10 days?? Dang, when you go on vacation you really go on vacation! :rotfl:

Good for you! Have a wonderful time!!

Heck, 10 days is nothing right Callie?

When I went to Europe, we stayed nearly a month. It's been 10 years and I REALLY want to go back it was so exciting and different.

I can't imagine being on vacation for a month. I think it would have been fun while I was younger, but now I'd be worried about stuff back at the house, the bills, etc. LOL I'm old. :rotfl:

10 days sounds just about right to me. :cloud9:

That's cool you were able to do that though! I hope one day you'll make it back. :wizard:

Heck when I win the lotto I'm taking the world cruise trip. Thats 3 months long. I can't wait!!

Oh thanks. Christian will start pump training on the 20th. It is a 2 day in hospital start so he will be admitted early Saturday and released on Sunday evening.

I'm surprised that your friends doctor didn't have her count carbs. That is what it is all about counting carbs and administering insulin to cover them.

I have heard of that camp but it is a little far for us. Christian went to The Painted Turtle camp and had a blast. He wants to do it again next year.

I really admire you for learning how to take care of your friend's daughter. It is really hard to find someone to leave a child with diabetes with. I haven't done it yet. My family lives in Vegas so if I am going to be gone longer than an hour Christian comes with me.

Do you guys do the walk in Bakersfield?
Hi Cheryl,

I just watched the video. How super sweet!

My best friend's DD has diabetes. Has had it since she was 5, and is now 16! I remember how hard it was for my friend at first. Her father was a diabetic, so she knew what the whole thing entailed, and it scared her so much. We live in Central California, and she was lucky enough to find a doctor who is really really involved in juvenille diabetes. Even started a camp just for these kids. Have you ever heard of Bear Skin Meadows? It is just wonderful, and Hannah her DD still loves to go. It makes her realixze she is not alone in the world. When Hannah was small, before she could give herself her own shots, I went to a clinic, so I could learn how to give insulin to her. I wanted my friend to be able to get away sometimes. What a responsibilitly! Yikes! Gave me a whole new perspective. Every year we go to a dinner put on by this doctor to raise money for children who don't have the funds to go to camp, or get insulin pumps. Speaking of pumps, Hannah has one, and boy has it made it easier for her. She never measures her food out. As a matter of fact, I don't think they ever did that. I don't think her doctor thought it was necessary. Just looked at packages and stuff like that. Anyways she eats something, and just bolises (sp) for it. Much easier. Have you ever thought of that? I'm sure you have!

Anyways, bless you and Christian and your whole family. :grouphug:

Well it wasn't just vacation,we went to France for my aunt's wedding and then we toured different countries. What might be really shocking for you guys was that it was during the school year. I was in 5th grade and my sister in 7th. I was just required to keep a journal of all that I saw and learned.

Oh good it worked.

In my video above all the medical supplies there is a row of martini glasses. Everyone keeps asking which shelf I reach for first.:rotfl:

I just watched Christian's video. What an amazing job you did telling the story. I think anyone that watches that can truly get a sense of what it is like for your son, and if that doesn't make them want to help find a cure, I don't know what will. Great job, MOM!

Thank you. And to think I wasn't going to do the video because I couldn't find the "right" song. You know we had 52 walkers at last years walk. I just want everyone to come out and walk and share the day with us. Of course it is a fundraiser but we just liked having everyone there. I hear that Nick Jonas is going to be there for a private meet and greet for some contest winners.

That's nice you didn't have a ton of work to make up. Not sure that would be the case these days. Adam and Noelle don't even want to stay as long as we are staying at DL in October because they miss so much and it takes so long to catch up once we return.

Sorry I mislead you. She counted the carbs, just didn't weigh everything. Her Doctor tried to make things as easy as possible for her DD. She's out of Valley Children's Hospital in Fresno. The children all love her.

And I've not heard of the walk in Bakersfield. We tend to be more involved in the Fresno area.

Oh ok. That makes sense. But that scale that is in the picture is wonderful. I just put the food on it, of course one item at a time, and type in what it is and the scale will display the nutrion information, including carbs, for that item. I love it.

A friend of mine lives by Fresno and said the closest JDRF Walk is in Bakersfield. Do you know of another one that may be closer for her?

You know it has been 11 years since she came down with it, and that kind of scale was probably not available then. Now she has dealt with it for so long, that she probably just know everything by heart. The only time Hannah has a problem lately, is when she is sick, or stays up too late, and sleeps in the morning. This happened to her for the first time last year, after spending the night with a friend. She didn't get up to test, and before you knew it, my friend and her DH were taking her to the hospital. She was low, low!!! So now they have to make sure someone wakes her up, and gets her tested, no matter how tired and crabby she might be. She is 16, and you know what that means.

And if Hannah knew that Nick Jonas was going to be at that walk, she'd be there in a New York minute.
