Golf Membership?

Anyone do this?
I am considering buying the $50 membership. We have one trip planned but we also own a home in Orlando. It seems that most of the local courses are really expensive without FL resident status, but with this, I could use the membership rates when I am there, even when not staying on site.
Any other ideas?

We bought the Golf membership this June during our trip and it paid for itself immediately. Considering that the "Resort Rates" for playing run anywhere from $95-180, it does not take long to make up. Remember that the DVC discounts only apply to regular rates.

In our case, me, DW and DS all play. In June all 3 of us played Eagle Pines for $50 each (that paid for the membership by itself). Then DW and I played Palm for $50 each.

We were back in December and DS and I played Oak Trail for around $15. DW and I played LBV for $50 each.

The only caveat to watch out for is that you have to play after 10 am. This has not been an issue for us as DW prefers to wait until after the initial rush of morning golfers have passed. Besides, I'm not exactly a morning person anyway. We played LBV at 10 am on the nose and it was like have our own private course.

btw, Oak Trail you can play anytime.

If you play when you go, and you don't mind the 10 am rule, it is a fantastic deal. You don't even have to pre-order it. Buy it at the clubhouse when you check in for your round.

He would most likely be put in with a three-some or a couple. When DH & I have played we've had singles put with us and it was a lot of fun. I thought it might be awkward, but everyone we've played with at Disney has been very nice & friendly. Must be that Disney Magic! This trip we played as just a couple at LBV, there was supposed to be another 2-some to go out with us, but they never showed.

Any more rumors on how many courses WDW will have going forward?

Last I heard two of the premier courses are being lost to development.

Eagle Pines has already closed (that's why we played there in June) Osprey Ridge is scheduled to close in 2010 (possible 09 I heard) So we're planning to get to Osprey this spring. Four Seasons bought the land and is going to build a new resort and golf course there.

Our last DVC golf membership was used over two trips 11 months apart. We got 32 rounds out of the membership, so I guess that it pretty handily paid for itself. The membership is vaild for a year and it doesn't make any difference if you are staying on property or not, so when you are in your Orlando home you should have the same DVC golf benefits as when you are staying on site.
