DBF and I are just as crazy about NYC as we are about WDW, so we're thinking of taking a day trip to NYC in the second week of our holiday. It would cost around £120 each for a direct return flight from MCO-JFK. I know it seems a little extravagant, especially since we've already been to NYC twice this year but it's just so tempting! Any thoughts?

Na, just do it! Take a helicopter ride over the skyline, or if you want something free, check out the Indian burial site, on 290 Broadway btwn Duane & Elk Sts.

Or just grab a Welshes and watch the world go by? Go to Wall Street and rub the bull's bits (it works - we have had fantastic luck!)

Hope the weather in Manchester is better than Cambridge from a Northern export.

Listen, while your young, no kids, and you can afford it, i say DO IT,
because one day you won't be all of the above:rotfl::rotfl:

We are tagging a week there at the start of our hols and to be honest, any excuse to get there is a valid one. Go for it, I know what you mean aboutliking it as much as Disney, they are both truly fantastic places.

Yep , just go for it. I've often thought of visiting DC for a day having never been but never just gotten round to making it happen.

Travel light , in and out the airports and have a blast! , just think it can cost you a lot more than that to swim with a dolphin for a few minutes at Discovery Cove :lmao:

What a fantastic comparison :thumbsup2

Go for it! :thumbsup2. We once did a day trip to visit friends in Indiana, we got back to the ‘world’ around 2 am the next day but it was worth it!

That sounds like something I would do- go for it!

Who are the flights with?

Great idea Lauren but how would you resist a night at the Palace when you're there ;)

Thanks for the tips. :thumbsup2 The weather in Manchester is surprisingly ok this weekend, for a change!

A good point very well made. ;)

Sounds great! It's good to do a something a little crazy every now and then.

Sounds fab, how long would it take to get there?

Debs x

The flight time is around 2.5 hours- not too bad!

That sounds like something I would do- go for it!

There are loads of carriers for this particular route- the best prices seem to be with United and Delta but the best times are with JetBlue.

Haha, good point Luke! I haven't really got the time to fit in an overnight stay, as much as I'd like to. We're planning on another visit next April though, so I can get my Palace fix then. :goodvibes

Ok now you've got me thinking. Do you know how long it takes to get from La Guardia aiprort into manhatten? And can you get a lot done in a day. We have never been to NYC but I have always wanted to go.

Looking at the Jet blue flights and it looks like you could get a full day with the late departure. I just need to get an idea of how long it would take to get to and from the airport to see if its worth it.

As General Panic said it works out the same as a day at discovery cove.

I'd stay overnight. Even if you make it a really long day - it's going to be tight. Arrive at airport an hour before, so leave Orlando hotel say 30-45 minutes before that. Then at least an hour from the gate to Manhattan, plus the 2.5 hour flight...that's 5 hours already. Do the same in reverse - 10 hours. All you need is for the outbound flight to be delayed by an hour or two and the whole trip goes to pot. With an overnight stay in NYC, you wouldn't need to worry.

Thanks for the info. Might just have to make a trip to NYC part of another trip. I would not want to be worried about time.

I'm such a bad influence! :) LaGuardia doesn't have as many (if any?) public transportation options to Manhattan, which is why I would rule it out for this particular trip. Having said that, it is the closest airport to Manhattan out of the three main airports. We got a taxi there in April and it cost $30 without tip and the journey was approximately 30 minutes.

I do see your points and I share your reservations. I just don't know if we can realistically squeeze in an overnight stay. Choices, choices!

Thanks we would have taken a taxi in anyway. But I think looking at cost of adding on the option of an over night etc its probably not an option. Going to look again at a trip for next year.

If you've never been then I'd definitely recommend a longer trip. We would be ok with going for a day as we've been several times and know our way around. It's an amazing city so I hope you get to go next year. :)
