Just a quick post ... Beth, I so know how you feel about the weather, as I'm sure Callie does!! It SUCKS!!! But, right now, I'm not in AZ, I'm in northern Michigan (not UP, only LP; only the Michiganders will get that), and it's 9:45am and about 60 degrees, may get up to 80 by this afternoon! I even have the furnace on!!!! We'll be here for the week, then down to lower LP, for the next week. Then back to AZ on the 13th, I'm sure the heat will feel even hotter to me by then!!!

I actually can't believe that we have high-speed internet here, and our cell phones work!! That was not the case last time I was here, but then, that was a few years ago.

Hoping everyone has a good week, not sure how often I'll get the check the board this week. See ya!!!
Hi Stacie! I'm glad you are enjoying your trip so far and that your cells work and you have high speed internet. That's nice. Seems like things changes since you were there last huh?
I'm jealous that you are in cool weather! I'd even be happy to have my furnace on right about now. :rotfl: Enjoy the rest of your trip.

Beth, I hear ya on the heat. It finally hit me on Sunday -- my Summer depression is in full swing. I'm sure it's the same kind of seasonal depression that other people face in the winter-time. In May and June I was waking up at 5 am and going outside to water and garden so at least I felt like I was getting about an hour of nice temps (below 80 degrees -- coolness in the air). But on Sunday I slept in and stepped outside at 6 am and it was HOT! it was almost 90 degrees, so I went back inside and went back to bed. I wish I could just stay in bed until November!!! :sad1: I won't be feeling that coolness outside until at least October. My kids are used to it and we are fortunate to have a neighbor across the street who has opened her pool to us to use anytime we want. So we swim daily. I'm trying to concentrate on all the good things and blessings we have, but this summer funk is strong and really hard to shake off. Wow, that was long-winded!

Stacie - have fun in the UP or LP or wherever you are. Does UP mean upper peninsula and LP mean lower peninsula? Just a guess. I thought of you yesterday as you were traveling. Glad to hear you made it to the cool. Enjoy your time away. How's Christine feeling?

Ok, gotta get these kids to swim team and the dog to the groomer. Later taters!

Callie
Summer depression. I never heard of that, but you know what, it makes sense! And when I was in MI I definitely went through the winter blues. But it never occured to me you could have the same sort of thing in summer. But it's the same deal, you're stuck inside with day after day of hot weather over 100 and you can't do anything. So I guess it's the same difference.

That's great you can use the neighbors pool when you like. My kids did go to our neighbors yesterday to swim for a bit, but we don't know her that well, so I wouldn't feel comfortable letting them go over very often. Maybe once a week, if that. Still, it was a nice break.

We won't get cool here until around October either. At least that's how it was last year. Let's hope the summer passes quickly for us both! Or at least we find ways to stay entertained and cool!

Oh, and yes, UP is Upper Peninsula and LP is Lower Peninsula. :thumbsup2

Have a great day everyone! :)

A spare moment! Shouldn't you be packing? Are you ready for a HOT 4th of July at the lake?? Take some pics of how crowded it is, or isn't, whichever the case may be. I can't imagine. LOL

I'm still at work. :rotfl:

We are leaving when I get home from work tomorow so we should get in to Havasu around 10pm hopefully.

I checked the weather there and here's the run down:

Wed. 120
Thur. 118
Fri. 119
Sat. 114
Sun. 115
Mon. 117

I guess they shoot off fireworks over the lake so that should be neat. When we where there for memorial day people said that the 4th is when it's most crowded.:scared1:

Zoemakes5, besides visiting with the MDs, be sure to visit with some DCs (chiropractors).

From an Australian chiro website:

The condition is self-limiting and treatment is aimed at improving the patient’s posture and preventing a progressive thoracic kyphosis. The most important period for treatment and awareness is during the growth spurt in males. Prescription of exercises, muscular release techniques and gentle spinal manipulation are effective in the treatment of Scheuermann’s. Patients then do not normally suffer any more problems following skeletal maturity (~18 years) unless an exaggerated postural deformity has developed.

(note that in a different country there is no mention made of back brace)

Does he play videogames? Interesting Scottish chiropractic website:

"Video games are the worst thing because you sit cross-legged on the floor, hunched up, to play them," LeMarie said. "If you’re growing and your spine is bent over like that the vertebrae are scrunched together, which may be a cause of Scheuermann’s Disease, an inflammatory back condition that children get."

It's listed on this UK website as a chiropractically treatable condition.

And so on. :) (full disclosure: Yes I'm a chiro, no I'm not practicing anymore, and I became a DC b/c of some really great things that happened with my own bod when my mom dragged me into her chiro's office when I was about 15, so I believe strongly in getting the spine in alignment before doing just about anything medical, b/c so often you don't need the MD after that. :goodvibes )

Oh
My
God! :scared1:

Well dear, bring a light sweater in case it gets chilly at night.....NOT!!!!! :rotfl: Good grief. I hope you have a blast but honestly, I have to say, better you then me!! :lmao:

Don't do anything I wouldn't do!! :rolleyes1

Molly, I agree with everything you wrote. I am a firm believer in quality chiropractic care and it has helped me and my family too many times to count. It even helped my ds when he had colic as a baby.

 Hmmmmm, makes me wonder if a chiro could help my summer blues? :scratchin

No worries. Once you hit 115, anything higher than that just feels about the same. It's all TOO DARN HOT! :headache:

I would make sure I was IN the lake to watch fireworks though. I can't imagine sitting outside in 110 degrees watching fireworks (and yep, it will still be that hot at 9:30 pm)

The only way a chiro could help my summer blues is if they could make it a nice, breezy 75 degrees!! :rotfl:

(But I agree, they can help with many things.)

Add me to chiro-boosting party. I see my chiro/massage therapist (or try to) once a week--with fibromyalgia some weeks (especially in winter) it's the only way I move.

And Callie--I know it's miserable where you are, but to me there's nothing better than walking out of a cold, air-conditioned office and getting in a HOT car! (sick, I know--I also like He double hockey sticks in the Toad ride!)

Just wanted to pipe in and share our experience as a family with chiro's. DD had (still has, actually) severe scoliosis. It was diagnosed during a routine exam in junior high. After several trips to the orthopedic surgeon, she was fitted for and received a back brace to be worn 23 hours a day. It was horrifying. It added four inches to her girth, making a whole new wardrobe necessary. Imagine being 14 and suddenly you jump from a size 8 to a 12 and look like a freak. It was made of hard plastic and went from under her chest to the top of her thighs with the groin area cut out. I am sorry if you think I am being shallow, but young girls at this age are the absolute worst at belittling and ridiculing their peers over any ailment. Most friends alienated her and she went from one of the most popular girls to being mostly ignored and made fun of. As a parent, you insist she put her health first, but as a woman who was a teen herself once, you can empathize. So, what did she do? She stopped wearing it, of course.:sad2: I, to this day, am mad at her teacher for allowing her to remove it and store it all day while she was at school. But, it allowed her to return to her normal "status" with her friends. After 15 months, her spine steadied, not getting any worse (which is the best you can hope for with a brace, it does not correct). The doc was still suggesting surgery, we were against it. Anyway, a friend suggested chiropractic care. She found a wonderful provider in our neighborhood who charged us "by the year", yes it was expensive, but she went three times a week for three years. She never felt better! She loves it - DH is a regular, too, but not me. So, needless to say, we much preferred the outcome of chiro care to cumbersome braces, strong Rx pain relievers and possible surgery.

And one last piece to my long story...DD developed such a mature, caring sense of being for others after her nightmare of being treated so terrible by peers for simply being different. As an adult, she discriminates against no one and truly knows how it feels to have people be cruel to you based on something as superficial as wearing a back brace. She also learned how to find out who your true friends are and that branching out to those different than you is a good thing.

Sorry to kind of highjack - Michelle, I offer support and hugs:grouphug: to you during this time with your precious son. I know it is not easy. Keep us posted.

Linda, I've always thought your daughter was beautiful. (And I think she looks a lot like you after seeing the two of you together in the photopass pics!) But after hearing your story and what she went through, I see she is beautiful inside and out.

I know how cruel kids/teens can be. It's horrible and it seems to be getting worse these days with things like myspace and youtube. But I'm glad that her back was able to stay steady and that the chiro worked out so great for her.
I'm sure it was very hard for her, but at least she was able to take a good lesson from it about learning what's important and who your true friends are.

Yes, upper and lower peninsula. We had a good flight, just a little bumpy in a couple of places, but luckily it was non-stop from Phoenix to Detroit.

Christine is feeling much better (for those who don't know, she was diagnosed with mono a couple of weeks ago). It's kinda weird because she hasn't felt tired at all, other than not being able to sleep because her throat hurt so bad. She was very excited when her throat didn't have white crud on it anymore because the Dr. told her she was contagious until that was gone so she couldn't kiss her BF!! But I think she has/had a very mild case, luckily.

It's supposed to storm today so I don't think we'll get outside today, but it is SO comfortable!!! So much better than Phoenix HOT!! Hopefully tomorrow we'll get the boat out, some of the kids want to ski; not me anymore, I'm too old for that!!!

Thanks for the kind words, Beth. :goodvibes When I see stories of children with back problems it always touches me because I know how hard it can be.

Stacielee, I hope Christine feels better real soon.:cutie:

Anyway, we are headed to Carlsbad to spend three days at the beach this weekend. I am so happy we are escaping the heat - yeah! It is hovering right at 100 in my neck of the woods, I feel for you guys in AZ & NV with 115 and over.:sad1: Just DH & myself, poor DD has to work. We aren't doing too much (going to the Wild Animal Park one day), but it will be a nice relaxing time.

Glad to hear the flight went ok. I hate flying so darn much.

I'm sorry Christine got sick! But I am glad she's feeling better. Nothing worse then not feeling good while on vacation, so I'm glad that's not the case.

Sounds like you are having fun! I'm jealous!! LOL I don't know if I already said this or not, but take some pics. We wanna see all the fun you had. And the beautiful MI scenery!! :3dglasses

OK, now I'm jealous of you too!! LOL I love Carlsbad. I'm sorry your DD can't make the trip with you, but enjoy your alone time with the hubby. ;)
Let me know what you think of the Wild Animal Park. I haven't been there since I was in high school!! I'm curious what it's like now....

Have a great time!!

Ooooh, I love Carlsbad too! Where are you staying? We fell in love with the West Inn & Suites last October.

I also want to know about the Wild Animal Park! I've never been there. . . . and my Mom has been mentioning it--just didn't know how hard it would be to maneuver there with someone who walks with a walker? Do you get in trams and ride around? Would we need to take her ECV?

Everyone have a great day--I just got a huge problem dumped on my doorstep by one of my clients . . . . luckily not a problem I created . . . . LOL

Had to get us back to page one. I hope you all have had a nice week and enjoy the long weekend.

Well, since we are Starwood members with a bajillion points (well, maybe I exaggerate a bit), we are staying at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa. It is brand new, only been open four months and looks really nice on their website. I think it is about a mile from the beach, but up on a cliff, you can see the ocean in the backround from the resort in the pix they show. I love brand new places! I will report back on the WAP when we return, I am really looking forward to it, too! I just hope it isn't too hot there as it is inland about 15 miles in Escondido. We'll be sure to take lots of ice water. Have a good night everyone!:)
