Going from 5 people in a room to 4, then back to 5.

We are headed to an undecided Disney resort in April. It will be a resort only stay. My husband will be staying with us for one night, then going to a work event for 2 nights, then returning again for a 4th night. So it will be 2 adults 3 kids, then 1 adult 3 kids. (Kid meaning under 18). How do I make a reservation like that? On the phone? This means we have to stay in a place that holds 5, correct? Which resort are affordable and allow for 4 to 5 guests? Will him leaving for a few days save me any $? Thanks!

Off the top of my head, I would think Port Orleans Riverside would be most economical since the Alligator Bayou rooms hold 5 people.

Since you won't be paying a third adult fee for any of the nights, it shouldn't matter that your husband won't be there a couple of the nights. The cost of the room should be the same with one adult and three children versus two adults and three children. You may as well just book it as two adults and three children for all the nights. That can be done online. Be aware that the fifth sleeper rooms at Port Orleans Riverside and Caribbean Beach have a "child-size" bed for the fifth sleeper. Depending on how tall your shortest child is, that might not be enough. I don't know the size myself. I have never been in those rooms, but have read about people being concerned over the size. You should at least look into it before booking a room. The family suites at All-Star Music may be the next cheapest option.

Since room rates are based on double (adult) occupancy, I’d just book all nights as 2 adults and 3 kids. If you drop the extra adult you will not save anything.. there will be a single guest occupancy upcharge for the nights with one adult in the room.

Affordable for 5 guests non dvc would be Port Orleans Riverside or Caribbean Beach which both have rooms with a 5th sleeper murphy bed. Renting dvc points can also be cost effective.

Unless you are switching rooms to a room with a capacity of 4 on the days when it is only 4 of you, the moderate rooms that sleep 5 will be best. The nice thing is that Caribbean Beach and Port Orleans Riverside are both lovely locations for resort-only stays (we did a 2-night CBR resort only stay). I haven't stayed in their 5-person room, but the Internet says the extra bed is 63 or 64 inches long, so depending on the age/height of your kids, someone may need to sleep on the floor. As an adult, I fit on the 5th sleeper at some of the DVC resorts, which is more like the length of an ordinary twin bed. The Ft. Wilderness cabins, while remote, sleep 6 and is a great place for a resort-only stay. There's also the All-Star Music suites that someone mentioned. Unfortunately, though Art of Animation is billed as "value," their suites can sometimes be more expensive than deluxe accommodations that sleep 5. There are suites at the Hilton at Disney Springs, but there is a resort fee there. If it is resort only, does it have to be Disney? We thought Universal's Cabana Bay was really fun and their family suites are much more affordable than Disney.
