Just wanted to share with you all.:goodvibes

My DS 8 (Ryan) is a high functioning autistic child. He's very sweet and quiet and doesn't have any of the behavorial problems that many high functioning autistic children have (like ADHA, impulsive behaviors, outbursts, etc). Needless to say, he's pretty easy to be around, and his teachers think he's a joy to have in class. To give you a real good idea about what he's like, he's a lot like Forrest Gump (except Ryan has a pretty good sense of humor).

Well anyway, Ryan is in love with Carrie Underwood. HE LOVES HER! He says he wants to marry her when he grows up (well, her and Ariel, whom he also loves). DH and I found out that Carrie Underwood is coming to Spokane and performing at the Arena on May 24th, and we thought what a great surprise it would be for Ryan to be able to see her in concert in the flesh!!! It would be his very first concert too. Tickets went on sale this morning at 10:00am. Last year her concert sold out in less than 2 hours!

I had my finger poised on the mouse, ready to click EXACTLY at 10:00am to buy 3 tickets. So I clicked.....and.....we actually got floor seating, 13 rows back from the stage, right in the middle!!!:woohoo::yay: :woohoo: :yay: :woohoo:

Five minutes later, all that was available was the Upper Bowl level.....and 15 minutes after that, nada!!! There's not a seat to be had!

WOW - I feel so lucky to have gotten such great seats for us. I can't wait to see the look on Ryan's face. He's going to be so surprised!!!

Anyway, that's my story for this morning. :thumbsup2

Hey that's awesome. It sounds like he's going to have a wonderful time (as well as you and your dh). Are you going to tell him prior or let it be a surprise when you get there?

For those of you who like to do the exchanges, I just started a new one. It's a Sweet Treat exchange :goodvibes and is open to adults and kids.

If you're interested here's a link:

What a great story! Congrats on getting through--I like her too but didn't know she was THAT popular.

How fun for you and your family to share his first concert with him!

(Ok--will it date me if I say my first concert was at the Anaheim Convention Center with my parents and the performer was Donovan? It was a great concert . . . just couldn't figure out what the funny smells were (I was still in elementary school too. . . . but begged to go. Our seats weren't 13 rows back on the floor though--way to go!!!!) :thumbsup2

Beth: what does it mean to be an "elf"? :flower1:

Usually the exchanges run smoothly and everyone who signs up to participate sends out a pacakge and receives a package.

Occasionally we get people who sadly sign up and receive something but then never send theirs out. :sad2: Which means the person they were supposed to send to would be left empty handed.

Obviously that's not an option, so we ask people if they are willing to be an elf, which would mean in the event of someone not sending, you'd step up and volunteer to send out another package so everyone receives something.

If no one can be an elf, then it's up to the host of that exchange to send a package out. That happened recently on the flip flop one I did. I had one lady sign up for 2 packages, but then she never sent any out.
So I had to send two more out to make sure everyone received something.

It's optional, you can say no. You don't have to do it, but some people like to be elves. And usually they aren't even needed. I've hosted a few exchanges over the last two years or so and the flip flop one recently was the first time I ever had a non-sender.

Gee. That was a lot of babbling. I hope it made sense! :rotfl2:

We're going to keep it a surprise until we get there!:thumbsup2

You know, I just started to think how long it's been since I've been to a concert. It was when I was 19 years old, 1990, and I saw Joe Cocker and Stevie Ray Vaughn (about a month before he was killed in a helicopter crash :sad1: ). Great outdoor concert at the Gorge, but I think I was one of the youngest people there.....and one of the few who wasn't smokin' a little herbal something.:hippie:

So I'd say after 18 years, it was time I go to another concert.:rotfl:

That is great!! Way to go Mom!! :thumbsup2 He's going to be over the moon happy. :yay:

Speaking of concerts, I have a confession. The only concerts I've been to are Kenny Gee, Michael Bolton, and Barry Manilow. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2: And I was only like 18-20 when we went to those.

I still like Barry. :lovestruc Don't ask me why. One time I was listening to him and my mom said to me that she didn't know I liked him. I told her I always had. (hello mom?? pay attention!! LOL)

She said she'd never liked Barry but my real dad always had. I never knew this. They were never married and he left us when I was 3 so I never knew him, but I thought it was pretty cool that we both liked Barry's music.

A little connection between the two of us. Or so I like to think anyways. :goodvibes

Of course, I also love Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park, so what does that say? :rotfl2:

Thank you for trying to help me find a roomie. It does make sense that everyone has a roommate since you started planning last November. I'll just call my uncle and make sure it's ok if I sleep over that night.

I'm trying to get my friend to join us but she said she would feel awkward in such a big group but I told her that was nonsense and that it would be relaxed.

Beth: that is a connection--I think there's more to biology than any of us want to admit . . . . (although nurturing has a big effect too!) And who knows, your biological father may also have liked groups like Limp Bizkit and Linkin Park (whoever they are . . . . . :confused3 ) For me and my Dad--it was Ethel Merman. That woman would start singing and the waterworks would start for both of us . . . . my Mom would look at us like we were crazy. (Ok--you probably don't know who she is either!!!)

So, have you been to see Barry since you live in Vegas? I've heard his show at the Hilton is fab . . . . I have memories of sitting in my apartment in college listening to one of his albums over and over and over (my roommate was ready to kill me) Of course, I also at one point had a crush on him (until I realized he could never be mine . . . sigh) But what a talented guy . . . and he seems genuinely nice too--I haven't heard horror stories about him at least.

maybe we need to put together a "girls" trip to Vegas to come see you and see Barry? :woohoo:

Oh, and while we're confessing: my pop concert list:

the aforementioned Donovan
Bobby Sherman (twice)--one time at Disneyland!
Bruce Springsteen
Doug Kershaw (four times--had a huge crush--and for those that don't know he's a Cajun fiddle player)

oh, and I met a couple of the Cowsills once . . . . (namedropper!)

LOL I'm pretty sure my bio dad didn't like those groups since they weren't around then. Here's a link to one of Linkin Park's songs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sgycukafqQ

I don't think I can link to any of the Limp Bizkit ones from the DIS since it's supposed to be family friendly and all.... ;) :rotfl:

I think I'm going to have to Google some of these names you are mentioning. :rolleyes1  :rotfl2:

That's what's so great about Disney! It doesn't matter what age we are, what music we like, where we live, if we have kids or not, etc. because we can all agree on one thing we have in common.
And that's loving all things Disney!!!

Oh, but a Girls Only trip to Vegas sounds pretty darn good too!!! If anyone gets a hankering to do that just let me know and I am there! (Well, I'm here already, LOL)

Well hopefully someone still does need a roomie. Many of the girls going on the trip only check in on our thread sporadically, so we'll just keep your roommate quest on the forefront so no one misses it.:thumbsup2

Also, you tell your friend that we'd love to have her join us! Why would she feel awkward in a big group? Isn't the crowds at DL just one, big group of people anyway?:goodvibes It's not like we're going to go around the parks in a pack the entire time. We will have our together time (mainly meals), and we'll have our apart time too. Seriously, she should totally come and join in on some fun!:woohoo:

I have some sad news to report. I lost my job on Thursday. I spend the past couple of days figuring out it if would be possible to take this trip. Unless a miracle happens, its not looking like it :sad1: But keep your fingers crossed and hope that some pixie dust finds it way to me.

Funny, thing it that I am not really sad about the job. I only stayed because I really had a blast with my co-workers. But in the past couple of months, some people started doing underhanded things and I want to set a better example for my children. For my health, it was the best thing that could of happened.

I think now I just going to look for some part time work and enjoy being a mommy.

I lived a sheltered life. The only name I recognize on your list is Bruce Springsteen.:rotfl:

I wasn't allowed to even go to my first concert until I was 17. My parents finally allowed my boyfriend to take me to see Kenny G. WHOOP-DE-DOO! Talk about a partying, crazy crowd!!!

I've also seen:

Motely Crew
Heart
Stevie Ray Vaughn & Joe Cocker (which I've already mentioned).

I'm trying to convince her to come we'll just have to see how it goes.
