Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

Do you walk around the parks with blinders on? Because that would be the only way to avoid the the branding and thus, reality.

Many people have talked about why it's good business to have Starbucks on Main St. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out.

Apparently it does. :confused3:thumbsup2

And a Nescafe coffee to wash down the Nestle TollHouse Cookies and Edy's Ice Cream Sandwich :lmao:

And then they could hop on the Avengers monorail, go to EPCOT, check out the many flavours of Coke from around the world and then take a ride on Spaceship Earth presented by Siemens.

And Mission: Space sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, get your photo taken at Kodak Photo Spots, grab some wine from Weinkeller in the Germany Pavilion, hosted by P.J. Valkenberg, or perhaps some Tea from The Tea Caddy Store in the UK pavilion hosted by R. Twinings & Company Limited. Pay for your purchases from these stores using your Disney VISA.

And somehow it's Starbucks that has officially corrupted Disney and the beloved Main St.

:rotfl2:

The above posts are funny and so very true. I think that some people just simply don't like Starbucks and therefore it's not OK to add Starbucks to the parks. Others appear to be worried that the bakery will somehow transform into a Starbucks without any sign of the former bakery being there. (This wouldn't bother me because I go to Starbucks to relax.)

The truth seems to be that no one really knows what the end product will be even though it does make sense that it'll be like the one in California. The truth is also that this will be happening and all of the complaining and wailing and so on isn't going to change that.

:thumbsup2 Indeed!

The funniest to me is when people talk about corporate involvement in Disney World and say "Walt wouldn't have wanted this!!!!!"

It's like they're just choosing to ignore the fact that Kodak's involvement in the Disney Parks began when Disneyland first opened and, gasp, Walt was alive.

:thumbsup2 Walt was a business man first and foremost. He might have been a visionary and creative man but he was also interested in a profit. If he wasn't, Disneyland would have been entirely free.

Walt would have listened to his patrons. People have been complaining about the coffee on property for years. It is certainly something I feel Disney has really dropped the ball on. Now they are finally doing something about it. Starbucks is the largest Coffee Chain in the USA and apparently, the most popular so Disney chose them.

Many people seem to ignore that fact that Disney has chosen Starbucks, Starbucks hasn't come and bull dozed their way into Main St and placed a flag claiming MSB as their property.

LOVE the homemade Edy's Icecream sandwich. :cool1:

what definition of homemade has anything to do with that sandwich? unless homemade means using mass market commercial products in a mass market commercial kitchen to make something. whatever the opposite of homemade is what that sandwich is.

:thumbsup2 So do I! I have no problem without outside sponsors and brands coming into Disney. They're not "home made" but if I want that, I'l head for a tiny bakery or ice cream shop where I live, not head to Disney World which is a huge corporation within itself!

ITA! I don't mind the change at all. WDW + Starbucks = :cool1:

Seriously? That is really bad. Walt would not have liked that.
Just a quick bit of trivia ... all of the following were sponsors / lessees in Disneyland when the park opened in 1955. These were brands that were visible, with signage or brand identity in or on the various attractions, shops and restaurants in the park on opening day (back when Walt was very much alive).

  • Richfield
  • Bank of America
  • Carnation
  • Coke
  • TWA
  • Kodak
  • Fritos
  • Monsanto
  • Pendelton
  • Pepsi
  • Aunt Jemima's
  • Santa Fe
  • Swift
  • Timex
  • Upjohn
  • Chicken of the Sea
  • Western Printing and Litho
  • Hollywood Maxwell Intimate Apparel
  • Town Square Realty
  • Kaiser Aluminum
  • Ruggles China & Glass Shop
  • Grandmas Baby Shop
  • Sunny View Farms Jellies & Jams
  • Blue Bird Shoes for Children
  • Ellens Gift Shop
  • Gibson Greeting Cards
  • Jewelry Store, Random Parts Inc
  • Wonderland Music
  • Wurlitzer
  • Maxwell House Coffee
  • Bekins
  • Dutch Boy Paints
  • Puffin Bakery

I think it's pretty hard to make an argument that Walt would not have liked a Starbucks sponsorship at WDW when he was okay selling Blue Bird kids shoes, Gibson Greeting Cards, Maxwell House coffee, and having both Coke and Pepsi in the parks.

:earsboy:

Yes but... but... but Starbucks is evil! :lmao: Nice list :thumbsup2 There are countless sponsors throughout Disney, Starbucks isn't the first brand to come into the parks.
