Glendamax Report: "Oh why did I go SOLO"?

What is it with people getting sick while at Disney??? I think this is the 3rd TR I've read where the person writing had all the same symptoms! (I think I'll bring Airborne and Lysol with me when I go!) I really don't want to catch it too. ;)
Let me list the things I bought with me: Vitamin C, Crystal Light Immunity Defense drink mix, Airborne, hand sanitizer, Disinfectant for the room, and Scrubbing bubbles flushable wipes. AND! before I left, I was taking vitamin C, and a multi-vitamin. I have NO IDEA what more I couldve done. Maybe I did TOO much! Even my friend Fee who was with me the first 2 full days, said "What More Could You Have Done"!!!, after I got back and told her I was sick. Oh Well!

Glenda,

Just found your TR and I'm so glad that I did. Thanks for sharing your great adventure! I'm so sorry that you got sick at WDW.

I've considered a solo trip to WDW, but just can't bring myself to do it. Waiting patiently for the rest of your report.
Thanks so much for comming by. Book the trip! If you are nervous about it, then only book about 3 to 4 days.

Glenda,

I forgot to post this earlier but thanks for the shout out! I was mentioned in a trip report!  You made my day!:goodvibes :flower3:
Hey you're welcomed! I really enjoyed your report!

I loved the jewelry you found in Mexico!
Thank you! You have to visit Mexico early in your trip, and have them send the packages to your resort! They can even ship things to your house, for a fee starting at 10.00.

Hi Glenda! You got my name right :) I was looking for your trip report. It's been great to read! :thumbsup2 A little while after meeting you, we also went and got the school bread! OMG it was amazing. Went back and got more on Friday too! Glad you had such a good time. Gave me a little push to maybe finally take a solo trip when I can't convince anyone to go with me. I look forward to reading more! It was great to meet you!
Hey!!!! I was hoping that I would see you on here! So funny that I picked your table! Now you can be my witness: when I ate the fish and chips, I ordered water, and put Airborne in it right? That's what I did with my lunch on most days while I was there, and still got sick :(

:) I wonder which DISer Glenda took a nap with on the great movie ride at MGM....... ;)
I'll never tell :rolleyes1

Ok all caught up!

I agree that the Deluxe resort food courts seem a little sparse with their food selection. The ASMu food court was awesome compared to OKW and SSR, although SSR was a little better than OKW IMO. Anyhoo. Next time I'm food court hopping! Although Lessa's explanation makes sense.

I loved the room! Oh, now I wanna stay at AKL. :sad1: Someday....
I saw the hidden Mickey's on the carpet from the first pic! :woohoo:

:rotfl2: @ Fee's reaction to Soarin'. She reminded me of my cousin from my June trip!

:cool1: For the Illuminations reserved spot.

The Air on Mission Space: Lemme tell you, that comes in VERY handy during the Intense (Orange?) version. I think it actually saved me from throwing up. :scared:

I was kinda sad when your friend Fee had to leave. You guys were having so much fun. Do you think you got sick because of the rainstorm that day?

The Grand Fiesta ride, those things from the old one are still there, they just have Donald mixed in. :)

:woohoo: On scoring the Tink pin and meeting mystery man Larry. :flower3:

Sucks that you started getting . I hope you get better soon!!

Day 5 cont.
9/13

After leaving the UK, thinking that I'd been to all of the countries (sorry Canada, how could I forget my next door neighbor?!), I headed back over the bridge to the water shuttle. Now since I've never been over there before, I felt like Iwas tresspassing, and was looking around nervously for where to go. Then I happened to notice to my left, DISer "Susan was Here" and her friend! Whew! Apparently, they had spoken to me or waved and I didnt even see them! But believe me, I was glad to bump into them again. They told me where to go.

I hopped on the front row of the shuttle, ready for my first trip! The captain was a man, and he was training a woman. I was REALLY listening just in case I marry a RICH man, and can afford to do that as my full time job!

As the boat entered the area where the Swan and Dolphin, and Beach Resorts were, I wanted to yell and point, "OOOOOOOOHHHH LOOOOK"!! I was sooo excited! They look just like the pics. I'd never seen the Swan and Dolphin up close, and I didnt know that they were located by the Beach resorts.

The boat ride was very nice, and fortunantly, my stop was the last one........

MGM!

IMG_0941.jpg

It was time for my first offical DISmeet at the Tower of Terror (TOT)! I was to meet everyone at the ride at 3pm. I got to the park a bit early. As I mentioned before, it was my intention to go back to my room after EPCOT to shower and change into one of my green shirts, but it didnt make sense since MGM was so close to the World Showcase.

When I got to MGM, it was HOT! So I decided to ride something I said I would never do again - The Great Movie Ride.

IMG_0995.jpg
IMG_0998.jpg

I really needed to get out of the heat and kill some time, so I headed in. As I walked in the lobby, I was pleased and surprised to see that they still had the Narnia Coats on display!

IMG_1001.jpg

As I'm looking at the coats, I hear my name. I turned around and saw EpcotLove and her Fiance' (who's cute btw, but dont tell her I told you). We were so busy talking, they we ended up following a family with a wheelchair to the wrong line! :lmao: When we got to the line, her finace' said they're were 3 in the party. EpcotLove said that we were a family now. Awwww!

We chatted through the ride, and I showed her a hidden Mickey in the ride. It was nice riding with them, even though I didnt get my nap on the ride! :lmao: But really I couldnt if I wanted to. One of the speakers was right in front of us. ELove even tried to cover it with her hands. I just laughed. Hey, better to have a loud speaker, than to be in the HEAT!!!!

Afterwards, we parted ways, and I got my first Mickey Head ice cream of the trip! Then I walked through the stores while eating it, so I could be in the AC!

I got to the TOT around 2:45. I didnt see anyone by the sign, so I started to walk towards the cement benches outside of the ride's exit. That's when I spotted some DISers!!! My Lime Green Family! There were about 25 of us.

IMG_1603.jpg

IMG_1601_2.jpg
IMG_1598_2.jpg

IMG_1594.jpg
IMG_1590.jpg

Now let me answer the question I KNOW you all are asking. Were these people weird? Did you regret meeting up with them? What was it like?
Here's the truth: Yes, alot of these people are different from my friends that I hang out with, BUT we all have one HUGE thing in common, DISNEY! So none of them seemed weird to me, and I felt completely comfortable being with them. I didnt come home and tell my "real-life" friends, "Some of those people were crazy, I cant believe I've been chatting with them all this time". It was really, really nice, and fun. So if you have a chance to do a DISmeet, especially at a ride, or restaurant, do it.

Now here's the DISer responsible for starting this . . .

IMG_1591.jpg

She's standing and smiling on the left with the hat on. Antss!
On the right of her is "Abby's Dad", one of the first faces who greeted me!

We sat around and talked a bit, and tried to figure out who was who. I even got a chance to meet the famous CROC!

IMG_1597_3.jpg

And Abby's Dad passed out some Poop! It was candy! So cute! Thank you! (and yes, I'm still saving the candy)

IMG_1600_3.jpg

Then the time came for all the riders to get on. They were so excited, and I wish I could be excited to, but I was a designated "stuff-holder". I rode TOT in '98 before they changed it. Then, it did 3 major drops. The only reason I got on, was because I saw a couple getting off who were in their mid 60s. As they were exiting, they looked normal - not shaky nor regretful. So I thought maybe it wasn't that bad. My Mother held my stuff, and I got on. Needless to say, if I hadn't accepted Jesus as my savior, and the only way to God, I had by the end of that ride. I was SOOOOO GLAD when it was over!!!!!

So as they are about to get on (and I wondering how many will end up getting Saved as a result), Antss starts passing out green buttons she made to all the riders. How cute. Then she looks at me. Why, I dont know. OH! But then I remembered that she made some for the stuff holders too. Abby's Dad had one, and now so would I. It would be nice to have a chance to chat with him while everyone's gone.

Antss looks at me and hold out 2 buttons: riders and non riders, and asks me which one do I want. Then everyone actually started to get quiet, like on that old EF Hutton commercial: "When EF Hutton talks, everyone listens". So I give my apologies and say how I've been on before but can't. Then people start to try to convince me: "Oh come on, it's not that bad, it's really smooth, it's not as bad as a rollar coaster, if you can do Everest, you can do this".

Next thing, I know, I black out. On my way out, I can hear ANtss saying "Which button Glenda? Which button Glenda"? Where is Abby's Dad? Help me!!!!!!

:faint:

Day 5
9/13
TOT Meet cont.

When I came to, I was near the Hollywood Tower Hotel sign, and could hear everyone saying, "Ok everyone, follow GLENDA"!!!! I look down, and I have the wrong button on - the RIDERS' button.

Here's the short video I shot before getting in line.

Before I knew it, we're boarding the "elevator" (Oh Jesus Help Me!). They tell the Hotel's Bell Hop that we'll need the whole car. There are 21 seats, but we had 22 riders! Woo-Hoo! Maybe I'll - Oh no, someone else has volunteered their seat. Hey Wait - Isn't that the lady who talked me on this thing? That's what I get for talking to STRANGERS!

I head for the first row. EPCOTLove informs me that is a bad seat, and to head for the second row. Antss is to my left. ELove also informs me that there is a bar beside my seat that I can hold onto. I reach, and find it. It just may become a permanent part of my hand. Meanwhile, Antss is to my left smilling and giddy as if we are on our way to a sale at Kohl's.

Everyone (except me) are all excited and taking pics, and even has the bellhop take one of all of us in the car. I was on the right of the car. Here's a pic of the other side.

IMG_1606_2.jpg

And next is a pic of my side.
See if you recognize anyone, or can tell who really does not want to be there . . .

IMG_1605.jpg

This is what chatting online will get you!!!!!!

IMG_1605.jpg

And yes, it's posted twice ON PURPOSE!

The elevator starts to go up. There's some nice graphics, nothing scary happends, but I won't spoil it for anyone else who is crazy enough to get on it! When it is time for it to drop, there are about 3 people saying, "Ok Glenda, get ready, you alright, hold on". And they are using that same "nurse" voice that's used before she gives you an enema.

Then it comes. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My soul was left at the top of that ride. I think it dropped about 4 times. I did come to long enough to look out across the park when the doors openned at the top.

All during the ride, I'm holding Antss' arm with both of mine, and my head is buried in her shoulder.

Then it's over. I think. So I ask and ask.. . . yes, its over. Jesus is Lord once again!

We go to look at the photo. After all, why do it right?

IMG_1607.jpg

Can't see me can you? Hmmm . . . Let's take another look . . .

IMG_1636_3.jpg

Hmmmm . . . . I think I've been punked!

I need to take a break . . .
See you all later . . .

TOT Meet cont.

When everyone saw the pic, they suggested that we all ride again.

Say What?

But that idea was quickly squashed when someone said, "Beauty and the Beast is starting in 15mins"! So we all went our separate ways. Some were talking about hooking up again that night for the Mojito Meet at Pop.

As we were all milling around, I was so proud and happy at this moment. I'd done something I swore I would never do again, with the nicest bunch of people. Even though I did survive it, and it wasn't as bad as it used to be back in 98, I wouldnt do it again on my own. The ride wasnt fun, but doing it with everyone was. We were a group of all ages, from different States, countries, and even a few different races; and we were all one having fun at Disney. I wouldn't change a thing . . . well, maybe! :lmao:

Afterwards, a few of us went to see Beauty and the Beast. While walking over, Antss kept saying, "See Glenda, now you have a friend for life". How can you not smile at that! :goodvibes Antss even got me a copy of the picture to take home.

IMG_1633.jpg

I bought this frame for it at World of Disney, and I taped the Tinkerbell pin to the top of the frame, and the button Antss made on the bottom! It's now prominently displayed in my living room.

IMG_1632.jpg

Next, Thursday night!

EPCOT's Club Cool

I forgot to report that while in EPCOT, I finally got a chance to visit Club Cool!

IMG_1516_3.jpg

Once again, if it wasn't for the DIS, I would've never noticed it!

This is where you get to taste different flavored sodas from around the world. I'm so glad they were cold too!

IMG_1514_3.jpg

IMG_1515_3.jpg

Of course I tasted Italy's "Beverly". I knew that it was going to taste nasty, but I still wasn't prepared for the taste. It took me awhile to get myself together to taste another one!

The one I liked the best, was the orange flavored one that's supposed to have vitamins in it. It was really good.

Thanks again DISers for posting about this spot. Over the years, I must've walked past this place many times!

You little Dis magnet you! Sounds like there wasn't a whole lot of solo in this solo trip, so far. You've probably met more Disers than anyone in recorded Dis history! Congratulations on your Tower of Terror ride, and thanks for yet another great Gmax face picture for all to enjoy. You're such a great sport, which makes your report so much fun. I like ToT, but I would've been with the group headed for Beauty and the Beast, too, because I like that better.

Two weeks from today Jill, Brooklynn, and I will be waking up ready to hit Animal Kingdom after a wonderful late night at MNSSHP. We're hoping to meet a gang of Disers outside LTT at 3:45 before they do their MNSSHP night. Good stuff! And today is a payday Friday! More good stuff!!!

Have a good day...and get to bed at a decent hour!:)

I understand Lessa's explantion too, but it's still awful that a resort of that size, would have such crappy counter service. You can't even call it a food court.

I loved the room! Oh, now I wanna stay at AKL. :sad1: Someday....
I saw the hidden Mickey's on the carpet from the first pic! :woohoo:
The room is nicely decorated. And even the sheer curtains have characters from The Lion King in them!

The Air on Mission Space: Lemme tell you, that comes in VERY handy during the Intense (Orange?) version. I think it actually saved me from throwing up. :scared:
OH! So that's why I got brain freeze! They need to disable that function on the tame side!

I was kinda sad when your friend Fee had to leave. You guys were having so much fun. Do you think you got sick because of the rainstorm that day?
I was sad when she had to leave too. But I was glad that she did extend her stay to have a little bit of fun. The only park we didnt get to was MGM

I think what helped me get sick was not only the rain, but those FREEZING shuttle busses. I would be sweating and extremely hot, only to get on a cold bus ride for about 20mins.
This year I took some tank tops with me, but I didn't get a chance to wear them because of the busses.

Good Morning MeMom!

Glad you enjoyed my grimaces! Hope you do something daring too in 2 weeks!!!!

I can't believe you didn't let us see your Beverly face! I think you need a do-over so you can have someone standing by with a camera for that one. After we tasted it ourselves, we just stood around and watched other people for a few minutes. Beverly faces are Disney yearbook classics! Jill wouldn't taste it. She refused. You gotta convince her to do it this time and let me post her face!

YOU RODE ToT????????????? I made sure to look at the picture twice to ensure that it was you. I am so proud "sniff" "sniff"

WHAAAT? This is all I GIT? "I am so proud"? After you have been grilling me for A SOLID YEAR to ride this! Huh! :snooty: (stomps out and slams door)

Hey, you come back here young lady and drop the AT-A-TUDE. Here is a Mickey Bar :mickeybar and Larry :dancer: :rotfl: Happy now?

Great trip report, I felt like I had to read it after reading your other one last time .. we liked AKL but felt the food court was a bit "off" for a deluxe resort and sorta basic, but it was definitely a great resort.

IMG_1632.jpg

Next, Thursday night!

:lmao: :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

My son just ran in here to see why I'm laughing so hard. His response, "That's how grandma would look if we ever get her to ride TOT"

Good for you for riding.

Between reading your trip report and listening to Steve Harvey, I've been laughing all morning.

I can't stop laughing - your description of ToT is too funny! :lmao:

That said... I'm so PROUD of you Gmax!! You did it! :woohoo:

I can not believe you rode ToT!!!!

Mama is proud of you! This makes up for the Larry fiasco (plus he was a short, married gay man).

OK, going back to read the rest.:surfweb:

Way to go Glenda! :dance3: :woohoo: :yay: I'm so happy for you :) The pic is priceless :rotfl2: My little secret is haven't ever been on ToT and I don't know if I ever will :ssst:

The Dismeet looked like a great time. I love TOT it is my favorite ride. Glad you decided to go on it. Too bad your face was blocked by an arm. One of my biggest pet peeves is people raising arms on rides. I have yet to try Beverly but next I will.

We headed over to Space Mountain so SHE could ride. This was the first time I'd been inside the ride. I watched her climb in the car said:
Whoa!! You rode Expedition Everest and you're going to ride TOT:eek: , but you don't like Space Mountain:confused3 ? I can never get a decent picture on EE, but I love it, Space Mountain and Rock 'n Roll Rollercoaster I can deal with. The only ride I've never ridden at WDW is Tower of Terror. I'm afraid of heights and hate drops, but I want to ride it sooo bad.

Love your trip report so far and can't wait to meet you in Dec with Colette's and Daisy's groups.

It's funny how these things happen when the world goes black...

I've been on TOT before (in 2002) and I was on the on in DCA last year. I don't know how I made it. I felt sick for a while at MGM, but I felt fine (albeit a little shaky) after the one at DCA.

Congrats on doing it this time! The picture is priceless. I didn't go on it in May as my body recently has a tendency to not handle these rides very well. Strange though. I was able to do BTMRR and Rock n Roller Coaster no problem. I even did Storm Runner at Hershey Park a few weeks ago (imagine RnRC, but it shoots you straight out and then straight up before it drops you straight down) and I didn't have any problems with it.

Here's a pic of the hill at Hershey:

The "corkscrew" where you are hanging on the shoulder harness:
hershey2.jpg

And me with DB and his friend. We were on the third train out because they wanted the front row that morning:

Yet I can't handle ToT. Hmm...
