I just want to be sure I have the most up to date information.
DH, DD and I are the DVC owners. We have a two bedroom villa booked for us and our friends. Their family would like to to DDP, but we do not. They are out with their kids at the parks all day long, purchasing food at the parks but we will utilize the room a lot and buy groceries.

Is it still true that in order for any of us to purchase the Disney Dining Plan, we ALL have to purchase it and it be the SAME dining plan?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, all of you will have to be on the same plan since you'll be in a 2 bedroom. So if they want dining plan, you will have to buy it as well.

A solution would be to book the trip as a one bedroom and a separate studio. It takes more points, and you aren't guaranteed that the units will be sharing the connecting door, but you could each have the DDP or not.

Remember that the DDP was not designed for the way that most DVCers travel, it was designed by Disney resorts as part of a package fo cash guests, who rarely have multiple families in one unit, or have guests arrive/leave during a trip. THe DDPs were made available to DVC by a special agreement after the fact, and follow the same rules.

You don't have any simple solution on this one, I'm afraid. Good luck.

Your points, your rules - no DDP. You should not be forced to buy something you don't want.

I don't use the DDP, it just does not work for our family anymore. So I offered friends the choice. They could stay in our 2 BR, or they could pay me, at a rate of $12 per point the difference in points of doing a 2 BR or a 1 BR and a studio, plus they would pay the price of the DDP. When we did the math, it would cost a family of 2 adults, 2 kids about $1200 to stay in a studio and purchase the DDP. They decided that they could eat pretty well on $1200 for week, and would probably not spend that much.

If this was my reservation...I'd do what Chuck suggested.

Break down the ressie into 1 bedroom and a studio. They can stop by and hang out with your family at night or at breakfast in the family room/kitchen of your 1 bedroom when they aren't in the parks or using the dining plan.
Then you aren't forced to buy the dinning plan and still have the full kitchen to make the meals you want make inhouse.

Good luck on your decision.

Another possibility is for your party to utilize as many restaurants as possible using the DVC discount OR....

get a Tables in Wonderland card for the discount that I think is 20%.

I totally agree! We find the DDP costs us significantly more than just using the TIW card, and we would NOT be getting DDP to please free guests.

The real solution to this is to book your trip as a 1 bedroom and a studio and request that they be near each other. That way, they can have the studio and get the DDP, and you can have the 1 bedroom and enjoy your kitchen.

Totally agree that you should not feel obligated to buy the DDP because of them.

Are some of these replies based on the subject line? Confused.

I don't think the OP feels obligated to do anything. Not one bit. OP? She is just making sure there isn't some DDP rule change that she's missed.

As the member, the decision is yours. Personally I'd look at the length of stay and dining options I did plan to use and decide if it's worth you getting the DDP also. It sounds like you're done that and don't feel it offers any value to you so I'd pass if that's the case. You could get 2 studios or separate rooms. You might also look to see if free dining is available then for a cash reservation and decide if getting a room just for the free dining is worthwhile.
