I didn't hit there car!!!!!

Well, fellow Goofy-ers....

Still plugging along - completed the Seattle Half this past weekend, making three in the past 90 days. Am I nuts?

For some reason, the idea of the full marathon is somewhat frightening to me - probably because I've never completed one. I wanted Disney/Goofy to be my first, but because of that some doubt is creeping in....

So I just keep plugging along with my training....and yes, I'm having dreams about the races too!

Hello, Goofy team mates!

Waivers are out with our bib numbers! HM: 44786 M: 18275...IT"S REALLY GONNA HAPPEN!! :scared1::scared1:

As Pat posted, we had a GREAT 16 miler on Saturday. Perfect weather, great scenery, good company! It was exciting for me, in that I had never gone that far. However, not so sure about another 10 miles after that! The next day the weather was not so nice! Came home on Monday and got right back to 50 minutes on the TM with 20 minutes ST. My schedule is going to get messed up big time this weekend. The following weekend Pat and I have the Kiawah Half Marathon. We're hoping to turn it into a 20 miler. We'll pick up our medals and keep on going! :lmao:

Everyone, you are doing so well in getting your steps in and getting your motivation back!!! Keep your eyes on the prize!! :goofy:

Way to go Anne

Chris 20 miles should be nothing you did 26.2 only a few weeks ago.....I hope its not so cold though!!!!!!!

Its raining so hard here Disney had to call of the christmas taping today......and we're just off to the trail!!!!!!

Wow Kristy - now I am glad I didn't get the tickets for the taping of the parade - hope it clears up soon. Its a little rainy down here as well. Guess its coming this way - lets hope it has some cool weather behind it., I can use it on my 18 miler on Sunday

I'm down you way on sunday....Palm beach marathon.

We have tickets for tomorrow.

20 Miles down. One more 20 to go in two weeks and I'm all set. Feel alright after 8 yesterday although those 8 were on the tready.

syko - Nope not me. Haven't done a Marathon since Goofy 2009.

Got 15in this morning! Nice rainy/snowy morning. Started off with temps around 41 and a slight north breeze. My neighborhood loop heads north first then loops south of the house does a little loop at the south end then head north back to the house. First loop went off with little effort except for the friend of Beavis who ran me into a water puddle as he inched right towards me. Stopped at the house for a little b-room break then headed back for loop two. Loop two was not as great as the winds started to pick up and the snow got harder (OK this is Houston and is you get an accumulation it’s a blizzard – you stay in cause no one understands cold weather driving). I hit the southern end of the course and just as I was entering the small loop the arctic part of the front came through with a significant wind. Hard enough to cut through the back side and even chill the downwind side. I decided that I needed to get out of the weather and head home – losing about 2 miles off the total.

I am happy with the result – though I am just going to have to settle with running the event and leave the pushing out this year. :thumbsup2

Hope everyone has a great training weekend! Waiting on my treadmill repairman. The crazy speed sensor came back to life but I really need to get the unit serviced anyway.

Sorry Chris......I thought that you did the full in columbus with me.

It was 57 and pouring with rain, but we got 20 done in 1:41.

Still having trouble with the disk, so after filming at WDW, we will have to go to the shop before we leave for Palm Beach.

Did 14 miles and 4:00 hrs this week. Longest of any 5 Goofy's. I feel pretty good. Week of rain is coming so might miss this weeks 15 M.

We are in a state of mourning at the household……

The treadmill doctor said it’s time to pull the plug and move on. The PaceMaster Pro was a good friend. I actually trained for the 01 Disney marathon almost exclusively on it. Of course that was also one of the primary causes for a huge blistering issue but that’s a different story. She had 10 years under her belt and had traveled around 5,000 miles. She fought hard till the very end allowing for a 14% incline interval run last Tuesday.

The doctor said we could perform heroic measures but he was not 100% sure of what was happening. It started spewing out a series of 6-7 error codes as well as knocking a house circuit off line. I could attempt a transplant operation but at a minimum it would need to be a double organ transplant. Either the motor was failing or the bottom circuit board was gone…either could cause failure of the other if only one is replaced. Both together would cost about half the value of a new one…but the belt and deck are nearing the end of their lives, also - making the expenditure run up to 80% of a new mill.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Sometimes getting rid of something old is good for a younger model. Only talking about TM's ;)

I haven't posted much on here cuz I don't have internet at my house so most of you probably don't know me. I had a really hard time today. I had stomach issues, TOM came to visit and I was supposed to do 18 miles. I am training for the Goofy. Last year I did a modification of John Binghams MFM walk run program. I did the half fine and then the full ( I got to mile 23 and then got swept due to my pace). This year I decided to just do the MFM walk/run program without the modification to do back to back long runs. Anyways, I started today's and only did 3 miles. Nothing was right. I was wearing a tank top and a long sleeve tech shirt. I was getting really hot and then the wind blow and it would get really cold. It was uncomfortable. I really am not looking forward to 20 miles. A few weeks ago I did 16 miles and it was terrible. My pace has been between 15:30 and 16 minutes per mile most of my long runs. At this point, I know my pace is not going to increase any. I find myself being disgusted with the thought of running and scared and anxious at the same time. Can I get some opinions about these last few weeks. I was thinking that I might just taper these last several weeks and do 12miles instead of 20 which is my longest run still on the schedule. I think I have 8, 20, 10, and 6 left on my long distance saturdays. At this point I hate running and I wonder what possessed me to do this race again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
