given up home phone, do you miss it?

We got rid of our home phone and I don't miss it at all. The only people I want to talk to have my cel phone #. But, I did find out that we had to get a call box in the house for our alarm system

We built our current home 8 1/2 years ago and have never had a land line connected. We have used our cell phones only for 10 years. I think it is easier. I don't miss a home phone and doubt we will ever have one again.

Got rid of ours a year and a half ago and don't miss it at all! Everyone we actually wanted to talk to had our cell numbers so the home phone was just another bill

It's been almost 4 years for us. All four of us have a cell phone, so it works for us. I don't think we will ever have a land line again.

We haven't missed having a home phone at all.

One thing I did though was to transfer our house number to my cell phone. That's been our number forever, and it's the number in the phone book (still there even though it's been my cell phone number for quite awhile). It's the number all of my older relatives know (we have several in the area that we kind of help with), and the number on all of my accounts.

Switching the number to my cell made it pretty easy actually.

I've never had a landline. It's great, no landline bill to pay and no phone calls in the middle of the night. Only 1 number to give out.

Also, side note and off topic, if you don't want to give up the landline number and you have a cell phone as well or a work line. Instead giving out 2 or 3 or more numbers, sign up for a free Google Voice number, link all numbers to that and just give out the Google Voice number. Then when someone calls that, it'll ring to both lines. You can even set up a schedule, so for example, you can turn them off after 10pm and back on at 8am, so you won't get calls at night. Or while at work, etc. You can even get voicemails sent to your email.

We unplugged ours for 45 days prior to getting it turned off. We were never tempted to plug it in again. Why not do a trial so you can keep the same number if you change your mind?

I have wanted to do this as we haven't used the phone in a long time, and keep the ringer off (too many robo calls!). But was worried about internet access? My husband hasn't been able to figure out if we need it for internet access. Any help? I would love to get rid of that pesky bill.

You can have internet without the land line. We still have land line, as we have a business and the cell phone drops many calls in the house. I would miss it very much.

We've had a home phone off and on for a few years now. We had one in NH because we got it free because DH worked for the cable company. We didn't use it often.

When we moved here we had it because we got the "triple play" package. To just get cable and Internet it was only $5 cheaper. We kept it because we used it to fax things pretty often.

Then we did a no cable trial run to see if we'd be okay with no cable so no phone and we didn't miss it. Then when DH started working for the cable company here we got it free again but again rarely used it except for faxes. Truthfully we kept the ringer off.

Now we've gone to Directv so no phone again. We just use our cell phones for everything. We don't miss it and definitely didn't miss all the political phone calls!

I still have my Ooma. It is $40 per year for taxes but no other costs. However, now it isn't even plugged in! I still get messages by logging in online but mostly it is solicitations for police funds or political stuff.

I did up my cell minutes to unlimited. I have a big mouth and talk about 3,000 min. per month! But i have Straight Talk so it isn't too expensive.

We are surprised that we don't miss a landline nor do we miss Directv! Even the kids don't miss TV which surprises me.

Between no home phone, no contract cell phones, and no Satellite TV, we are saving $2,400/year.

I took me forever to talk DH out of our land line. When I finally did......we love not having it. We all get our own calls on our cell phones, we don't get all the annoying teller, or political calls etc. Never worry about checking for messages when we get home because we ALWAYS have our phones with us. Only thing is to make sure that young children can use your cell phone well enough to make a 911 call, or call grandma in the event of an emergency, decide how to handle your security system (it certainly can be done but there was an initial investment and and slightly higher monitoring fee for us), and don't forget to change your primary number at places like the pharmacy or doctor's office. I know 50.00 a month is not a lot, but I like the idea of me having it rather that paying it for a service we never used.

I am not ready to give it up yet, so we moved to magic jack plus a couple of years ago and have been really happy with it.

The only time I miss it is when I'm home alone and I misplace my cell phone-- I don't have a way to call it anymore so I can find it !! Other than that, we've never looked back. One more thing to think about if you have kids (besides them being able to use your phone in an emergency) is that if you have a baby sitter come over, you need to make sure the babysitter either has her own cell phone or leave one with her (we usually leave DH's phone if the baby sitter doesn't have a cell phone). Most kids are getting cell phones by the age of 12 or 13 now, though, so it's not usually a problem. --Katie

We have not had a landline in 7 1/2 years. The only time I miss it is when i misplace my cell and want to call it but I usually just have Dh call it then

no home phone, only a cheapo tracfone with buy minutes, no tv service (dvd's)...wireless is my only bill, ~$30/month. i am a senior with no kids. but i do have a mini laptop attached at the hip about 12 hours a day.
