1derfultigger,

The usual apologistas will make excuses for bad behavior but that's why it needs to be addressed from all angles: I make the CMs/mgt aware of problems with golf carts when I'm there plus offer unsolicited advice to the drivers of the aforementioned vehicles (not always appreciated but obviously desperately needed).

Isn't this about the place where Rhonda or another moderator steps in ???????

1derfultigger, trust me, I was not in any way trying to say anyone's response here is not valid. That was the least of my intentions. All I was saying is that sometimes message boards turn into "what is wrong with this, what is wrong with that, this or that is a huge problem". I love the DIS, I've been reading it for a lot longer than I've been an active participant.

It is everyone's right to have their problems. There is nothing wrong with that at all. My only issue is when people believe that problems on the Camping message board of the DIS are related to problems at large. I think BigDisneyDaddy solidified what my point was. It's not that we don't care about these problems, because they are problems. It's more of a matter of taking a problem and relating it to the general perspective.

While I enjoy these threads that discuss both the negative and positive about the Fort, I have also slipped a bit away from this forum. The main reason being that I felt there was a turn towards what happened in the general forums, where the same topics (smoking, pool hopping, etc...) seemed to happen over and over. Not that it begrudges anyone for making these topics, but it goes back to my original point that sometimes we make our own personal beliefs relevant to the general public, which I have found mostly to not be true.

I hate the corner at the Meadow Trading Post, it is an accident waiting to happen. From what I've heard and seen, Disney is making an effort to correct it. I don't like the fact that underage drivers are allowed to drive the carts, but it is also something that I realize that Disney takes certain "business" steps towards.

We all want rules, we all want everyone to follow them, but I have to admit that I'm glad that Disney is one of the few places I can go and not feel like I've entered a place where my every move is watched and critiqued. Kind of sad to say, but that's one of the features that makes Disney, "Disney".

P.S. I always try to follow the rules, I just enjoy not having watchdogs :)

We don't need to step in yet. So far, this is an interesting discussion, and everybody is being respectful of each other.

I would like to see FW/Disney step in and start enforcing some rules when it comes to dangerous cart driving, kids under 16 driving, etc. But, I wouldn't want such a huge issue to be made out of it that they take away golf cart use altogether. There has to be a happy medium someplace.

I have also slipped a bit away from this forum

I hate to say but forums are a HUGE place for whiners and complainers. Their better halfs must just get sick of hearing it so they come on the forums. This is true with EVERY forum. They all have there whiners and complainers. It makes for great fodder. You try and keep sense in their conversation and then it turns into an all out whiiner and complaint fest. Some whine and complain about stuff that just makes me wonder why they even bother to camp. They whine about everything...golf carts, scooters, skate boards, skates, roller blades, dog poop, dog pee, barking, someones radio, someones kids, the grass is too high, too many pine needles, pool is to cold, pool too hot, pool too wet, campfires, no campfires, smoke from a campfire, sand is too sandy, sand is too hard, sand is too soft, concrete is too hard, concrete has a crack in it, concrete is hot, road is hot, wildlife is wild, wildlife is tame, etc...etc...etc...etc... It truly is sad.:sad2:

There, I did my whining and complaining about the whiners and complainers and I havn't even had my coffee yet this morning. :thumbsup2

hah, don't jinx me!

Really, it just seemed as every other thread was talking about golf carts, or to sum it up...

golf carts, scooters, skate boards, skates, roller blades, dog poop, dog pee, barking, someones radio, someones kids, the grass is too high, too many pine needles, pool is to cold, pool too hot, pool too wet, campfires, no campfires, smoke from a campfire, sand is too sandy, sand is too hard, sand is too soft, concrete is too hard, concrete has a crack in it, concrete is hot, road is hot, wildlife is wild, wildlife is tame, etc...etc...etc...etc...

lol ;)

I've started to make my way back, as it seems that some of the complaining has gone away. I obviously respect everyone's right to complain or talk about the negatives, but it just seemed like the negative was far outweighing the positive. I come here because I love Disney, not because I want to talk about everything wrong with it!

Anyways, I missed you guys too ;) Ok, now I HAVE to read this board every hour again...lol

I was wonderding where you have been. I thought maybe you just wore yourself out defending the pleasures and enjoyment of camping and packed it in.:thumbsup2 That's ok though, I'll step in and do it in your absence.;)

welcome back dude, you were missed.......

hey, which loop is closest to the bus that takes you to the better trading post?

Okay, I apologize. I guess it's okay to post here as long as it's a postive praise of how wonderful and infallible FW and WDW in general is. I was going to post a few other areas of improvement I noticed while at the parks but I knew the "disney-can-do-no-wrongers" would come out in full force.

Sounds just like the email survey I just got from Disney regarding me visit. The first thing it points out in large bold print is that they are "not soliciting ideas and suggestions". So, I guess they want to know what I thought of what they had to offer but don't give a hoot what I might think would make it a better experience. Because, after all, it's simply the best place on earth and can't be improved upon.

Yea, most of my time spent here is during work hours, I do come here sometimes after work, but my DIS time definitely would not be the same withouth work..lol.

That's actually not what we were saying at all. I said multiple times that it's your right to post negative things, but if you're going to, you have to expect that some people aren't going to just agree with you. There also have been A LOT of these kind of threads, and reading the same stuff over and over does get kind of boring after a while. Funny how you missed the entire part of my post where I discussed that I think there are problems with the golf carts. This has nothing to do with "Disney can do no wrong". To be honest, I thought we were rather civil in our responses, there is no reason to snap back so harshly.

And you're absolutely wrong about the email survery. The reason Disney does not solicit ideas or suggestions is because if Disney then implements it, people could sue Disney claiming they came up with the idea. It's not that they don't want to improve, or don't care, it's because they can't. It's the same reason Disney will not accept ride ideas, restuarant ideas, hotel ideas. Anything. That is the reason they say the will not solicit ideas and suggestions, not because "Disney can do no wrong" ;)

I sort of disagree with that. Lord knows, I'm not Disneys biggest fan, and laugh to myself when I see a grown man walking around with goofy ears in the parks. That being said, I've been critical here in the past (as have others). I think what the group is trying to say, is that yes, there is a problem, and yes, we all know there is a problem, however Disney probably won't do anything about it. Send them an email to the one I posted yesterday.... see what happens ( I haven't heard back from mine). They do care, and they do listen..... I personally would love to hear what you think might be improved. If enough people email them, you will see changes.

Ever considered that it may not be the complaints that ultimately take away the carts for everyone but more likely when someone gets badly hurt (or God forbid - worse) that does them in?

Ya know, I think I started this thread off with a note to everyone that it may seem, initially, that I was doing nothing but being negative or "whining" as some of you have put it. And, my intent was to get that out of the way and eventually post a nice trip report of our 8 days at FW, which, we enjoyed very much despite a few bad apples we had to put up. I guess there's no need to bother though since I'm now classified here as a whiner that would complain about cracked cement as much as something as dangerous as misuse of a motor vehicle in a crowded area with young children. I resent being reduced to that. So much, Rhonda, for everyone being respectful of each other. So, maybe this will put an end to this thread. But, it matters not because I'm taking my ball and going home like the whiner I am.

sigh :(

Did my great return to the Camping forum really have to start with this thread? lol

1derfultigger, don't take it so harshly. No one is calling you anything. We all enjoy the discussions here, but sometimes people aren't going to agree with you. If someone had actually called YOU a whiner, than Rhonda would have done something about it.

Seriously, I think you need to grab one of FtWildernessGuy's Kungaloosh's, take a sip, relax, and enjoy the forum.

I for one would love to hear you trip report :)

P.S.

People have been badly hurt on the carts. It has happened in the past, it happens now, and it will happen in the future. I myself have been involved in 4 accidents/incidents with the golf carts in the 25 years or so we've been using them.

When I was 6 my parents turned their back and I climbed into the golf cart, put my foot on the pedal, and slammed it into a tree. When my brother was 8 he was riding on the back with a laundry basket when a friend of ours took off in the cart too fast and he flew out the back and hit the cement. When my two young cousins visited a couple years ago, one of them decided to try to jump off the cart as it was moving and cut up the whole side of his body. And 3 years ago, while making a U-Turn, an ex-girlfriend of mine wasn't hanging onto the edge and flew out the side of the cart, hitting her head on the street. We had to go to the hospital and she had to get a brain scan and had a massive bruise on her elbow.

It's a moving vehicle, accidents are bound to happen. But once again, it's not like random golf carts are roaming the Fort crashing into everything. Gotta put everything into perspective.

I'm having a hard time finding where you were compared to people complaining about cracked cement......
