I am on a gluten-free diet (nothing made with Wheat, Barley, Rye and some Oats) which means no breads, gravies or sauces. I have stated this in my reservation. I am going on the 09/10/05 western cruise and was wondering how accomodating is Disney with special diets? :wave2:

My DH is on a fat-free diet, Doc's orders. I asked the same thing. I called DCL, and they put it on our resevation. So I know they will have food for him to eat.

My husband and I were not on special diets, but a woman at our table was on a salt-free diet. The servers were very accomadating to her. She mentioned it everytime she ordered and discussed what her options were. The head server also verfied that her choices would be salt free. He also served them himself rather than having them come out with the rest of the food. Overall, I was impressed with the individual attention she received for her special diet.

Thanks for the info. I hope everyhting goes well. :cool1:

I was on the Eastern Disney Magic in March. I am also on a gluten-free diet. The servers and chefs were extremely accomodating. Every night they brought gluten-free bread to the table. I was asked to select my choices from the menu and then they checked with the chef to ensure the selections were gluten-free. You should have no problem. Dessert is the only part of the meal that is tricky. ::MickeyMo

I would be interested to hear replies as well, as we have 2 families travelling with us in Dec. and each family has a child that has severe allergies to gluten(and one of them is also allergic to dairy). I know they have been working closely with their TA to make sure they have all the proper forms filled out and they have called DCL theirself on top of that.

If you go, try to take the galley tour. (It's on my list for this cruise!) From what I understand they have one chef/line that only takes care of special orders. The rest are like an assembly line.

Disney in general is very good about special diets. I've only traveled with diabetics, but that was handled sensitively and effficiently.

Since my cruise is in September, I'll let you know how it goes with myself and give you any tips that I can for your cruise. I hope your children affected are doing fine. The diet isn't easy for them or the family. Good Luck! :cheer2:

Thanks to everyone for the comments and help.

I have cruised on Disney 7 times and I am on the gluten free diet. No wheat, oats, barley you get the picture. Disney is wonderful. I have never been contaminated yet BUT make sure you tell your servers even though you indicate it on your reservation. Sometimes they don't get the message. Some servers are more knowledgeable than others. Our last serve team was the best--Boris has been on the Magic almost since her first cruise. He new exactly what I could and could not have. I always had the sauces left off. Sometimes they made me special dishes if none of the choices were even possible to convert to a gluten free item. What happens is that you will get to see the next days menu the night before and then you preorder. You will not go hungry and you will eat well. I eat better on the Magic than at home!

Enjoy your gluten free cruise! Kathy

Thanks Kathy! I feel better now. Hopefully my time will be as enjoyable as yours.

DH has celiac disease and Disney was wonderful. We forgot to fill out his medical form, but told our servers and head waiter. They were great. DH got gluten-free bread and spaghetti every day. They also had a standing order of gluten-free pancakes at Lumieres for him every morning. They said if we had filled out the medical form, they would have had gluten-free desserts and other stuff available for him. He wasn't contaminated and the experience sold him totally on Disney and cruising.

DH has celiac also, and WDW and DCL are the places he likes best to vacation, because they are so accommodating with the dietary restrictions. Last year on the Wonder, he had gluten/wheat free muffins, waffles, and pancakes. Every night he has his own breads and desserts, and the head waiter would stop by to make sure he had everything he needed. Our waiter would explain what he could order from the menu. We never filled out the medical form - our TA just informed DCL of the restrictions - we never even knew about the form. Probably a good idea to complete the form, tho, since you know about it. Enjoy!! :goodvibes
