I came to this site looking for information on WDW since we will be going there soon, and I ended up getting a lot more than I expected. I have been home from work for weeks, recouperating from some surgery and the computer helped pass the time (I am not used to being on here very much, but this place can be addicting!). I have never participated in a message board and I found this one to be really great (*with the exception of the debate board). Everyone here seems to be so nice, and very helpful at answering everybody's questions. I learned a lot; even got some good tips and advise. There are some really good people on here. Thank you to all of you!

I realize it may have been inappropriate of me to come here and vent, and I am sorry. I was feeling a little down last night when I posted it. Its just that all things Disney have always brought nothing but good thoughts to me. When I started to read some things on the debate board (joking about pediphiles, rape, etc...) I was really disappointed. I know there can be no good without evil, but this is suppose to be a family friendly site, and I never expected to see some of what I did over there. I take full responsibility for going over there, and it's my own fault.

Dan: Since the day I have discovered this site, I have come to know you as a very warm and caring person. You always make people feel good, and after reading your reply to me, I felt so much better. I am sorry it got deleted. That's when I realized that I had unknosingly started a debate of sorts here, so I decided I'd better just edit my post.

Thank you all for the replies. I also accept the criticism. I will try to have a more open mind (I just like to have tunnel vision when it comes to Disney...it's all suppose to be good).

Very sorry you had a bad experience with the Debate Board. It can be a very rough place at times, but it can also be very interesting.

I agree that anyone that condones things like rape, child pornography or child molestation has no place on a Disney site. In fact, anyone that condones that type of thing has no place in society, period.

I think the moderators of the DB do a very good job of cutting off threads that get out of hand. If they don't catch them, it's our job to report them. You might want to consider that before you bow out completely.

If the DB isn't your cup of tea (and it isn't for many others), just hang out on the other boards. They are much friendlier.

disdreams sorry you feel that way but to be honest the DB is a better place for all of that stuff than over here on the CB. I often go to the DB and post stuff I am sure you have read some of it and do not care for what I write especially about tthe stuff posted on the internet. I have been to some of those sites I was sent an e mail of a motorcycle accident and it had a pic from that site listed and so I went to look at the rest of the pics from that accident. I ride and race motorcycles and it interested me to see the outcome of the accident as I have seen many in my 11 years of riding and even witnesseda fellow race die not 50 feet from me after a crash and then getting run over by another racer. Sorry you feel that way about some of the stuff on these boards but it really is a great place to come to just try and remember to steer clear of the DB id you don't like what goes on over there is all I can offer as a solution to that one.

As for the debate board, I believe they'd tell you to hit the back button and go on. The DB isn't for sissies. LOL I'm not calling you one (I'm the real sissy. I rarely visit and that is not to debate. I usually just ask a lot of questions and learn some different view points there.) There are a lot of different boards here. That is probably just the one for you to avoid. For the most part, I don't think they are as *bad* as people make them out to be. A lot of it might be 'Devils' advocate' type of thing and while they may feel passionate about certain topics (don't we all), I think if we met in RL they'd be nice folk. JMHO.

Religion is a touchy subject. Usually the only one topic I post about over there. I am passionate about my faith and my God but like to hear different thoughts and opinions. People open up more on the DB than they usually do in a RL conversation so I usually enjoy it. I hate the disrespectful ones but I have always found (with only 1 or 2 exceptions) most people who post about it (believers or not) can talk respectfully. Just my experience.

As a participant in the debate board, I am saddend that its content may have driven you away from the DIS. It is a very challenging board to read and post on and at times it can be difficult to read the threads there without becoming insulted. I know I have inadvertantly insulted others there, and the same has happened to me. I also know that in most cases it was not intentional.

I hope you wil stick around here on the CB. No matter what your decision, I wish you all the best.

<font color=navy>I don't visit the debate board often - I just don't like to argue (especially when people just don't understand that I'm right j/k.

I learned a long time ago not to worry about what other people think, even when it's against my own beliefs. I may know or think I'm right, but it'd be pretty presumptuous to dictate to others how they should think or talk or act.

Although the debate board may seem rough at times, I think it was a natural evolvement of a community where people from all over the world come not only to share a love of Disney, but a part of their own lives. Just like there are those who like to concentrate on the positives and the good in life, there are those who enjoy a good debate, pushing the button, as it were, to get a reaction and some heated dialogue. Although I don't really get into any discussions myself, sometimes I enjoy reading the well thought-out replies.

The Mods & WMs try hard to keep this a family friendly site, and if there is something really bad being said, the best thing to do is click on "report to a moderator" link.

That's funny, because she wasn't just looking in the sewer, as far as I can tell, she was swimming around in there too. I think she probably just realized that not all people are going to agree and decided to come back to the CB for a good strong dose of PD, Lord knows she won't find any there.

I did do a search on your name to see what you were speaking of, and the thread I think you are speaking of shows up as the second one in a search on you. I went to the OP (http://www.disboards.com) of that thread and after clicking on the link (http://www.******.com/) was appalled, to say it mildly, that the link to that site has been allowed to remain on the DIS.

I have to say Dan, I guess you're not much better. Getting a closer look at that sewer, are ya?

Maybe he thought that by bringing the link here, something might be done about it by a CB Moderator, since nothing was done about it by the DB Mods.

I have no problem with people visiting these sites if they want to, but I thought there were certain rules about putting links to other sites in a thread (maybe I am way off, I don't know), but you would think that if ever that type of rule would need to be enforced it would be for THAT type of site.

I don't know...... Mods, are there rules against linking to porn/shock sites in a thread?

I think you're right, but a less passive aggressive thing to do would have been using the 'report to a moderator' button, I think he knows where that is.

I'm with pw2pp on this one, I think Dan brought it over here so something would be done about it. I have no problem with the site (I wouldn't look at it but don't care if others do) but the DIS is visited by ALOT of kids who could inadvertantly click on that site and I wouldn't want that to happen. I also am of the mind that Dan is truly one of the most sincere and warm posters on the boards

If he's worried about kids seeing it, maybe the CB isn't the best place for it. Dan, at the bottom of your post is a button, it says 'report this post to a moderator' click on that, but don't bring the yuck over here where there are kids. I doubt many kids hang out at the DB though.

Sorry to the original poster that we kind of "hijacked" your thread.
I think I was a little "taken aback" by some of the stuff I read 3 years ago when I first came to the DIS, but over time, I have to admit I have become more open-minded and actually ENJOY reading the vastly different opinions that people hold here (it is representative of "real life" and has probably helped me to relate to many different types of people in my real life).
So maybe sit back, chill out a little (I don't mean that in a condescending way) and enjoy all the people God has put here on Earth (maybe we can all learn a little from each other).

Well disdreams perhaps you should stay on the CB where all is pixie dust and light hearted fun.

You may not like what you encountered on the DB but that is part of life. I don't believe it's realistic to close your eyes to the things that you don't like.

From having met Dan I would have to say he was doing this in the best interest of the DIS and trying to get someone to lock it or take it down. He is probably the most concerned person on the DIS with regards to what goes on in here and wouldn't have posted that for any other reason.
