Going to need to walk a reservation for next Fall - 2 questions :)

I'm so sorry that this is happening to you! This is exactly one of those times when you walk, that just makes no sense and gets you thinking :scratchin I feel like I'm the one that was the jinx since I was really the one that pointed out that walking isn't 100% and I've seen it not work in various instances.

Keep us posted how it all works out. I'm sure in the meantime you are still trying to modify. Maybe that will have success later today

As an aside, I do wonder if Disney will make a policy change to stop walking -- not because it's against the "rules" but because I could see how all of these thousands of modifications create a data base/complexity challenge. Disney has to keep a record of every modification and every modification creates a new record to a data base. But, that's a whole 'nother topic for discussion.

I remember the days when you had to call exactly at 9:00 am 11 months out (and maybe daily thereafter) to book reservations. 😬 I don’t imagine they will eliminate walking unless they can come up with a better plan.

Of course, I don't think you jinxed me! I'm happy that you gave honest information. That is what we need.

Yes, I am still trying to modify. I will continue to try throughout the day. There was another thread about this somewhere. I think in the meantime, I will find it and go hop on it to see if anyone else is having issues.

Thanks!!!

Since you're a member of the DIS since 2001 I assume you have been a DVC member longer than me. I've been a member since 2006. Yup, I agree, I remember the days of booking prior to the RAT existing. The RAT (when it works :sad2:) does make being a member much easier and less time on hold with DVC MS.

I do feel that with the advent of the RAT and the spread of information on the internet that walking is more widely used by members. Purely from a programming/data base standpoint I see how this could be a challenge. IMO Disney's IT department is pretty lackluster. For a billion dollar company they certainly seem to have the worst programmers on the market. Or they just don't give a RATs @$$ about members. Again, a whole other topic.

Things have been a little wonky on the system lately with modify. I wonder if it is an IT glitch?

But, nothing should be preventing it from being changed.

This string is exactly why I wish DVC would put a limit on modifications and stop the walking. I should be able to book my trip for next October at the 11 month window without having to worry about the walkers.
Well, that’s a horse that’s been beaten to death in a number of threads. Most of the complaints are not from those who could not book anything at their home resort. The vast majority of complaints are from members who wanted in-demand rooms like AKV CL or Value or BWV std. view studios and could not book them right a 11 months.

I hope you’re able to book your trip when November rolls around.

This would be my guess Sandisw -- IT glitch.

They could easily break the walks but chose not to. All they would have to do is limit the number of changes to a reservation to like 3 or 4 . If you need to make a change to that reservation after already making the 3 or 4 chages you would then have to cancel and rebook.

What if you're just trying to book a longer reservation than 7 nights and are adding dates?

It's been argued so many times but there are no ways to change things that would not in turn have other negative impacts on owners.

I used to feel the same way until I couldn’t get my preferred room type at my home resort (Boardwalk View @ BWV) at 11 months out - the exact minute the online window opened, 2 years in a row. For now it’s really the only workaround. Trust me, I would honestly prefer not to have to deal with this for several weeks (or even months) in a row. But I’ve just decided that at this point if you can’t beat ’em join ‘em. Frustrating indeed.

Yes, DVC member since 2000. Since I primarily stay at BWV I’m not even sure I‘d mind going back to the daily phone calls. At least when I used to do that I could always get the room we wanted if calling within the first 1/2 hour of the phone lines opening! Of course I don’t know if all the BWV DVC points had been sold at that time as it was within a few years of its opening I think.

Exactly why I do it. But this is my last year trying. I'm planning on standards from here on out just to avoid the craziness and all the work it takes. The only reason I'm doing this for next year is because I had to cancel my trips this year due to Covid and there's a limited number of points I have to spend.

As mentioned, we have discussed the pros and cons of walking. Any changes will have impacts that some will like and others will not.

Lets try to stay on topic as best we can!

The only way when doing it at 11 months is if Disney takes a room out of service. It has happened but is very rare. And some times it’s reported that in a day or two it’s back.

Basically, though, it works as long as you do it at 11 months and move it before the check out day and others can book.

Think of it as you booked Room A. If you are in Room A until say July 28th, then that rooms is not bookable by anyone until August 28th because you are in it. As long as you modify before that date and move it forward, no one can book Room A ahead of you.
Thank you for that explanation. Makes sense now.

What about someone having a fixed week ? As an example only say there are only 10 studios and there are 10 people walking them, what happens when someone has a fixed week for a studio in front of you. Someone's walk is gonna get broken.

Yes, that is possible, but not all resorts have fixed weeks. OP wants a GV at BWV. No fixed weeks there.
