We have wonderful neighbors now, but when I was growing up, we had someone worse than Gladys Kravitz.
She was an older woman named Regina (or Old Lady Regina as we called her!). She lived across the street from us, and felt it was her personal duty to spy on all the kids in the neighborhood and report back to their parents. One time my older sister and I locked ourselves out and my parents were on vacation. (We were about 18 & 19 at the time). We remembered that we had left an upstairs window open, so we borrowed a ladder, climbed through the window and unlocked the door. No big deal. However, Regina called the police on us and reported a break-in. She knew darn well that we lived there. Then she made sure my parents heard about it the minute they got home.
She also would time us in the driveway when we said goodnight to our dates. The next morning she would call my parents and tell them that "Jill was in the driveway with a young man for quite a while last night, is everything ok?".
There are many more Regina stories, but I'm getting mad all over again just thinking abut it!
