I am very interested in getting this for my family. I would like the Wi FI feature but I am clueless on what else I should look for. I don t want to say money is no issue, but I dont want to buy something and wish I had saved for the better model.

Please any guidance would be great!

I just picked up the Hero4 Black, and it is - in a word - AMAZING. We used it to do some filming for our '7 resorts in 7 days' series, and I was really impressed with the feature-set and quality. All that said - it's $500 (and that doesn't include the touch screen). It shoots 4k and does fairly well in low-light (a big plus as most GoPro's suck in low light).

Things to consider....
  • there is Hero3, 3+, and 4. There is White, Silver, and top of the line Black. Which model are you looking at? They are all priced differently.
  • pay attention to battery life. Especially with wifi enabled. The 3+ has an oversized battery option.
  • how do you plan to use the camera? Attached to your head? your chest? taped to your hand? Are you getting a drone?
  • there is no optical stabilization.
  • there is no optical zoom.
  • do you plan to be editing in 4K? Do you have a 4K monitor? Is your computer fast enough for 4K editing?
  • there is no lens cover
  • a tripod mount cost extra
  • you need to buy more than one for 3D. The 3D case is not cheap.

I have the Hero 3+ Black Edition, and am very happy with it. I used it for our trip this past Oct (vid in signature).

Good points in the above post. Also, keep in mind accessories - mem card, extra batteries, pole/and or grip.. easily another $100 +/-

Thanks for the advice. I plan to use it for typical family stuff, and my dh might use it for bike riding videos. I am wondering if the screen makes it much easier to use? I think that one of the hero 3 has the screen.

As for the 4k I have no idea what my computer can run, I will have to read up on all these features so I am more well versed in the technology.

Pete I am looking forward to the 7 and 7 even more now, Perhaps the guys would consider a separate show discussing the go pro? I know they have done a photography show and I enjoyed that.

I love the Gopro - it is such a fun little camera, but I do agree you end up spending alot of accessories - but in my opinion it is worth it. I purchased the touch screen & I hardly use the camera without it now.
