Tuesday 5th August
I had been keeping all the receipts just to see what we had spent, where we spent in and on what (I know sad isnt it) but the receipt from breakfast must have been a record $9.97 for the three of us. Admittedly we had reverted to eating more normally, toast, fruit and bagels- but even so this was a bargain
.
We arrive at Typhoon Lagoon at 8.30 and by 9.15 we have done the family raft ride (I got soaked) and the lazy creek. So I went back to the beach to read and watch the waves while the daredevils went for more adventure. I snoozed for a while under a shady green tree and dreamed of Captains Mai Tais maybe later ..
We decided to do EPCOT again for the rest of the day and then return to Hollywood studios for out final day (after check-in). We would only have about 5 hours as the car had to be back by 3.00 but this would be plenty.
So after a quick lunch we went back to the hotel for a wash and brush up before hitting EPCOT again. Once there we went straight to Club Cool for some free refreshment it was so funny watching peoples faces as they tried the different drinks and even funnier was the fact that I quite like Beverly I know, strange.
We managed to do Living with the Land and Figment before heading to the bakery in Norway. We followed this by Voices of Liberty, The American Adventure, Sounds of Summer concert The Supremes before going off to the Olive Garden for tea.
Back at the hotel we finished packing to the sweet taste of, yes you guessed
Cocktail count 3, another of the Captains finest if you please.
Noteworthies:
Car in parking lot read 110 degrees dropping to 98 once we were moving.
2 alarms were set for check-in day you never know.
Wednesday 6th August
Final packing at 6.15 and we are on the way to DTD for check-in at 7.40. Everything was very smooth, we paid out $10 a-piece, bags were weighed (one labelled heavy as if you couldnt tell by the bulging at the seams) 28kg, 18kg and 12kg. Coming out the luggage weighed 33kg so that was only an increase of 25kg whaaaat!
We got the boarding cards and we had the seats we had originally picked, so we are happy and head back to the hotel for breakfast. We all chose to have pancakes with strawberry sauce and once done said goodbye to the lovely hotel that had been home for the past 10 days and headed off to Hollywood Studios. We managed to catch the High School Musical show this time and rode the Great Movie Ride again. We had a light lunch in the café by Indiana Jones show and by the time we had spent a few more $ it was time to start heading for the airport.
We arrived at Avis to hand the car back and was presented with a final bill of $172 (£93) strange, we thought we had purchased a fully inclusive package. DH was dispatched to the desk to find out what was wrong and the helpful desk clerk provided a breakdown which unfortunately still showed an outstanding balance. The best advice they could offer was to see the AVIS Manager so we went to the main building and about 30 minutes later we got the thumbs up. Turned out there was confusion with the currency we paid at home in GBP but AVIS entered it as $ hence the difference. Anyway after much apologising we were on our way again.
We made out way towards the gate stopping to look at all the shops on the way, we passed through security setting off the alarm with my bracelet, our bags needing re-scanning because of the refillable mugs (not full obviously).
We brought a bottle of Captain Morgan at duty-free
(got a real taste for the Captain now) and then had Frappuccinos from Starbucks. We spent the last of our dollars on sweets before we plonked ourselves down ready for boarding.
We boarded slightly late as it had been an hour late arriving; now this is where it was all new to us never having been PE before. So we are called to board and go up the stairs to the bubble. We find bottled water on the table between our seats and lots more room than imagined. Before take-off we had Bucks-Fizz (DD had a big glass of juice). Take-off seemed much smoother and the banking was not quite so noticeable so PE for me from now on
.
Hot towels were brought round and then the meal service began. DH & I and Peppered Beef loin and DD had cheese tortellini of which we ate every scrap. Soon after we were offered Baileys or Brandy (Baileys for me please) and were asked to pull our blinds, duty free next and the cabin settled down for sleep. I tried to sleep, the leg rest was up, seat was back but I was still not comfortable the seat belt sign was on for most of the flight as it was so turbulent. DD & DH managed a few winks while I watched 3 films.
We landed at 7.00 and was bussed in from the remote stand. The luggage was already coming through by the time we reached the carousel and we walked straight through customs and out the other side to meet our car.
With hardly any traffic and no need for a stop we were home by 9.45. The sun was shining and it was lovely and warm 3 loads of washing later and we are still going strong.
