*Girly stuff warning* Need advice for getting a bra fitting

 I went to Nordstroms yesterday to get "the girls" a new home. All my old bras were from V.S. and were not supporting me enough - even to the point where they started hurting. I decided to follow Oprah's advice and went to Nordstrom where I was measured by an older woman named Tina with a HEAVY german accent. She was hysterical :rotfl2: . Took one look at me and told me to burn the V.S. bras - "they do nuting for you" (picture Cloris Leachman in High Anxiety and you know what I mean LOL) and proceeded to give me what she thought was best. OMG - she was sooooo dead on. The girls got a huge lift (MUCH cheaper then a **** lift), I look 10 pounds lighter, no more back fat, and they don't hurt anymore. The brand was Chantelle. Two of them were actually convertible bras (reg, x cross, strapless), and one was so lacy, sexy. So for $200 I look and feel so much better. From now it's Nordstroms for me.

I didn't go to JCP, but at Nordstroms, you ask a clerk, they take you too a book, you sign in and wait for someone to take you into the fitting room for your "session". I signed in and 5 minutes later was in the room.

Yep! First the measuring in the bra you have on, then let 'em loose for the cup size LOL! It wasn't as bad as you think. They even help you try them on (hook them up and adjust the straps).

Hi Herc, Ryan could you pass me the chips.

I just posted this on another thread, but I really love VS's Body by Victoria bra. But I will agree with everyone that they do not wear well. Definitely not for every day use.

I just got a Vanity Fair, also, that I really, really love. It is very supportive and comfortable.

I had my fitting at VS, and I found them to be very accurate, but now I'm curious and may go to Nordstrom to see what they have to say.

PS -- Hi, gentlemen! :wave2:

I am finding this thread so helpful. I've never had a bra fitting and never knew I needed to specifically ask for one. I've never felt like my bras were a perfect fit. I wore the same size forever though. My DD was born in 2004 and after that I lost all my pregnancy weight plus another 25 pounds.

However, for the longest time I was still wearing the same size bra. I'd been to the nicer department stores but never really got much help from the ladies working in there, but again, I never approached them about a bra fitting.

As others on this thread have said - don't go to Victoria's Secret. I'll tell you about my recent experience there. The stores are very high tech now with all of the sales associates wearing little headsets (what this is supposed to accomplish I have no idea). I picked out a couple of bras and a couple of different sizes in each. The young girl who worked there opened a dressing room for me, gave me her name and then left. When none of the bras fit right, I poked my head out of the dressing room hoping for some help. The girl who had been helping me was nowhere in sight so I asked another girl who worked there if she could get the girl who had been helping me and she said she could help me. Okay, I explained to her what was bothering me about the fit of the bras and sizes I had tried on. She just stared back at me with a blank look on her face. No advice, suggestions or even empty sales tactics for that matter. So I asked if she could get me another size to try in one of the bras. She brought me the new size and left. When that one didn't fit right, I opened the door to look for her again and now she had disappeared as well. At this point I got disgusted and left the store.

Sorry for the long vent on Victoria's Secret but I just couldn't believe that a store that sells mainly bras could be so useless in this situation. I think I will now try Macy's or Penney's and just go in and ask for a bra fitting. Thank you for posting this. I never thought to post the question myself but should have known that there would be some good answers here. :)

I wore the wrong size for years and my back and shoulders and neck always hurt. When I finally got measured I stopped wearing 40D and started wearing 38DD. I couldn't believe the difference! I got fitted at Lane Bryant and I love my new bra wardrobe. No more pain and the girls look better!

Who knew? :confused3

That's what happened to me - was a 38 D and they measured me a 36 DD. With the correct size I actually look not as busty as I did before. Go figure.

I've had poor luck at VS and at Macy's (used to be Lazarus here). Wonderful luck at Nordstroms. Apparently the old style of adding inches to your measured size to get your band size is not correct. VS had me in a 36D (funny, a size they do sell) and I measure at a 32DDD in Nordstroms. I am rather petite and the peope at Nordstroms had no clue why on earth they would put me in that size. My bras fit better, less back pain and the straps actually work right (not that you should use them for support, but they never fall now). I also feel like I look a little smaller than when wearing VS stuff.

I used to love VS, but their quality has really gone down hill over the last 10 years.

Wow, thanks everyone for all the great info! I really was set to go to Victoria's Secret, I just figured they must know bras really well since that's about all they sell but now I see that's not the best place to go. I can't wait to go get a bra fitting now!

Thanks again everyone! :cheer2:
