I'm 30 years old and I contracted mononucleosis in November. This is my second time having it, had it when I was 19 as well. Guess I'm special.
Anyway we're planning a family trip to WDW this May, and even though I feel much better than I did during the first few months of the illness, I still feel fatigued, weak and sick at times. I have some days where I almost feel recovered then I'll have days feeling sick again. So it's been 4 months now, and our trip is in 2 months, And if I feel the same way then, I think I will have to post pone our trip.
My question is has anyone else had mono linger for so long? And does this gradually get better to where in another 2 months I can expect to be almost normal, at least normal enough to handle a week long vacation??
Any advice is appreciated!

I think the biggest thing to get over mono is to rest..there really is nothing else that can be done for it. So, are you getting lots of rest currently? I had mono a few years ago so I know exactly what you are going through. I would think you would be feeling somewhat better by May but you never know really mono varies case by case...if you do go dont overdue it.

Yes, I get as much rest as humanly possible. I don't take naps durning the the day because then I can't sleep at night..But I try to sleep at least 8-10 hours, even though when I wake up I still feel tired...Did you also experience symptoms on and off for an extended time?

If you do wake up and still feel tired if its possible to sleep more you probably should. I honestly was sleeping at least 14 or 15 hours a day..for a good 2-3 months. I remember when I started feeling well and took a chance on going out I was way off and almost ended up fainting, so apparently I was not over it yet and I overdid it. The symptoms really go away over time..even after you take a blood test that offically says you are over mono, you still need to take it easy since it really does a number on your immune system.

Thanks for the reply, that's really good advice..I guess I never considered just to keep on sleeping. I think I'll give it a try. I'll I can say is Mono sux, I'd rather have the swine flu or have broken a bone, which would've healed by now!

I just returned from WDW with mono this Saturday. I got sick in early January so I've been slowly getting better but I would mostly advise not to overdo it. I didn't take any naps or extra rest time and am paying for it now! I wanted to have the "perfect vacation" and didn't want to slow anyone down so I think I definitely pushed myself too hard. Now I feel like I did in the beginning all over again.

Keep in mind there are first aid stations in the park with cool, quiet places to lie down. If you start feeling unwell but can't get back to your resort or hotel, they are always an option!

Good luck! And go easy on yourself.:goodvibes

That really sux, same thing happened to me, I started feeling better in early December, then didn't take it easy and relapsed. Now here I am March 2nd, and slowly recovering again.

My dh was layed up over 10 mos...years ago, SLOW down and take it easy....it can linger and really takes a toll....Feel Better..:grouphug:

I had mono that lasted a little over a year, after having it a few months earlier for the standard 6 weeks. It was awful. Take it easy, I hope you feel better by the time your trip rolls around.

It's funny, this pregnancy makes me feel like I have mono... bleccch!

I hope the symptoms were not that bad for the whole year, were you able to lead a somewhat normal life during that time? Seems like a long time to have mono.

I had mono when I was 37. I used 31 consecutive days of sick leave before my doctor cleared me to return to work (and that was an office position). For at least a month I was averaging about 18 hours of sleep daily.

However, I would strongly suggest rental of an ECV for the entire length of the trip. Most people tend to walk 8-12 miles per day while at WDW.

DH (when he was just D-boyfriend) got mono a few weeks, maybe a month, before we went on our very first trip to WDW together. Thankfully he felt well enough to casually walk the parks most of the time but we just took it slow.

I hope you are feeling better soon OP!

I wish. I had to be homeschooled for my junior year of high school!
