Thank you!!

Camping is fun... this is only our second year doing it. Last year we did two one night trips. This year we did one two night trip and one one night trip. Try it out close to home for the first time when the boys are ready.

Can't wait to book my airfare tomorrow!! :cool1:

Airfare update coming right up!!

I'm excited for the GF tea... a fun girly thing to do! Don't get to do those things very often. :rolleyes1 I'm sure you understand that!

Very exciting morning at my house!! I knew Southwest would be releasing tickets for our Feb/March family trip, but I had no idea they’d be released so early! It isn’t usually until 10am, but around 7:15 a DIS-friend (to be identified later;)) emailed me that the tickets were out already!! Ugghhhh!!! :scared1: This could be good because I might beat all the other people who are waiting to check until closer to 10am. Or this could be bad & maybe I’ve already missed the good deals!

Our plan was to fly into Tampa on Thursday, 2/24 (to visit Jeff on the west coast of FL first) and fly home from Orlando on Sunday, 3/6. I needed to book two separate flights… The really early flight home was $99, mid-day flight was $200! The late flight was $200. We could do connecting at $154 but that doesn’t work well for us. I called DH & in the time we talked, the mid-day flight went up to $234! No way that was going to happen for four people! I checked Monday – cheaper but cuts into another work week & school day. I checked Saturday – a little better –but cuts the vacation short! Ugghhh!! :headache:

So I decided to check Tampa. We flew home from Tampa last year and it wasn't so bad... I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw $79!!!

So our plan is to fly in and out of Tampa for $79 each way!! I’ve never seen anything like it on the day tickets are released! The prices don't usually go down to $79 until much closer to the date of the flights. And many flights, like school vacation weeks, never get down to $79!!

We’ll fly down on the first flight of the day (arriving in Tampa by 10:40am) and last direct flight home, arriving in NH at 7:15pm (which means another park day!!). I had set aside $1500 for airfare – not knowing how bad the fares would be during a school vacation week… and only spent… $717.60!!! Now I have almost $800 that I can spend somewhere else!!

Not only did I book those flights, but I continued on booking another little flight for myself in January. :rolleyes1 Hope to be able to share more about that later today. :cool1:

Great rates and another park day!!! $800 can be a lot of good stuff.... any thoughts off the top of your head?

Can't wait to hear more about the January flight!

First - thanks about the envelopes. I have a Cricut (that I don't use very often) and several Disney cartridges. I never would have thought to do them this way if I hadn't seen what Disney Crafter did with her Cricut.

My Mom bought me a Cricut for my b-day so I'll finally get it in a few weeks :woohoo: so I hope to get a Disney cartridge too...what fun I'll be having!!!!

Second - I grew up camping. We even did overnight hikes where you have to carry everything on your back! :scared1: I don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon!

nice....Bekah loved her overnight camping hike she did during camp this summer...yes don't think I'd do that

The kids start school two weeks from today. This week is a bit crazy, but once we leave on Saturday we'll have five days of much needed R&R. The boys have been in summer school and/or camp all summer so they need the break just as much as Tim & I do. When we get back it's right back into the craziness... We head down to Bostoon next Thursday to see the neurologist for their semi-annual visit. Then Friday involves haircuts, a dentist appointment and the first grade orientation picnic. :faint:

well enjoy your last two weeks :goodvibes

that is beyond awesome....:cool1: can't believe you were able to book all 4 of you for under $200 r/t....some sweet Disney dust was sprinkled on you this morning.... pixiedust:

looking forward to this secret trip ;) reveal

I love your mousekeeping envelopes. So cute!
Yay on getting such a great deal on flights!!! $79 each way is terrific.
Flying in and out of Tampa saves so much $$$. We did that last year and it worked out well.

So glad you are getting a Cricut!! You will love it!!

Yes - sweet Disney pixie dust for sure! I'm soooo happy I got the email that the tickets had been released!! I don't think I've ever gotten such a good deal or airfare!

Hope to share the secret today!!

Thanks Jennifer!!

We flew from Tampa last year too... Since I booked the late flight home & we have a rental car - it's no big deal to have to drive over to Tampa. And who can pass up an extra park day!! I think we're up from 6 park days to 8!!

We rented a car from Alamo in Tampa last year. Which rental company do you usually use? We got a fantastic deal for 8/21-8/30 with Alamo at MCO; full size car with a car seat for about $290. I'm wondering if the rental rates are cheaper in Tampa. I need to investigate.

We love using Alamo in Orlando, but in Tampa you have to take a shuttle, right? Not so much fun with our clan!

This past trip we rented from Thrifty - got a good rate for a minivan for 10 days but the vehicle was a mess. No problem turning it in though. So far for next year I've found Dollar to be best - Minivan for 10 1/2 days for $500 including taxes.

I'll keep hunting, but I like to get something booked as soon as I book the airfare.

I've found good deals through BJs & through the Orlando Magic Card (orlandoinfo.com).

Hey Amy!

I've been MIA from the boards for a few days, but I was so glad to see you'll be going to the GF for tea! I'm happy my post may have somewhat nudged you into booking an ADR. :goodvibes You'll love it!! I agree with the other posters on here, such a great thing to do on a girls trip!

Sweet deals on the flights! I'm scared of flying, but for those kinds of prices I'd be willing to suck it up and just dig my fingernails into the armrests. :rotfl:

We had to use a shuttle in Tampa. My brother and I went to pick up the car while everyone else got luggage. Then, we drove back to the terminal to pick them up. Not terrible at all. But it is so much easier when you can pick up a car right at the terminal.

I have to check Dollar. I have a BJs membership. I should check their website also.

Thanks for sharing your GF tea experience... it definitely swayed me toward going!

I'm OK flying with the kids, but a bit of a wreck when I fly without them... should be interesting this fall! :rolleyes1

:cheer2::cheer2: for booked airfare:cheer2::cheer2:

How quick was the shuttle? The website says you just walk to ground transortation and a shuttle comes by about every five minutes. Do you get to walk right to your car once you make it to Alamo? We loved being able to do that in Orlando. We always did the online check-in ahead of time and just walked to the car. I could handle the shuttle if whole process is easy. I actually made a second rental car reservation with Alamo... same price as the one I made with Dollar. The rental car area in the airport is a disaster - the shuttle might actually be easier! :confused3

$800 to spend somewhere else is wonderful!!! Just think of all the fun things you can do with that leftover money!!!

I'm sure I can come up with a few ideas on how to spend that $800!

The shuttle came quickly and we used the kiosk when we got to the rental office. It took less than 5 minutes at the kiosk (we did online check-in ahead of time also), my brother went to pick up the car seat, and I went to pick out the minivan. We were back at the terminal quickly to pick up the rest of the group.

We're renting from Alamo in Orlando on Saturday. I love just going to the kiosk and then straight to the car. Does Dollar have the same set up? I HATE going to the counter. I feel like I spend more time convincing the rental agents that my car insurance covers rentals and I don't NEED additional coverage :sad2: Plus, I'm just anxious to get to Disney!!

Good to know! I definitely like to avoid the counter... they really put the pressure on to buy their additional insurance!
