Probably should have just bought a magnifying glass :lmao:

They certainly can be.. You really have to shop around to get a decent price.. I just got glasses about a month ago and they ran me around $269, I think.. Ouch!

Mine will be $500. Ouch. But I did get the Verilux lenses with the no glare coating along with rather expensive frames. So I know it is my own dang fault. But that is what my current ones are & I do like them.

I haven't gotten new ones in 4 years & my prescription is a lot stronger this time. These had better last a real looong time.

I just have spent about $1000 on myself, and two sons with new glasses and check ups............ouch!!:scared1:

We've used http://www.zennioptical.com the last few years. The glasses take about 2 weeks to arrive and are nab on as far as prescriptions. The frames look really nice... they may not be quite as durable as typical retail places, but at about $40 (including frames, lenses, antiglare, and shipping), I'm not complaining!

what, nobody is questioning the fact that it is all a scam?

What kind of glasses are you looking for? Do you just need readers? You can buy those pretty inexpensivley. I have many, even though I also have prescription ones, too.

I am thinking about trying zenni optical, too, but am worried that the frames won't look good on me once I get them since I can't try them on first. I am shopping around for new glasses now and I agree---too expensive.

When you're vision is 20-280, you really can't question. It kills me to see the online deals, but most don't actually make the lenses in the thickness that I need them. Or if they do, I literally end up with the super thick old fashioned lenses. And I'm too vain for that.

Now my need for designer frames is a whole different story. :rotfl:

My glasses just cost me $475. The frames were $139. The rest of the price is the lens. It is very expensive, but I have no choice. I could not see without the glasses.

Yes, very expensive proposition ! Mine were about $350. after my $100. AARP discount, the exam was an additional $75. I only have one set of eyes, so don't trust ordering thru internet site unseen. I hadn't had new glasses in 4 yrs. so did splurge a little w/semi rimless, progressive, transition, non glare and scratch resisitant. :goodvibes

You are preaching to the choir! I have 20/400 vision and need bifocals, yes, I am blind as a bat thank you very much, so my lenes alone are $500!!! :faint: I have to get the composite lenses or I look like I am wearing coke bottles!

I wouldn't mind trying zenni for a "back up" pair of glasses - cause if mine break I'm up the creek - but I really don't see how they could get the positioning of the bifocals correct since they need to be in a different level depending on the frames..

It's really gotten bad. I am due for new contacts and if my prescription changes, I'll also have to get new glasses since I wear those every evening.

I'm afraid to find out how much that will cost and I'm trying to squeak by on what I have until next years flex spending kicks in since I've used this years up.

Zenni optical :thumbsup2

My mom was going to pay $500 at the doctor for hers (progressive lens bifocal, non-designer frame). I told her that was crazy. She was skeptical but ordered from Zenni and paid $80 total I think. She absolutely loves them and has ordered two more pair since.....1 for home, 1 for work, 1 for her purse.....and she still is 50% cheaper than the pair from the eye doctor. What a scam :sad2:

DH has gotten several pair and they always come out to about $25 since he doesn't have a real difficult prescription. Love Zenni:goodvibes

Try Costco -- my last pair of eyeglasses from my ophthalmologist's office were $300+ (and I was re-using my old frames!)

I just got progressive bifocals with thin lenses and no glare and every other option as well as prescription bifocal sunglasses with all the same specifications for $450 total at Costco. VERY happy.

I have a pretty complicated prescription, so I was concerned, but everything worked out great. They have an optometrist on site, but I already had my scrip from the doc, so I dealt with the technician at the counter who took all the measurements and placed the order. They were ready within a week.

The frames were pretty much all <$125, and most under $100 -- designer names.
