Global Warming Vs. Decreasing Magnetic Field.

Both are worth of study and understanding. But only global warming shows any evidence that we MIGHT be contributing to the problem. And as the OP said, beyond global warming, there are many other reasons we need to work to lessen the negative impact we have on this planet with pollution. We made some steps in the right direction in the 80s and 90s under Reagan and Clinton. Unforuntately we have been stepping backwards with this administration and its corporate influencers and we need to reverse that course back in the right direction.

So has LA. Please don't forget the F-A-C-T that the USA still causes 25% of the global pollution. Only the Australians have a higher per capita rate of pollution than the USA.

That makes me breath a little easier knowing we aren't the worst in at least one thing. If you read around, we're the ones singlehandedly killing the earth.

No wonder my magnadoodle wasn't working this morning!

Mine kept spelling "Paul is dead". :confused3

The earth's magnetic field has reversed itself MANY times in the Eath's 4.6 GA history. But, since scientific humans haven't been around to document the actual reversal itself, the process by which the field actually reverses is somewhat speculation. Like another poster has said, based on previous periods of magnetic field reversals, we are long overdue for one.

As far as the Earth's core, from seismic data and density/gravity etc modelling, the inner core is solid and made up of Fe, Ni and other metals. The OUTER core is molten and that is what is circulating and probably creating the Earth's magnetic field.

Most planetary geologists believe that the reasons planets like Mars or even our own Moon are solid with no convecting core is due to their size. Earth is bigger and thus takes longer to cool.

Finally that Geology degree has done something useful!

Now everyone get your tin foil hats!

Don't you mean aluminum? It's not magnetic like tin and would protect better. I think.

That's a neat degree! Do you work in geology? I would think it would be a lot of fun to study volcanos particularly in Hawaii.

Kind of. I just finished up university so i'm breaking into the the industry. I work in oil & gas right now. I would ALSO love to study volcanos in Hawaii, or "Mountains" in Disney!

The magnetic field is something we can't do anything about. Global warming is a completely different issue we can do something about. Interesting stuff, but I'm not sure why you are linking the two.
So the question, I guess, is would you rather live on Venus or Mars? ;)

I was fascinated to learn that Europe is responsible for over 36% of the world’s sanctimony.
