My wife and I are trying to decide when we should go to WDW. Out planned vacation for this year got cancelled and we were planning to go to WDW in 2004. We have the money saved. We have the ability to get a good discount this year or next. We are shooting for November for whichever year we go.

What's nagging me about going this year are the kids' ages. My son will be 7 in the fall and my daughter will be 9 and a half. We were there last in 2000 and this trip will probably be the last one for a while as it get harder to save and to take the kids out of school as they move past elementary school. We had decided back then on 2004 as both kids will be older and will be able and probably more willing to experience more of the rides. At present, they are not big riders and are generally cautious. The Haunted Mansion and roller coasters are things they have chose not to ride.

So, I'm having a hard time switching years as the extra year of maturity seems important as well as their chances of retaining these memories as they get older. On the other hand, there is something magical about taking young kids! See my dilemma!!! I know this will probably open the flood gates, but what do you all think?

Thanks!

Personally, I would go now since you already have the money and missed out on your other planned vacation. My way of thinking is that none of us know what the future holds so why wait. There is also no guarentee your kids will be ready for "big rides" a year and a half from now either. Plus, park admission is a lot cheaper when they are under 10 years old. I say go for it now, but that's just my opinion ;)

It's a tough decision to have to make but I know I wouldn't like to have to wait until next year. Do you think waiting another 12 months will make that much difference to the rides your children are prepred to try? I only say that as my 6 year old (now 9), and quite a few others it would seem around the same age, have taken to the bigger rides really quickly. Is there a theme park local to you that you could visit to see if there is any chance they will be a little more adventurous?

One small consideration, do I remember rightly that children's passes are for age 3-9, so next year wouldn't you have to pay the adult price for your daughter?

My personal feeling is that we should all live for today and if there's no real good reason for putting it off I would go this year. You never know another opportunity to go may come round quicker than you think. I think your children, certainly your daughter, will carry the memories for a long time.

Go and enjoy! Just returned with my DD"s - 7 and 9 - first trip with them. THey shocked me! They have always been wimpy about rides - they head for the kiddie section. They tried almost everything and enjoyed most of what they tried. The things they didn't like so much, they handled well, but just said they didn't want to repeat it. You can always close your eyes on most things at Disney and the ride itself is fine.

They did Space Mt. and THunder Mt. and loved both...shocker! Hated Splash because of the hill , but were fine on it - no tears or anything. Did all at the water park which was a big surprise too.

Take them and have fun! I felt these ages were PERFECT!

Go now Go now Go now Go now!

The kiddos are much older than mine (3 1/2 & 5) and mine are so fired up about our trip in 12 days. They've watched the DVD about 50 times and know exactly what they want to do. I was 9 the first time I went to WDW and it's a very clear memory for me now.

You will have such a great time! Book a FT package, seems like a pretty good deal!:bounce: :Pinkbounc

If I had the money saved, I'd go for it now. Why wait. Go, then come home and start saving again. That's what we do. Whatever money we bring home we put back into the savings jar so to speak. This also eliminates any commando touring. We know if we miss it this time, we are already planning next time. We are lucky enough to be currently planning our second trip for this year. Go and enjoy-- the sooner the better-- then again I have no patience to wait.
