Will be going to WDW Aug 29- Sept 5 04. What are the crowds like? I will be staying 2 nights at an off site hotel. And 5 nights Boardwalk Resort. Concierge room. Can someone tell me what the weather might be like?
I am sure I will have more questions later but that is it for now.

Very warm and humid. The crowds will not be too bad because schools will be back or going back very soon. It will most likely rain every afternoon for a while. Grab your poncho and enjoy.

Hi we went last week of August last year. The crowds were not bad at all. I think you may have a little more during the labor day weekend (we left right before it started) but then they will clear out for the last few days of your trip. Weather was great, it was hot but not unbearable. I am not a heat person either. Out of 9 days, I only remember one day it being really HOT, and then we just took a pool break every afternoon. Usually around the same time each day, late afternoon the clouds would roll in and you would get a big storm. It really cooled things down, got very windy. We just brought our umbrellas and kept on moving. I would do August again, we had a blast. The Boardwalk area is a great place to stay. We were at the Beach Club. The pool there looks awesome. Have a great time.

I have been that period twice, including 2003. The crowds are great, but will get heavy on the weekend as you leave the day before Labour Day. The hotel got noticeably more noisy, WL, but we were still able to avoid lines by going early to the parks.
The weather is hot and humid. Both times I bought raincoats, we never used them in 2001 and we used then once in 2003. However, we did take afternoon breaks right around the time the rain tends to fall. I would go that time again.

Ive been the past two Augusts during the time frame you mentioned.

1...Very Humid. Like walking outside and getting hit with a wet sponge. Its gonna rain at least 20 mins a day. Buy a poncho and keep it with you. That way you can slog on through it.

2...Hot.....Drink lots of water.

3...Crowds...It will get very crowed over Labor day weekend.
Roll with the punches and be nice to the CM's. You might be rewarded. AFter Labor day it will thin out again......

4...Hours...They will be reduced. Use the EE to your advantage. It works out really good. Look for E-nights. We missed it by one day so we didnt get one while we were there...

5...leaving...I didnt want to do it. I just want to move there and call it home for real...

We went the 3rd week of August and

1) It was very hot but we handled it
2) LOTS of rain - LOTS and LOTS - but I think it was more rainy all summer last year than usual
3) We had 2 eride nights that were early (7 and 8pm start times) which were awesome cause we have young kids. I'm not sure if there were any eride nights that last week of August.
4) My first time there in the summer since I was a kid (my trips are usually during slow times) but it didn't seem crazy to me. We used Fastpass for the things we had to do and that worked.

We had a great time!

We'll be arriving 8/13 for a 9 day stay. I'm hoping crowds won't be too bad at that time. Can't wait!

Thinking that it may be a good idea to make it 2 weeks later going Sept 12 for one week. My sister is worried about hurricanes. Should I tell her there is no need to worry or keep my dates? Saturday should be our free day to hit what ever park that we did not have enough time to go to. We leave Sunday afternoon. The last at the park will be Friday. hoping the croweds dont hit tell Saturday for the holiday, or is that wishful thinking.

We were there also the third week in Aug. last year. Very rainy is a huge understatement:eek: I've been in late Oct., early Nov. and our last trip was mid-Dec. We are going back on Aug. 13. It will be hot, humid and wet. But at least I won't need mittens. The parks are starting to have shorter hours after the third week-end. But, that is really only MK. Go and have a great time.

I would switch to the later weeks if I were you. And hurricanes wont be any more likely then than earlier. The hurricane season is June to October. The weather may be a little cooler though.

There were no e-nights in that period last year. And crowds were fine up to the Friday before Labour Day.

We have been in August in 02, We said we would never ever, go back at that time of year. Imagine taking a shower and walking outside. uuuuggghhh you need another shower. Gross humidity. That being said.. We got a great airfare from Southwest in August 03, and back we went again. And had a great trip. It was horribly hot. But we had a totally differant kind of trip. It was our 4th trip in 18mts. So we did not have to see anything in particualr. We took our time somtimes not leaving the pool till 4pm or so. Had a really good time.
We are going this August 5 days Universal. You can do Universal in 2 days. We are staying 5. and will do they same thing relax and do a few things a day, no lines, no rushing.
So if you are really going to want to see everything and tour till you drop. I would not hesitate and move the trip up to September. It will still be hot but crowds will differ dramatically. Yes, the Southern schools are back, But trust me it is still quite crowded then. September will be much better. Good Luck!

We've been going in August for about 12 years now. Hubby is a teacher so it's the only time we can take an extended vcation, we usually stay between 2-3 weeks. We always loved the end of August, but for the past couple of years have had to go earlier due to the kids starting school earlier (HATE it! Since I had been in school we always started after Labor Day, but this is a whole different story!;) Anyway, the crowds are not bad because a lot of schools are already in session. Weather has been on and off. The past couple of years we have hit rain, but other times we didn't get much. It really depends on the year. Yes it is hot and some people don't like that. We never minded the heat, but then we are there for a long visit, so we don't feel the need to do everything. If it was a perfect world we could go when the parks are empty (although we DO go other times of the year and it's getting so that NO time is exactly empty!) and during the perfect weather season, but because this is life you have to go when you can. Drink plenty of water, don't try to do everything, and go with a good attitude. You will do fine.

Have a Wonderful Vacation!!!

I want to thank everyone with hints. We did rebook ourt trip. now going Sept 12-19. 1st 2 days will be exploring Orlando and then driving to see sisters daughter in Tampa. I have 5 day at Disney World Sept 14- 19. Boardwalk here we come.

Call me crazy but I will be staying at at the Boardwalk Resort. We have Congiere room 2 beds and a sofa sleeper. There will be 6 adults in the room. I now I am crazy but that is what we are doing. Can someone tell me about the sofa sleeper. I was thinking of bring a air matterss with us. Has anyone used one of them on the sleepers?

Crowds are really decent at that time, its my favorite time of the year to go---hardley any waiting.

This August 21 - 27, 2004 will be our first trip in the Summer (we did go mid Sept on our first WDW trip in 1998). We usually go in either October or December.

I've been very worried about the weather and crowds compared to the other times we've gone but this thread has actually made me feel better.

This is an 'extra' trip since we have APs and are DVC members and it's my first 'girls only' trip!:) DH will stay home and work and watch our dogs!!

I hope it goes smoothly!

Definately a great time to go, it usually rains every day- around 4:00- 4:30 but its only like a half hour or so and its done- we are also planning a girls only about that same time - have a great time! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:
