Just thought I'd pass this on. I signed up for it a couple of months ago and received an email update today. If you volunteer some time one day with a nonprofit, you (and your participating family members) can get a free one day admission to Disney World or Disneyland. We're going to volunteer as a family at our local food bank.

Also, if you are an annual pass holder, there are other freebies you can get instead. Sounds like a win-win situation for everyone!

My mom, niece, & I are signing up to make blankets for kids in foster homes. I think this is a great way for us all to make the 1st step in volunteering. I plan to continue this from now on. Thanks Disney for the inspiration!!!:littleangel:

Looks like we're going to write thank-you cards to soldiers for 2 hours. We also have to buy the cards but it's still a good deal, $16 for 2 tickets.

We are taking down Christmas lights at the Columbus zoo. I am not looking forward to the cold, but it was the only thing available for my 10 yr.old. to do.Good thing we love the zoo. I hope the weather warms up some before we have to do it.

How do you find this one?

When I searched by Zipcode only one opportunity came up within 50 miles of me and we are in a pretty populated area. That one sounds fine but it is only M-F during business hours. We all work FT and can't take a day off to do it since none of us get much vacation time. We really want to do something but have to do nights/weekends or from home!

We're also making blankets for preemies up to teens. I didn't even know the organization existed...."Linus's Blankets". What a great idea Disney had with this...I'm sure it will inspire many to donate their time.

I thought about this but working 3rd shift at real job kinda makes it hard to do it for full dayt plus I hate cold too.

How do you find this one?

We put in our zipcode and plenty of things came up. We live near Atlanta so there are plenty of things to do but I just looked again and a lot of slots are already taken. Word is getting out, I guess.

We're also doing blankets for project linus. The closest one to me was 87 miles away but we can make them at home and ship them to the coordinator and do it that way. :cool1: I registered last night and we've already gone back and fourth a few times. Plan to get 4 of them out to her next week and we'll have our certificate in plenty of time for our trip in early Feb. Going to use ours for the Fast Pass Exchange Cards, and with 4 of us volunteering we'll have 4 days of FP's. WOOT!

Thanks for the blanket idea. That would definitely work for us! I just signed up so hopefully we can do that one!

I have signed up to help out at a Blood Donation Center. I donate blood on a regular basis anyway.

I had to e-mail Community Services. I guess they will contact me and arrange what I can do.

Can't wait to find out what is available.

How do I get in touch with the Linus project? It isnt coming up under my choices.

We are doing this one, too. The person that emailed me back was very helpful and seemed really nice. I think my girls and I will make this a yearly (or more) thing now ~ it is a wonderful project! :thumbsup2

Only three opportunities listed within 45 miles of our home. Signed up for all three, today got an email, they said they were overwhelmed and have no openings....other two, no response and its day four......looks like this may not work out, shame:confused3

UPDATE: other two, No also..
But, I tried the "other opportunity section:" as someone mentioned here, and some different things popped up ...have my fingers crossed, and my toes too, LOL!

I believe the National Project Linus Headquarters is in Illinois. Maybe try zip code 61702 for your volunteer opportunity search, and then work through them?

It's too bad they didn't group some opportunities that could be completed anywhere and offered that as an option for those who don't have many choices in their area. ie: Project Linus, collecting toiletry items to send to the troops, etc., etc. Of course that can get expensive since you're purchasing items to donate as well as paying shipping costs, not just volunteering your time, but it still would have been nice to have that option available.

I still have gotten no response from any of the emails that I sent out. I hope that we hear something soon, one way or the other.

For Project Linus national inquiries on the search page I put in a random zipcode (used 02253) and got only Project Linus and listings for how to do it from Canada, US, USO etc. I sent my inquiry in to both my local one (well 87 miles away :rotfl: ) and the National one and BOTH responded back within an hour. I decided to work with the local one, but if you can't find any close try the search with the above zipcode and you should come up with the national chapter.

Good Luck!
