Gnomies Gone Wild

Morning Gnomies!

It's another Monday. :headache:

I did horrible yesterday with my eating and to top it off I didn't work out. I feel like a slouch. Ah well, today is another day.

CP, I just read an excellent book. I think you'd like it. Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah. The storyline goes between present day and Russia during the 30's and 40's. It's a great story!

Morning, Gnomies!

Enjoy your day off, Jen!

Hopefully the snow won't disrupt school too much, Katie!

I will have to write down that book, LL! It sounds good. I read one you would really like called The Sugar Queen. It was just precious -- I loved every minute of it.

I'm off to the library website to request The Sugar Queen!

We are home everyone! Thanks for the warm thoughts:goodvibes

Our flight was cancelled for today... but just as I got all excited about the thought of spending another day in Florida.... they 'reinstated it' I guess they figured that they needed toget as many flights into Pittsburgh,Philly and Baltimore as possible... between the backlog after canceling 100s of flights...AND the fact that is gonna happen all over again tomarrow!

We sat next toalady who had her Sunday flight cancelled... and the earliest that she could book as of then was this THURSDAY!:scared1: But she called early this morning and there was a cancellation on our flight....but there were people being bumped everywhere while wewere waiting at MCO.

I decided I am not doing a TR for this little trip. I will however, share a few necessary facts with you all.... and a few observations....

1... most important necessary fact: Allison completely wigd out! She made herself sick... wouldn't eat, wouldn't talk, didn't want to do anything.... because she was so upset and anxious about the meet. So in the end... I decided this was all ridiculous. A nine year old should not feel that much pressure! So I asked her if whe wanted to not compete floor... since thats what she had been so stressed about. She said she was afraid to tumble... but that she didn't want to do ANY EVENT>>>NOT EVEN BEAM! So I toldher OK. I called the coach on her cell and told her Allison was scratching fromthe meet. I then called the gymand told them that I was pulling her from the program all together. If she wants to go back at the end of the school year...because she misses it....fine. Otherwise, that was fine too. I can't take seeing her so quiet and depressed all the time.

2... The parks were very crowded. 110min for ToT..... 30min IASW.... 45min HM.... not your typical early February! We managed fine... and since it was so chilly... the waits in the early am and late at night were very short. IE space mtn 5xs with no wait Sunday nite, BEFORE EMH started!

3... 44F in Florida...is MUCH colder than 44F in PA.... really.

4... The new SpaceMtn... cool games in the waiting queue to play, ride photos, and I really think its darker than it used to be in there! In the front seat I was always able to see the track, basically the whole ride... now youcan here and there... but it seems to completely disappear alot!

5... Akerhus is overated

6... Maya Grill is under-rated

7... My camera was too heavy...drove me nuts! I've taken it every trip, but for some reason this time it was like hauling around a bowling ball! I tookit day 1 and part of day 2...and thats it. We had Allisons little P&S camera and thats what we used for character pics. Between her and I ....we took less than 100 pics. And I'm OK with that!

8... I'm never travelling without my laptop again... I felt so vulnerable when flights started getting cancelled and I had no connection to figure out what to do! not to mention... my congressman died and I didn't even know!

9... WDW is better when you don't go there 3 times in 5months. I'm glad I have 7 months to miss it before I go again.

10.. DisneyQuest is a 'must do'for teens (allison enjoyed it too) and we had fun... but not something I'd recommend to any of my gnomies...except CP..cause her kids would like it.... and CP is a much 'funner' mom than I am anyway.

11... The Dining Plan didn't workwell for us this time. Allison didn't want to eat anything except ice cream(with gloves on LOL!) and I was nauseous 3 of the 5 days.... We were both 2 tired (and me queasy) we blew off Kona...the only meal I was really looking forward to (mmmmm pineapple macadamia nut pancakes...drool)

I guess thats it.
See ya all later!

Paula

Welcome home, Paula! Glad you made it back before the next round of snow!

I think you made the right decision with Allison -- if she isn't enjoying the gymnastics, what's the point? Like you said, maybe at the end of the school year when things calm down a bit she will want to go back.

I bet my kids (and husband) would love Disney Quest, but really, I start twitching just thinking about going there. I don't like arcades -- even giant, glorified ones. Maybe one day when my kids are old enough to head out on their own, they can go check it out.

I can't believe how crowded it was! That's crazy!

Welcome back, Paula! I agree, sounds like you made the right decision for Allison. Poor little monkey being so stressed out. She can always go back to it! :goodvibes I'm super surprised it was so crowded! A little time to miss WDW can be good! We'll remind eachother of this when we're jonesing for a trip this summer. ;)

I think part of the crowds was bad luck on our part. We talked to a boat CM when we took a trip to Fort Wilderness Sat. He said they only had about 9,000 guests at MK on Friday....Sat by 3pm they were up to close 30K!! Sat was our MK day. Of course they were calling for severe thunderstorms fri...and the rain did start at 3pm like they predicted. I hate to be wet, ifI can help it, which is why we tried out DQ that night.

CP you can always drop Charles and the kids at DQ...then go do a little shopping and enjoy the margarita bar in DTD:rolleyes:

Thanks C! Yes...we will probably be jonsing for one by then LOL! I was actually just thinking...now that I don't have gym meets to worry about...my weekend schedule just dramatically opened up in time for flower and garden...andi have that stinking southwest voucher to use too:rolleyes1

Well that sounds interesting. I'm sure Miss Katie would love to book another DIS meet while she's there! :)

Ugh, Paula! What are we going to do with you?? Hope it isn't anything major that needs fixing! :)

Hi Ladies!

News on the job front today! So, my manager pulls me into her office and gives me an ultimatum - you can move to a smaller store (you're not able to deal with a store our size) or you can become a fulltime jewellry associate instead....so that's what I did! I am becoming a jewellry expert by March! Let's hope this third position in the company works out!

P - I'm glad you're home safe and I hope you had fun! I'm sure Allison will perk up!

LL - I bet you're apartment looks fab! But no, after all we did in this house over the past few months I have retired my paint brush too!

Hope everyone else is taking care out there!:goodvibes:grouphug:

Paula...glad you are home safe and sound!! Ugh to the car issue that is no fun at all!! Poor Allison, but I think the right decision was made concerning her and gymnastics for now, sounds like she needs a break!

I have to agree with you...while I love Disney every single time I go, I'm looking forward to not going for awhile, although I had a dream I tried to work it out to go the first week of June the other night!

Stace...good luck with the new position at your job! I will be crossing my fingers for you!!

P, sounds like an interesting trip! I think you made the right decision about Allison and gymnastics too, sounds like she needs a break!

Stace, good luck with the new position. Painting still isn't done but Marc is going to finish it up. I don't feel bad either since he's the crazy one who wanted to paint in the first place.

I've decided that I am no longer allowed to read in bed. I was so exhausted yesterday that I was in bed by 9PM, decided to read a bit and two hours later had to force myself to shut off my light. Oy.

Oh and I've decided I really want to plan a Disney trip. I just have so many uncertain things this year that I'd hate to start planning and then have to cancel. Bah. I have serious ticker envy.

LOL!!!! That is too funny!!! I love my ticker...but right now I have so much on my plate that planning for Disney is definitely taking a backseat! I have officially started the certification process in TX and received my fingerprint cards so I have to get that done!!

We are also fighting two illnesses at my house right so of course no one is in a very happy mood LOL!1

Oh and state testing starts today...ughh....LOL

Oh well I will be glad to get home at 3:05 today LOL!

hi girls!

I want to go back to bed!

I had my hands full with Allison this morning...she had a full-on temper tantrum! She bawled at the top of her lungs fromthe time she woke up...til 10min before she left for the bus, when I finally dressed her! She was still crying when whe walked out the door.....I don't even know why:confused3

I'm not cut out for this motherhood thing:sad1:

My oldest... didn't even realize I was gone for the past 5 days

Ellie...was all excited tosee what I brought her...but then she disappeared..although she did 'friend' me on facebook... which her being on FB bothers me, because I think she's too young, but I wasn't consulted.

And I have no idea what to do about Allison.... I try to help her... but then I just seem to make things worse.

At least I have today off.... maybe I will go back to bed.

LL....I thought you were going to WDW in October??? Did I miss something???

Paula

Well that sounds interesting. I'm sure Miss Katie would love to book another DIS meet while she's there! :)

::yes:: C, you read my mind!

P, sorry the trip was not relaxing. I know you have been wanting Allison to make the decision about gymnastics for herself but it sounds like you needed to make it for her at this point. Was she worried you would be disappointed if she quit? Good idea to leave the door open for her to decide to start up again if she decides it's important to her. Glad you made it home OK.

Jen, good luck with your testing this week

Stace, good luck with the new position. Jewelery sounds like a fun place to be if you ask me.

Another snow day in Iowa...UGH!

oh P...what a rough morning! We have days like that around our house. Patrick really likes the counselor at his school so a few days, I have walked him to her office just to get him in the building. One day she was with another kid but said he could wait so I left him sitting outside her office in tears. Better than the day she had to hold onto him to keep him from running after me when I left!

My mom often says "parenthood isn't for wimps!"

At least Ellie is allowing you to see what she is doing on FB. We have a neighbor kid who was over last week and telling me about his fishtanks on FB...he is 6! I thought I must have misunderstood so I did a search for him and sure enough, he is there, so is his 5 year old brother!

Thank goodness for a day off, sounds like you need a mental break...have a drink with lunch and take a nap ;)

Sorry about your rough morning, P. I'd put a kibosh on the whole facebook thing but that is just me. I think kids are doing things like that younger and younger these days. It's scary.

I do not think I'll be going to Disney in October. I really missed Marc this trip and want to go with him. I loved January so we might be going in January 2011. I just have no idea if we'll get to go. With us trying to have a baby soon, everything is up in there. So we'll just have to see.

P sorry to hear you had such a rough start to the day. Sounds like Allison is going through some kind of growing pains...I hope things get better soon  Here's hoping your day got a little better!:goodvibes

I don't know when exactly I'll be going to Disney again after April...some of my family still wants to go but who knows if that will actually happen. I think Lauren (DBFF) is wanting to go with me in September/October so who knows. It will all depend on where I'm working and living by that point!
