Going Solo....with an ECV

DH is probably not going to be able to go with me to WDW in May and the friend I invited can't go, well that is a little bit of a problem, because I have to use an ECV. Most of getting around I don't have a problem, but what do I do at the rides where you have to tranfser, do I just skip them? I dont'' really want to skip all of them, so I will have to because I need help with my seatbelt. I can't roll my pooh sized self in a WC.

Since you are using a ECV does that mean that you have some ability to walk? If so you shouldn't have much issues except those that you have to move into a wheelchair in order to get through the lines. Most of the rides you just roll right up to the ride and then transfer over into the ride. I can only think of one ride that we avoided because of switching to a wheelchair, but I can't remember which one it was (It was in Fantasy Land in the MK). It really wasn't about switching to a wheelchair either it was more to do with the rain and the length of the line. We just decided to skip it.

I don't need assistance transferring, I can do that. I could just skip Star Tours, since that is where I need the most help with my seatbelt.

Yes, I do have the ability to walk, just not long distances or uphill. My biggest issue is standing in line, I can't stand for very long.

My biggest concern is POTC, but if I get there early and there is no line, I can walk right in and get on a boat without having to wait, and they will allow me to use the elevator, because I can't use the moing walkway, because I get sort of off balance on it.

I may have to skip BTMRR because if they let me off on the opposite side, that will be a problem, because DH usually runs and gets my ECV and brings it from the other exit.

Everything else should be fine, because I can take the ECV right up to the ride vehicle or at least close by. It's not like it ismy first or last trip, so if I miss something, I can do it next time, I was just trying to prepare myself ahead.

In almost every que you will be able to stay in your ECV untill it is time to board the ride, so you should be able to do almost everything. As for POTC, they will give you a wheelchair to use in the que if you would like and then you transfer into the boat and they will have another chair at the exit that you can use to get back to your evc.

This would be my 12th trip using an ECV, that isn't a problem, my problem is that I can't roll myself in a WC, especially in the POTC and Star Tours ques.

Don't know about ST, but POTC will probably be a non option for you, this trip. You'll need to manouvre yourself through the line in a manual wheelchair, CM's aren't supposed to help. They do provide manual wheelchair but as you said; you wont make it selfpropelling.

I don't see it as a big deal skipping some rides. You'll still be able to do at least 80% of what's available. I have a mom in a wheelchair and we skip more rides then you will. Enjoy what you can do and be satisfied; you're still at Disney.

If it's a really big issue for you cancel the trip and go at a better time with someone.

Seatbelts! Pull any seatbelt out as far as it will go BEFORE you sit down. Sit. Fasten seat belt. It will then retract itself to hold you in safely.

Walker: great idea for attractions like PotC and Star Tours and, um, Space Mountain that just aren't adapted for ECVs. You actually CAN operate a wheelchair, but it WILL be difficult. Worst case, you can use it LIKE a walker - for support.

Um, what else? BTMRR - explain to the Greeter that you're alone and can't maneuver a manual wheelchair on your own. You MAY (or may not) be directed to an alternate entrance. Ditto for Tower of Terror and Rock 'N Roller Coaster. Depends ENTIRELY on the CM - but again, if not, use the WDW-proferred wheelchair as a walker.

When are you going? Maybe there is someone else on here going at the same time that can aid you in some things. Then you won't be traveling alone.

I went this december and needed to rent an ECV half way thru ( i have stamina issues)

at BTMRR you go in the side entrance which is actually the exit depending on how many trains are running you may or may not switch stations but just ask teh CM on the unload platform as if they are running 4 trains or 5 if they say 5 then tell them you need to do a round trip which means that you ride the ride twice in order to get back to the station you started in...

at POTC you park your ECV off to the side at the beginning of the ride and they have manuel chairs to use in the que... there arent really that many dips or hills in that que it was pretty easy to get thru...

at Space was a horse of a different color... you cannot use any powered chair in that que not because it wasnt meant for it but it has to do with something else... with that said though they do have manual chairs to use just like potc but unlike potc the hills in that ride are enormous it took me and my best friend to get me up those hills....
