Gluten Free Foods = $$$

I'm gluten free - but don't really buy any ready made products (except for rice Pasta and the Betty Crocker brownies.

Instead I just buy things that are naturally gluten free. For example:

  • Corn tortillas instead of flour
  • Regular potato chips
  • deli meat - rolls ups on corn tortillas instead of bread / wraps
  • regular white / brown rice
  • fresh / canned fruits and veggies
  • Chicken / ground beef

I don't buy any of the substitute breads - I really started eating less processed foods overall which has been great for my waistline as well!

*]Corn tortillas instead of flour

Corn tortillas are super cheap to make and soooo much better homemade. It's just corn flour (our Walmart sells Maseca brand corn flour for $2-something for five pounds). Just mix corn flour with water and a dash of salt (I omit the salt, actually), then roll them out and cook them for a minute or two on each side.

Great for taquitos, enchiladas, etc., too.

I've been known for yelling at DS for eating his sisters animal crackers! "Don't eat your sisters when you can eat the cheap stuff."

Well I have to ammend it a little - since there are just the two of us at home now and the Betty Crocker Chocolate Chip cookies are SO GOOD, I have had a few of those....and the Glutino pretzels are also very good!

Aside from that though I eat my own bread and pasta, etc.
