Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

And don't forget expensive (says those who have just splashed out thousands for a Disney vacay but can't swallow $4 for a coffee) ;)

:lmao: Funny thing is, a Iced Coffee at WDW costs $4. It comes in 3 flavours, Mocha, Latte and French Vanilla and is 16oz. At the DCA Starbucks location for $4 you can get a 31oz iced coffee in with 4 different flavours on offer, including Vanilla, Mocha and Latte.

So for the same money, you're getting almost double the amount of drink and Starbucks is considered expensive?

I just quoted you. NOt sure where your extra verbage came in? :confused3 Can you explain? thanks

I didn't mean it that way it sounded, I was agreeing with you. :thumbsup2 I love the ice cream sandwiches at WDW. However many people (not you specifically) ignore the fact these aren't "Disney" made, they are partially from Nestle and partially Edy's Ice Cream.

Okay Diser's...

When I say homemade icecream sandwich I'm referring to the hand dipped ice cream between to large homemade cookies. Not the pre-package icecream sandwich that comes in a square icecream bag.

thanks!

I'm not going to sort through all the replies, but this did upset me until I asked the CMs in the bakery about this. They pointed out that the ice cream parlor is Edy's, but the theming is done very well and it doesn't scream "EDY'S" all over the place.

I think it will still look/feel like the classic Main Street Bakery that serves Starbucks coffee and has an occasional small logo here and there.

Can someone please point me to where is says, in writing, the words that the cinnamon buns, and other popular food items will be gone as a result of this change? Go ahead, I'll wait.

You know what they say about assuming......

I've also heard that a steaming plate of crow pairs well with a triple grande white mocha latte.

OMG thank you for the best laugh of the day! I laughed so hard, my dog was barking at me, ROFLOL! :rotfl:

Um, well Jimmy, McDonalds used this same strategy when selling their tasty fries in EPCOT and the Magic Kingdom. Their logo was there but it was subdued within the kiosk. The golden arches were NOT blaring and glaring at the customer because they (Disney) wanted to keep the integrity of the EPCOT aesthetics.

And McDonald's pulled out, so much for that strategy.

Ooh, ooh, can I play? I am a little apprehensive; worried my ham and cheese and egg croissant sandwiches won't make it onto the new menu and we're stuck with cold cardboard, like in most sbux I've been in. BUT, the real worry is...

Wait for it...

WHAT IF THEY DON'T ACCEPT THE DINING PLAN??!! :0

You may have hit the nail on the head here. It is often all about the money. And I have seen a family of 6 dining for breakfast there on one cinnamon bun using one snack credit.. :rotfl2:

No, I will not be upset then. If it turns to be same exact theme as we have now, not similar to fit surroundings but same, you know, same tiles, same colors, with only change is to be addition of machines and whatever items they feel like to add, even sign outside and few SB logo items to buy like mugs, I will not care. The feel of the bakery would stay the same in this case with only addition of something new, why not.

For the love of God, what color are the tiles, are they made of gold? You can be this rigid with your own home, but it is unrealistic to expect this of a dining establishment at WDW..

I quoted it for you. Bolded is what you asked me about and this is what I shake hands on. Notice, anything more then refurbishing of just a portion of MSB to fit machines/new products, any change in present theme/decor in the rest of MSB as per article and admitting being wrong is on you. Good to go? One of us is eating hat in a year.

Will "hat" be on the menu at the new Main St Bakery? I say let's make this into a DISmeet and watch the event in person... :rotfl:

The funniest to me is when people talk about corporate involvement in Disney World and say "Walt wouldn't have wanted this!!!!!"

It's like they're just choosing to ignore the fact that Kodak's involvement in the Disney Parks began when Disneyland first opened and, gasp, Walt was alive.

Agreed - Everyone seems to forget that Walt wanted a cigar/smoke shop on Main Street, but that is not there any more...

Trying to be the voice of reason here - little children will not die.

Change is very hard for many people to accept easily and/or willingly. But, in the grand scheme of things, changes to the Main Street Bakery are miniscule compared to changes that could be implemented at WDW.

This is not like they are taking down the monorail, or Cinderella's Castle. They are making business minded changes to an eating venue only. The pastries can be found in other venues in the same park, and there will even still be many original pastries and treats sold in the newly refurbished Starbucks sponsored location.

They are introducing a new corporate sponsor, which IMHO certainly helps keep WDW solvent.

If individuals are not happy with the new bakery when it reopens, then don't go there. There are other options within the park, or outside of WDW even. But please keep things in perspective and try to keep an open mind.

For those who have not read all 600+ posts, I just repeated myself here, lol.

thanks!

In whose home were those cookies made? In whose home was the ice cream churned?

That's the point people are trying to make - it isn't homemade now (even if it doesn't come pre-packaged).

Tasty? Yes. Homemade? No.

And on top of it you can still get the ice cream sandwich in question else where in MK!

I think the horse is dead people. Let's just wait and see what Disney does! We all know they do amazing theming and I'm sure MSB will be amazing with the inclusion of Starbucks!

Hmmmmm, not sure where the disconnect is coming from here....:confused3 The subject is the closing of the MSB in lieu of Starbucks. You're here arguing semantics.

Not really sure of why there is so much hostility and snarkiness here! There is no right or wrong answer! We are all entitled to our opinions and none of us is "wrong" when it comes to how we individually feel! This is a discussion board for Pete's sake!

Check the condesension at the door!

The two items that are under discussion:

It isn't snark. It is the idea that slapping two premature ingredients together isn't homemade. It would be like saying subways are homemade because you see them put them together. Or that boxed Mac and cheese is "homemade."

Both of those can be found elsewhere in MK now...

Yes they can. The cinnamon roll has been reported at least over at the Dumbo Circus Tent in the new Fantasyland, and the ice cream sandwich is available at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments, Fountainview Cafe in Epcot, Dino-Bites in AK and Hollywood Scoops in DHS. That is what I found on Disney's Food Blog.

because you and others are using words like homemade to make a point that big bad starbucks is going to take away the innocent homemade traditional treats and replace them with corporate big business foods. the reality is nothing of the sort.

This. It is not semantics - it is an important distinciton.

Once again you are lying and twisting my words. Please cite where I said that they will take away the innocent homemade treats? Further, you are the most rude, crass poster I have seen on this thread. You follow me around and post nothing but sarcasm. You are nothing but a bully.

You mentioned you did not read the whole thread, you just popped in the last few pages. There are folks who have posted here that they have cancelled their WDW trips because of this, and others who have organized petition drives asking everyone here to sign. The protests even extend to complaints that the tiles and colors may be changed in the current venue.

Most people feel that boycotting WDW is overreacting to the change in sponsorship of Main St. Bakery to Starbucks. Hence the strong feelings you are finding on this thread.

So, yes, there is heavy discussion on both sides of this issue, and the debate of each person's position is definitely being scrutinized.

The nice thing about DIScussions here is that you can bow out any time, not open the thread etc. But if you enjoy this type of "debate" then you are able to go on with presenting your viewpoints.

Hope this helps explains some of the history behind the topic here for you. :)
