Has anyone used public transportation from a Disney resort to Universal for just a day trip? If so, how much did it cost and how did you arrange it?

We would be at the BCV and wanting to go to Universal for just the day and am not sure if we are going to rent a car this time.
Thanks for any advice.:goodvibes

Public transportation would cost either $1.50 or $3.00 - I don't know if transfers are free - per person each way... and require you to take the bus from BCV to Magic Kingdom, then the monorail or ferry to the TTC, then one Lynx bus to downtown Orlando, then another bus from there to Universal.
Or you could rent a car for one day/24 hours.
Or you could take a taxi.
Or you could arrange for a town car.
Or you could reserve the Mears shuttle, $15 per person round trip.

note: anywhere I did not put dollar amounts, I don't know the cost, aka it varies.

We're doing Universal + SeaWorld next week and here is how I ended up with my final choice...maybe my struggle can help you out.

First, we were getting a rental car for the week but I'd like to keep the $ down and would rather avoid the hassle at the counter with luggage. I like ME.

Second, we were thinking about Lincoln Town Car service but it was $109 just RT to Universal, RT to Seaworld would have put us at over $200 NOT including tips. Too much

Third, I thought about a shuttle but that's $16 pp for $128 (family of 4), too much.

Fourth, I thought about a public transport as it is the least expensive option but the time factor would drive me nuts.

FIfth, I entertained Alamo at either WDW Car Care or the Dolphin and the prices were just bonkers.

Sixth, I thought about a MEErs taxi but they want $48 each way with tips extra, too much.

Finally, I discovered that the Grosvenor resort would pick us up at our resort the morning of our trip & drop us off after Seaworld on day 2. I feel the prices were very low considering the convenience and the current rates out there. :cool1: I just cancelled everyone else & booked 2 full days with a rental car at Dollar for $33.49/day with tax its $76.66 total. I will still need to pay $20 for parking but still come out lower than most other choices...besides, I can make a shopping trip since we're going to these parks my 2nd & 3rd days at WDW.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for sharing all your hard work with me. That does sound like a good deal. Are you saying the car rental place(Dollar) at Grosvenor would come to get you from a Disney resort hotel for you to pickup your rental car? I am sorry I am just a little confused, but the rate you got is great compared to Alamo from the Dolphin hotel.

Thanks again for sharing and I hope you have a great trip!!

I believe you can take Lynx to SeaWorld and change there also, which would be quicker.

Tiffany Town Car is $35 one way or $65 roundtrip between Disney and Universal. I have used them and if you give them a ball park time, you can call when you are ready to leave. We did this for a concert in downtown Orlando. I'm not sure how much a taxi is, but that or Mears might work best depending on how many are in your group.

Yes, they will come & get us from our hotel and then return us to wherever we'd like (Epcot that day I think) when we return the car. When I called the Grosvenor/Dollar location the lady who answered told me I could even call 2 days ahead to schedule a pickup. I REALLY hope this turns into a good way to do this. I will try and post when I get back & tell you how it worked out.

Thanks for your good wishes

Thanks so much. Yes, please post when you return as I was discussing this with DH again last night and he is leaning toward maybe just the one day rental, but can not see paying 80 plus dollars for it. Thanks and have a great trip!!:)

$80 was 2 days for us. Cut that in half & you have your 1 day rental. You can always book the day now via Dollars rental site & cancel if things change or times change or you get a better deal, no credit cards or charges necessary to reserve. The companies will even let you hold multiple reservations at once if you're not certain of what your plans are. Then when you make up your mind its easy to cancel, just pull the ressie number off your e-mail confirmation of the reservation & plug int into the website.

We just got back today and ended up using Meeers yellow cab service to save time, effort & money. We were planning on using the Grosvenor rental car but thinking the price (plus $10 to park in each park) would end up about the same we figured Meers would be OK.

We were quoted $20 each way to Sea World on the phone but the meter read $27 from Animal Kingdom. While on our way back I noticed that the meter went from $18 as we passed Downtown DIsney to $29 when we got back to our hotel (you pay for time in traffic).

Soooo, on our trip to Universal the following day day we took a Disney Bus to Downtown Disney and jumped into a cab right near the Guest Services building. The bus ride saved us over $10 each way for $22 each way even though it was 1 exit further away from WDW. I wish I knew about Downtown Disney being on the edge of property before we left for Sea World but at least I noticed it before our trip to Universal.

As for returning to WDW, there is a line of Meers Cabs waiting at your beck & call when you are ready to leave whatever park you might be at for the day.

I hope this info will be useful to someone planning a trip off property.

Thank you so much for posting this. Me and my friends were planning on doing Sea World but I told them it was going to depend if we can get a ride over there.

When we were there last month we took a Lynx bus #50 from the ticket and transportion at WDW to Sea World for $1.50 each way .It is a direct bus and runs every 30 minuets. You can also connect with the I-trolley at the Sea World stop and go to the outlet malls and other attractions. Check the web sites www.golynx.com and www.iridetrolley.com We really enjoyed our off site trip and found it very easy and cheap.
