Good Car Rental Rates!!

I've read posts that the days of good air fare are over. Is that true for car rates too? The first and last time we rented a car was October 2004. I've been checking the car sites and the best rate for a ten day minivan rental this October (19th - 28th) and the best I have found was Dollar at $459 with all fees and taxes...that's about $200 more than it cost us in 04. I've checked mousesavers and I seem to get the same rates with or without the codes. Am I doing something wrong or are these rates the new reality this year?? Any advice from the rental pros is appreciated.

hotwire. paid $280 for 8 days just last week from avis!

hotwire only uses top rental car places. got avis both times I've been to orlando in the last 3 months

hi - just got an email from national today that there are good rates if you join the emerald club which is free for a limited time!!! it worked for us - we are getting a great 2 week rate on a minivan in MT this summer!!!

Whenever I travel, I check out rentalcodes.com I have always gotten a great rate no matter what I needed.

Absolutely, without uestion -use PRICELINE. I just rented an SUV out of Tampa for $18/day(plus tax, one week rental total of about $180). I've seen prices out of Orlando for full-size at about the same price. Before bidding, go to biddingfortravel.com(hope I can post that?) -you will find posts of successful bids. Good Luck!
