Next week while we are lat SSR my dad and my 8yo son would like to play a round of golf.

In order for them to get the DVC discount do I or my husband have to be with them or can I just book them a tee time?

Also, do you know if there is an age restriction for the course? Just wanted to double check to see if ds was going to be able to play.

I found this on the unofficial Disney Golf website:

On the 18 hole courses, where the use of riding golf carts is mandatory, you must be at least 16 years of age with a valid driver’s license (not a “learner’s permit”) to be able to drive the carts. Thus, if you do not meet this requirement, you must be playing with an adult who does. On the Oak Trail 9 hole walking course, there is no minimum age to play unescorted. However, there is a reasonable expectation that you can play golf, know the basic rules of the game and will be respectful of others in your foursome, so as to not interfere with their enjoyment of the round. Thus, there is some discretion on the part of the master starter relative to allowing you to play and of course, parents or guardians should use appropriate discretion to ensure that minors are mature enough to play on their own.

I do know that if you are not a foursome, they will match you up with other golfers. Lake Buena Vista course is an 18 hole course.

awesome! thanks so much! He has only ever done 9 holes and told me today that he was "excited and up for the challenge of playing 18" My mom gets mad because the boy is a better golfer than she is and she has been doing it much, much longer than him. Well see what they decide.

There are four 18 hole golf courses and one 9 hole (Oak Trail). There is not an age limit on the courses. There are some 8 year olds that are decent players who are familiar with golf rules and etiquette and then there are 8 year olds that haven't played that much yet, are still mainly beginners or just beyond the beginners stage, and don't know that you should fix divots and not walk in the line of someone's putt and other rules of etiquette. If he is the latter, you should avoid the 18 courses unless you plan to play in the afternoon when there are few groups going out to play. In the morning, they send out foursomes, meaning you will be hooked up with two others and those two others and the foursome behind you will be expecting that the other players in the morning are not beginners, are familiar with the rules of golf, and know golf etiquette.

The 9-hole Oak Trail "executive" course Is walking only (they rent pull carts) and is the course that is usually heavily occuppied by kids, beginners or those just beyond the beginners stage .

The DVC discount requires the member to be one of those playing for anyone to get the discount. Also, the member must buy a $50 annual DVC golf card to then get any doscounts. If you are only going to play one round it is not beneficial to buy the discount card -- to truly get a discount you have to play enough so that the discounts eventually exceed the cost of the annual card.

This information helps immensly! He is what I would consider an intermediate golfer. My parents live on a golf course and my dad takes him out to play their course. He has been in golf camp for the past 3 years also. I personally think that he would do better on one of the 9 hole courses based off of what you stated, but I am going to leave it up to my dad to make that decision since he is the "pro".

Just wanted to throw this out there if you are Prem AP holders - the Oak Trail Golf course is FREE!!

In June my 6yo DS and DH hit up Oak Trail almost every day!! It's perfect for the younger set. We are going again in Nov. and DS was already talking about his golfing time with daddy. :)

also if you have the extra add on to your park tickets that lets you go to the waterparks, you can also use one of the credits for a round of golf. (not sure if it's the 18 or 9 hole course).

Figures this is the year we don't have an AP!

Sorry to highjack the thread, but does anyone know if there is a driving range at any of the courses? My DH loves to hit a "bucket 'o balls" and we will be there in January.

Thanks all!

I know the 9 hole Oak Trail has one because it's hooked onto one of the 18 hole courses (Magnolia I think).

Be sure to go into the clubhouse and look at the old photos they have.

At LBV, proceed towards the first tee. At the tee itself the cart path forks, left is first tee, right is ninth green, straight is the range.

Magnolia, proceed past 1st and 10th tees, cross the bridge and it's ahead on the right.

Palm, it's right at the first tee.

Fantastic! This is wonderful. Thank you so much for the prompt replies, everyone! :goodvibes
