I am thinking of buying my DH a greens Fee or two for his birthday so he can golf while we're in Hilton Head.

Anyone have any experience with golf in HH? Does DVC HH have any affilitations for discount greens fees?

I called Last Minute Tee Times and they said they had access to 18 area courses and they usually got at least some tee times for all of these courses for the next day.

Any recommendations for which HH courses are nice? We have driven by Hilton Head National on the way before and it looks good on the website--has anyone played there?

DH golfs every time we go to HH. He "only" golfs twice per trip-he'd golf more if I didn't pout about it! Right across the street are 3 courses, which are excellent courses. DH is partial to the Robert Trent Jones course; but he played the RTJ golf trail in Alabama and likes his designs. Harbourtown is very expensive, but supposedly a "must-play"-once-for any golfer. Shipyard was just OK. There's one in Hilton Head Plantation (I can't remember the name), DH hasn't played it-YET! Supposedly, the resort makes tee-times, but you don't get any DVC discount. However, when DH has had the resort make tee times for him, he's often thought his rate seemed a little cheaper than advertised.

There are several courses at Hilton Head Plantation -- I think DH and DS have only played one of them and said it was excellent. Their favorites are the Golden Bear course at Indigo Run and the Robert Trent Jones course already mentioned.

They have played Hilton Head National a few times -- sometimes the condition has been better than others, but it's usually a pretty good value.

Some of the courses off the island (Island West and Rose Hill, in particular) may seem like a better value, but not worth even the lower price because they're not kept up nearly as well.

Just a hint, unless you're going in the middle of the summer when it's unbearably hot, check out afternoon tee times -- you can sometimes get a GREAT deal that way!!! ::yes::

This is GREAT info. With 18 courses that can be booked thru Last Minute Tee times, my DH would have no idea which ones to choose. An afternoon Tee time might work very well--I'll be sure to tell him to check out the PM rates!

I'm writing down your suggestions, I especially hope he can play the RTJ course that you both suggested!

Thanks very much!
