I know that most restaurants have options for food allergies, but am I asking too much? LOL I recently had to start a gluten free diet and I'm not really sure what to eat besides fruits and veggies. I'm also lactose intolerant although I do ok with small amounts of cheese and greek yoguart. I'm trying to add chicken back into my diet but I'm having a hard time with nausea after eating it.

I'm ok with some seafood, but if DW get's their seafood locally I'll have to pass due to concerns regarding the oil spill. I'm really not sure what my options will be at Disney. Can anyone share some meal ideas they've had while at DW?

I made reservations at the following restaurants before learning about the gluten intolerance issue...

Sci-Fi Dine-In
Boma
Turf Club Bar & Grill
Yak and Yeti
Raglan Road
Ohana
The Garden Grill

Thanks for any feedback you can offer!

Not to brush you off in any way, but on the DISabilities forum there is a sticky and loads of help on food allergies. I think you will get a lot more specific help posting on there as well and some good info to read to get you started. There is also a GF dining review thread that you might enjoy.

What I can say to you is that my DD is GF and we have found Disney to be exceptionally accommodating. It is also a good idea to contact Disney Special Diets with the specifics of your requirements so they can note it on your reservations. I see you are leaving quite soon so I don't know if it may help to call and ask to be put through to the Special Diets team. I would ring the CRO and ask. They should be able to transfer your call or give you the number.

I live on the gulf side of Florida in Panama City and our seafood is still safe to eat and if WDW gets theirs locally it would be from the east coast or Atlantic side and that is also safe to eat. You can get Gluten free Mickey waffles at just about any of the resturants serving breakfast. If you would like to email me at free2div@aol.com I can give you a direct email to special diets

My wife found out she had a gluten allergy a couple of years ago, and just a few months before our 15th anniversary trip to WDW. Every restaurant was accomodating, even though we hadn't specified any allegies when we made our dining reservations six months out. The only place she had an issue was ESPN Club, where she thinks her food was cross contaminated. When we went last year the restaurants were all still very accomodating, and the chefs came out to talk to her at every meal. At buffets they walked her through them and told her what was safe to eat, and at Boma the chef also made her a special dish. There were no issues then. She has found that the WDW managed restaurants are safer than the on-property non-WDW managed restaurants.

Not to harp on this point, but any company the size of Disney serving seafood is going to make sure it's safe and fished from safe waters before bringing it in. There's nothing to worry about there. If they felt it was unsafe, they wouldn't serve it in the first place.

In fact, other than the western panhandle and some closed offshore fishing waters (more as a precaution than anything) FL was pretty much unaffected by the spill at all (other than lost tourism as well :().
