Glee--anyone else not enjoying this?

Loved it loved it loved it. It's not a Disney show, and not meant to be. There are plenty of those---This is meant to be something different, and I'm thrilled with this show. I hope others are too, and that Glee makes it and is around for a long time.
I'm not looking for another Disney show...heaven forbid. But, I am looking for some decent writing and characters. Some of these characters are just plain annoying. The wife??? Please. Most men I know would have walked by now...trying to decide between a sunny nook and the grand foyer??? Please. On one salary?? And her sister??? Talk about giving women a bad name....can you imagine someone insisting their dh get a second job so they don't have to give up their craft space???
And the cheerleading coach? Yes, she's funny. But in a really sad way. She is just too over the top to be believable. And that's irritating to me.
I'm not a prude, I don't have an issue with the content per se. But, I just don't think it adds to the story..it seems somehow gratuitous to me. But for some reason, society today thinks that 'adult behaviour' and subsequent situations make something 'cutting edge'. I tend to disagree.
Can anyone imagine a bunch of nerdy students (and those glee kids are stereotypical nerdy) actually taking it upon themselves to change a routine that drastically??? I'm not saying it has to be real life but come on...that was a huge stretch.
But then again, I didn't watch Melrose Place or 90210 either.

I love that show. My wife and I have watched the first two episodes and absolutely love it. Considering it is coming on at 9, I assume it is for people over the age of 16. I don't find any of the content on that show inappropriate for people over the age of 16.

It's not anywhere near as bad as that show "Secret Life of an American Teenager." That show is pure raunch. It's more sexual than Soap Operas or some HBO shows.

SHE IS SUPPOSED TO BE ANNOYING. Do you not get the fact that he will leave her for the woman he is working with at school? She has to be mean so that you, as a viewer, don't like her and want him to leave her for the girl at school.

She is hilarious. You have to know what kind of actor she is. Have you seen her previous roles: "Best in Show," etc.

Yes, I could. Those students aren't nerdy. They are artsy. Big difference. Nerdy students are usually book worms that don't do anything. Nerds wouldn't have had the motivation to sign up for Glee club in the first place. Just my opinion though.

But then again, I didn't watch Melrose Place or 90210 either.

I didn't either I hated those shows.

I think Glee is a great change of pace from your typical network show: reality show, crime drama, legal drama, or hospital show. Again, just my opinion.

... This is a 9pm show on Fox. :confused3
You summed it up completely with that one sentence.

People for some reason think that this show should be for kids simply because it's centered around a high school glee club. That's a mistake.

You are overthinking the show. It's camp.

I really liked it but was surprised as I thought it was supposed to be more of a family show. The next episode is rumoured to be excellent so I guess we should all hang in there!

There was a lot of wit and innuendos. Kind of reminded my of the Two and Half Men flavour. I will be curious to see how it all unfolds.

I loved last night's show! Like people have already said, it's supposed to be over the top and ridiculous! Did anyone catch the names on the pamphlets when Emma was talking to Rachel about her "bulimia"?? :rotfl2: Yes, a little off color-but hysterical.

And I loved the songs! I'm downloading them right now. "Take a Bow" was gorgeous!

Excellent!! Can't wait. My wife rewound the "Push it" rendition they did because we couldn't stop laughing. The main female actress is so funny and her personality is adorable.

And as for people who don't understand how this show is over the top ... the first time I saw the slushy get thrown in that girl's face, I realized it wasn't supposed to be accurately depicting high school. It's supposed to be a comedic exaggeration. And I think the writer does it very well.

I didn't see the premiere but I did catch last nights episode. I'm reserving judgement for the moment. It had it's moments, both good and bad. I found the lip syncing irritating, but the singing and dancing quite good. Is it actually the actors who are singing?

It IS the actors/actresses who are singing. The lip syncing in episode 2 was pretty bad. That would be my only beef with episode 2. Episode 1 had way better lip syncing.

I haven't watched the whole episode yet, but I did watch the "Push It" scene on youtube and I was laughing hysterically. I knew about the fake pregnancy from a preview.

Yeah, I could tell even from the pilot episode (with all of its little innuendos) that its target audience was for adults/older teens. Anyone expecting "High School Musical" type content was way off. I knew that from the beginning.
In my opinion, the "over-the-top" qualities of it are what make the show! But I guess that it's just one of those "Love It or Hate It" type things with no in between.
But I suppose I shouldn't respond in this thread, because I LOVE the show!!! It's my new favorite! I love the humor, and I think the characters are geniously written!!! :happytv:

I watched the pilot back in the spring and I was so not impressed. Too quirky for me. The singing is great though! That brunette girl has a fabulous voice.

I loved it and I think the content was great for the time and audience. Unfortunately I think that it will be one of those shows that the masses "don't get" and it will be canceled by Christmas.

plus tons of commercials every few minutes and found it somewhat awkward to watch with teenaged kids

I don't find any of the adult characters believable so it gets a big old "stupid show" from me.

It may have been awkward but it showed what many teens would be talking and thinking about in a funny way.

Yep. Totally agree. Some people just "don't get" certain shows. Perfect example was "Arrested Development." That is my favorite show of all time. Yet it was canceled after 3 seasons while other much worse shows were able to stay on their air. This will be a lot like that, even though this show is not anywhere in the same league as "Arrested Development."

I feel like I watched a different show than everyone else. I loved it as much as the pilot!

As usual Lora, we're on the same page. Loved it and think everyone else shouldn't take it so personally. Lighten up guys, it's a parody - not supposed to be real. Imagine Jane Lynch's character in your high school as the cheer coach, lol!!!

I had no problem with the "mature" (really?) content of the show. I just thought it was a big, fat, nothing.
Next week, I'll be back to watching Ghost Hunters...

I have not enjoyed the show as much as I had hoped I would but I will give it another week.
